Hai guys I recently purchased a Turnigy MAX80W 7A Lithium Polymer Battery Charger..

But came with no adapter i dont know which adapter to purchase.. It has a +ve (red) -ve (black) wires with alegator pins to connect to a battery thats it.. what shall i do??

If you are not going to use more than 3S Li-Pos then a laptop supply of 15.5 V 5-6A is a practical, and not very expensive solution. Your charger possibly has a socket on the side for the power supply (most do). You could get the supply fitted with a plug that matches this for size and polarity.

It is mentioned at the bottom that the power supply isn't included... you should have checked it out previously...
and yes.. you will have to purchase a cherging harness along with the charger... i guess it contains only xt60 connecting wires... turnigy is beiing selfish by not supplying universal charging harnesses, ESPICIALLY FOR THE DEANS, along with the charger.

Sorry! Just checked the listing and one of the reviews clearly states that there is no charge socket. So you will have to make a male/female connection to the input wires. Female on the supply, male on the charger.

it has a xt60 at the output... the charger is like an aligator pin to connect to car battery..
no charger in hobbyking is providing such a connection

no, aligator plugs are provided with all. but they also provide leads to charge through futaba connector, jr connector and all sorts of plugs. in max80W, only an xt60 is provided, dats being selfish of hobbycity...

HK used to supply all their batteries with deans(clones) before, and due to licensing issue, they switched to XT60, If they have to use deans then they have to use original deans which will UP the charger price.

Better to up the price and give multiple connectors.

Or, at least, offer them as an optional extra.

yep... charging harness is available at hobbycity... very good quality... but if they can include a multiconnector charging harness in accucell 6, then they can include it in max80W also...

You can always solder a dean, or opt for the extra harness. For example, many people who are new to hobby opt for XT60 as they all get the batteries from Hk(me for example).

Haii guys... XT60 is there... My question is where shall i connect the charger to the ac socket???

The alligator pin cable came bundled can be used with any 12V car battery and can be used as a field charger. to use it in house, best is to use your computer SMPS (power supply) or purchase a IBM Laptop adapter/charger which will cost you around rs.500. please check the output voltage of charger and should not exceed 18V.

2. A suitable connector set to mate the charger with the supply.

I am confused. Is there a connection between Pushpa and Sreedhar? Both have posted the same message separately. One is from Kerala and the other from Karnataka?

Is it enough to use a 12v laptop charger???

You can use cpu [computer] power suply . Use black wire to -ve and yellow wire for +ve.I am useing this to my X-CHARGER B6.

Will work, just make sure you don't exceed the current rating of the adapter. Your 80W charger can draw about 7A max from the adapter. Most laptop adapters have a lower current rating.

yes most of the laptop chargers are 12~18v 4~5A.. so it wont be a problem rite???

Basically, you have have to aware of the total wattage, which can overwhelm the charger if you charger a high capacity battery. For example, if you are charging a 4000mAH 6s battery with a 50W/5A charger, you can only charge it at roughly 2A which 0.5C (instead of the usual 1C).

yeah it wont be a problem... you can  choose a power supply  which has 4-5A but has higher voltage... i suggest you to use a 85W or so power supply keeping in mind the power losses... 85W will come to around 78-80W after the losses...

Reading so much about maximum power ratings  w.r.t chargers makes me want to know the %age of electric flyers who would need high capacity chargers.

So, Anwar, how about a poll to find out the type of batteries guys are using? Could be divided into just a few categories to simplify things.

help.. when i asked a local shop, he told me that he can make a 12V 5A supply.. will this cause any problem to my charger???
