Following the legendary Keil Kraft Eezebilt plans for a Royal Air Force Crash Tender boat from the 1950's.. Plans exploded to 130%. Trying to build it completely out of Foam Board.

Completed model should be around 27" in length. Using foam board for the construction.

The last photo illustrates what my withdrawing room looks like now. I have to clean up this mess before I sleep tonight, or else, the missus won't be too happy in the morning.

All templates pasted on 2,3,4 mm foam and plywood.

All parts have been cut out today, except the hull skinning. A total of 92 parts have to be assembled. My right palm has swollen up. It was a Herculean task cutting the 4mm and 5mm (hull bulkheads) foam with a modelling knife. The Keel has to be made thicker and stronger.

yep..i can understand the pains in cutting the parts..but when it comes together, its definitely worth the efforts!

Its good to see a boat being constructed and I wish to build one someday. Well, looking forward for subsequent posts.

This is a Vosper boat and the hull shape is versatile. It can be utilised for making the famous Vosper Thornycroft torpedo boats. Construction started this morning.

Keel made from 4 mm ply. Planning on a twin brushed drive or a single BLM. Haven't decided as yet.

P.s. My 4000th. post! There is another milestone attached to this. This is the first time ever, that I have 3 boats under construction simultaneously. The Schnellboot, Mermaid and now this.

Had bought some Universal Joints from RCD in Sept 2012. I spent the last 5 hours fruitlessly searching for them. I have stashed them somewhere, very carefully, and now I can't find them.   Construction suffered, had hoped to achieve more today. This is where she is now.

Sir, thank you. However, due to the less than lukewarm response to this thread (and other builds), I've decided to stop documenting the build process - just not worth my time, I'd rather post my detailed build logs on overseas forums where the elicit much better responses and cerebral interactions. I see a lot of so called 'boat lovers' logging in to the forum, and I notice their total lack of interest in following / commenting on any of the builds here.  

The next entry on this thread shall be that of the boat maiden video. Whenever that is.

700+ views of these two boat thread and 3000 odd for Schnellboot is not lukewarm response, people are seeing it (may be with awe) they are not contributing (me inclusive) coz we don't have much to contribute, atleast me, i am not a boat guy, i sail, kayak, boat all on the action front, what goes into it? no bloody clue, and i am sure it is the similar case with others too, you need to keep on posting your progress for simple reason that any wannabe (like me) can take clues and build from there. i agree modelboatmayhem.com is more engaging, it is model boat forum for god sakes !. My point is, post or no post is upto you, if you do? wannabe boaters will benefit, boat modelling (Nos of which is so few in India) will improve. Remember, a lot of wannabes look upto you.

to put on record your every build log, specially the ones on MTBs are being closely followed by me and I am sure like me there are many others.
As a matter of fact your PT 109 inspired me to try my hand at scratch building my 1/50 scale Thornycroft MTB and ofcourse my current project the 1/50 scale IJN MTBD.
Post this build I plan to do a PT109 & perhaps later a S-boot, both in 1/50 scale, and surely always using your build logs as yard sticks.

I   to good advice. Sorry if I was being a jerk, however, it does get a little frustrating   around here. Is that why the other,  more accomplished, boat modellers don't post much any more?

Cabin fit tested. Bottom skin support bulkheads installed. Tomorrow, I plan to install the stuffing tube and the skins.

Nilanjan, I am following the IJN keenly and I think that it is going to be a beauty. Would love to see your other builds taking shape.. I am interested in these plans - do you have anything on these lines to spare?

Why do boat builders "lay the keel?"

Got these lovely Universal Joint / Stuffing tube / Props sets from Alok (alokhovercraft) some time back. I am going to use these for both this boat and the Mermaid.

All modellers aspiring to build this boat from the plans supplied - BEWARE!

As cautioned by the creator / replicater of these plans, this plan is not a tried and tested article and needs a LOT of modifications to ensure perfect fits. This is not a plan or a model for a beginner. Certainly not an 'Eezebilt' model.

Please pay special attention to the 'Error' pages.

Status as on date.

The Hull Skinning is going to be in two composite layers on this model. Can't use available plywood as the flexibility of the ply while covering the bow will be an issue and the contours may not be accurate. I need something more forgiving yet strong.. I have tried steaming the ply, however, I am still not confident of the final result. Therefore, the first layer is going to be out of 2mm expanded foam (Sunfoam). On top of that will be 1mm maroon plastic sheeting. I had used the same sheeting on the Antares / Naughty Cal with GREAT results. That was a much smaller model with many more bulkheads, thus rigidity wasn't a problem. I may need to add additional bulkheads here though the sunfoam will help the moulding.

Hull skinning completed. I never thought that it would be so easy to work with foam board on the hull skinning. The Bow (front/nose) section with all its complex curves has worked out beyond my expectations.
