20 Lakhs per unit???!!!  :o :o :o :o :o

Now I realise by how much I undersold the 3 RC Hovercrafts to a similar Organisation. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

probably the  cost shothigh due the GPS and automation to reach the destination etc.....

"The operator simply selects the locations from a graphical interface showing the map of the area and specifies the heights with command either to hover or traverse through them."

"It has a wireless video transmitter and high resolution CCD camera with pan/tilt and zoom that sends images back to the operator"

"The built-in intelligence in the controller allows for fail-safe operations wherein in case of either a communication failure with base station or low battery, the UAV returns to take-off position automatically."

if this is not true and have to be controlled by a Tx then it is 10X expensive.... ( behold another 2G, bofors,  CWG )

As far as I know, it is produced by a start-up (under IIT Mumbai incubation program) called Ideaforge. The team comprises of Ashish Bhatt (all those who have been to IIT Mumbai sp4mm3r..must have heard about him) who is talented guy.

Here is the link for the UAV.

A quad with all the above features (including RTH - "return to home") can be had for less than $1000, at least at the amateur level.

They seem to be bundling a rugged laptop with touch screen with it, and that would some more dough.

I agree 20 lakhs is too steep a price for this.

Better than possibly spending a lot more on imported stuff :)

Check this out. He doesn't say that it costs $ 40,000.

VC, don't waste your time finding references...  pretty much all the functionality is right below, and anyone can build one for less than $1000 with a camera (but no laptop etc).

:Rs: 20 lakh is a fare price in the market today for UAV! i know ideforge guys personally ! tough book itself costs around 2 lakh including customs and everything ! any one thought of autopilot ? payloads(camera)? type of battery?
I think rest of the price they are quoting for IP!
To increase thrust you need more  money! But to reduce weight you  need nothing!

Not sure about thermal camera etc, but everything including a decent camera (minus the ToughBook) can be built (amateur grade) for around $1000.  Remember, I just posted the link above to "autopilot" software (and hardware).

But I am sure there is price of IP (additional software/hardware tweaks they have done), price of support, extensive testing, replacement warranties, going military grade on certain components (like GPS), a HEALTHY margin etc.

Forget it Dada. No point justifying/arguing here...

The price for a Toughbook in August 2011 was around Rs.72,000/- only, now it must be even cheaper.

http://www.priceofindia.in/laptop/panasonic-toughbook-53/2651/

I've been through this and done that and learnt one valuable lesson. Individual Cameras and tracking mechanism et al were supplied to the Organisation in FULL functional order.

"Grease palms and get the job done." If HE ( the Officer in Charge) ain't happy, he will make sure that you ain't happy. Mustafa Sir (Greatguns) and I learnt that the hard way.

20 Lakhs my @$$! :banghead: Ashta Sir must be laughing his head off! He is the Champion of Quads and knows this subject more than any of us.

Anyway, full marks to whoever supplied these. Well done Guys - If someone has an over running faucet, fill up your own bucket lads.

ignorance is bliss, here the ignorance of authority. This company is there for some time along with there uav. they started with human powered mobile charger. What they offering looks pretty clean but 15-20 L is too steep. I am not sure if it will be any near to military grade material anyhow i cannot judge Ashish Bhatt's work. I use to follow his work in college days and big fan of his micromouse.
I can only say one has to be in correct place at correct time with correct people in front of correct person and thats the opportunity to bank in.

KALYANPRODHAN

It may be related with Grade of equipments used.

AFAIK, a simple commercial grade transistor (548B) costs Rs0.48/- when you purchase 1000/- pack.
But If you purchase the same transistor for Life Saving Grade, it costs more than 100/- as they all are tested each item, one by one for every parameters. The costs mostly goes to testing and sorting off.
All computers and systems works in Real time mode (that is it must do the job withen 50% of allotd time and resources).

This is what the responsible personnel have to decide the cost vs effectiveness and which one is suitable for our country. Some 4-5k helicopter vs, 18-20k heli may be compared but the decision may changes when some other reason reasons comes behind like If this fails, thousands Crores may goes into water. In that case, to save them, someone may consider Quantity and other quality. Both are options but best judged by the user.

And a question,
Various Chinese brand mobiles are competing iphone, blackberry and are very cheap but still not purchased by you rather than Some Reputed Brand.

However, I conclude with Expensive things are not better always. As in Kolkata, a surgeon operate my sister by Laparoscopic (Lap-Coli) as (1) he is the expensive and (2) have Record no of operation per day, but my sister still have pain in that zone unlike others after 2year. Lately I realize, to operate that much patient in one day and with 6 OT, disinfection is not possible in that time and was not done after each operation. This strictly violates basic concepts, but most persons rely him as he operate maximum & most expensive.
We have to unite and to prove ourself to make indigenous products as well as marketing / Canvasing them. I'm sure we must achieve success if we try unitedly.

Dear frineds,

We are in a country with corrupt bureaucrats & more corrupt politicians that is why Anna Hazare has to fast for Jan Lokpal.

I would like to share a  piece of information here. One of my LHS was dealing with forces supplying most basic trainer aircraft. The complete unit that he sold to hobbyists cost Rs. 16,000/ per unit was invoiced to forces @ Rs. 36,000/ & in return he received only Rs. 12,000/ Can you imagine the level of corruption in our country?

This is just a simple example & even if you are innovator of ultra modern technology, you are no bar, you have to pay them. This is reality.

Just my thoughts.
