Found this one lying in a corner at the club.

I guess it can be yet another source of inspiration for people like Ashta  ;)

Not sure how exactly this is supposed to work, and whether it was scratch built.  It seems to use elevon mixing for aileron and elevator, and a really oversized rudders one above and one below the fuse line.

I can only imagine the type of unusual maneuvers that can be done using such a setup.

Seen the real one in a museum long back. Search for "Convair XFY". Here is the wiki link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_XFY

Yep, looks like the GreatPlanes/Electrifly VFO.

Like I suspected, there are a lot of unique maneuvers that can be done with this.  Gotta get one.

Was wondering if elevon is enabled across both sets of control sufaces (at 90degrees to one another) ?

Answered here.

So they have a elevon + normal rudder mode, and then a elevon + dual aileron/rudder mode (toggled by a switch).  Watch around 1:35 in the above video.

Instruction manual : http://manuals.hobbico.com/gpm/gpma1135-manual.pdf

Since it is a nice heli/plane hybrid, could not resist the temptation.  With Towers discount offer, it was irresistable, so ordered couple of them (they are in backorder though!) ;)

You are Damn lucky anwar bhai to live in Tax heaven of the Earth! I don't know how many here would dare to order ARF/RTF in India! And hardly any LHS offers the range of ARF/RTF offered by just any tom-dick-and-harry HS in west.  Wish the volume grow in the next 10 years. Till then one has to scratch build such plane.

But thats the core of aeromodelling - build vs. buy. The more you build the better your planes are.

On another note its interesting that what failed in real life now lives on as a model!!

anwar

Actually the right thing was to scratch build.  But we are having trouble finding the right type of depron/EPP here.  What we find usually in stores is the art material type, and does not last much.

Can our experts post here on how this model would be able to fly, vertical take off and landing isn't difficult to imagine. But how can level flight be established and vice versa.

If you look at the shape of the aircraft in http://www.rcindia.org/electric-planes/a-strange-rudder-plane/?action=dlattach;attach=225269 , you can see that except for a rudder hanging below, it looks quite like a normal airplane.  As long as you apply enough elevator from the hover position to place it in a horizontal plane, it works just like an ordinary plane.  This is demonstrated in the "setup" Youtube video also.

Yes, there are 4 micro servos, one for each control surface.
