Greetings everyone!   here i am with my second sweepstakes build - FT Simple Soarer from flitetest.com .... since i am doing two sweepstakes projects simultaneously and was out of station for few days so, i'm a little late in posting.. so enjoy my build..

started the build on 2nd July 2015. i have used 5mm depron for this build with fiber tape for strength.. and using a power pod with turnigy 2730 (rewinded with 13turns of 26 wire) motor, 20a esc , 1500mah battery and 9g servos....

downloaded the plans from flitetest.com..

started with the wings..

joined the wings and applied clear tape to bend them without tearing ...

glued the spar and created the 45 degree bevel and creases where the depron will bend....

glued the wings together forming the airfoil shape.....

formed the poly dihedral wing shape...

#2
continuing the build on 4th July 2015...

the fuse part.....

cutting out the parts.....

joined the bottom part of the fuse....

since i was having limited servos, so made some removable servo mounts so that i can remove my servos easily ans use them on other projects.....
traced out the shape of the servos and made these parts with thick cardboard and depron..

glued them together..

glued them to the fuse...

since one servo will be mounted inverted , so made this hole....

used 1mm carbon rod as push rods and attached a z bend at the end.....

attached them to the servos and attached the servos to the servo mounts using screws.....

i noticed some gape between the two servos which bending the whole frame while the servo moves so filled the gape with some depron pieces...

and also attached the barbecue sticks for the rubber band

some of you might doubt that the barbecue sticks are right above the servo mount then how can it be removable, yes its a tight fight but its removable with  some effort...

after testing the servos , i glued the top part of the fuse and the tail assembly....

attached the push rods and glued a stick to protect the tail on landings....

applied some fiber tape to the front upper part for protection and glued the barbecue sticks on the front to attach the power pod and for the rubber band....

made some gapes on the fuse, you will see why on the below build..

completed the fuse...

the most interesting part of the whole build was to make the ailerons and i decided to make the bell crank (correct me if i'm wrong) mechanism.. never tried it before but had no choice as i was left with only one servo and the ailerons are far apart.. so accepted the challenge and gathered some scrape parts....
so here we go....

measured out the ailerons on both sides...

cutting out the ailerons...

45 degree bevel...

used cleared tape as hing...

measured where the crank mechanism would line up on both sides....

attached the servo...

#6
crank build....

used servo arms (removed two from four which resulted in a good 90 degree angle crank), a small washer, a part from a ball joint linkage (i don't know what its called) and a hex nut to hold them together....

this is the way all goes together...

two for both sides..

made holes for the crank to be glued on..

crank glued in place...

using barbecue sticks for the push rods and attached it to the servo arm...

attached all linkages...

attached the wings to the fuse... and this is why i made that gape... for the push rod to come out...

so guys here's the final flight video of my ft simple soarer:-

totally love this plane.. it glides pretty awesome and the single aileron servo bell crank mechanism seems to be on weaker side but does its job pretty well...  :hatsoff:

futher if u know substitute of fibre glass tape also let me know

furhter more how much 5 mm high density foam  sheets are required to complete entire plane

kamal sir you can get fiber tape from here- http://hobbysea.com/products.php?729&cPath=5&sid=e079bb850f06f7e89b03637851a1effe
or search some other hobby shops you will get it. i got mine from ebay 1 year back i think.  and for local source you can try searching it in sports accessories shops in your town, its used in cricket bats ( take the roll)...  sir it took me one and half 5mm sheets of depron (its not hd foam) to complete this glider.

That is a proper Depron my friend. People have been using foam board and calling it Depron. I just hope it is freely available in all cities.  Please can you ask your friend what is it called in Bangalore. And where did he actually buy it from.

Thanks

jayantpradhan
