While attending the demo at the club on the occasion of Qatar National Day, there were two other airplane flyers who were doing demos.  These are people I know, and I have always seen them fly big planes, doing good amount of 3D.  But since this was flying in a small parking lot, they came to fly with their small electric planes (balsa, not foam), and I was surprised to see that both came with planes from Precision Aerobatics. Never knew that this brand had such a loyal following here.

The quality and performance of these planes were amazing.  If anybody is in the market for high quality 3D ARFs, they should take a look at http://www.precisionaerobatics.com.  Of course, as a case of you get what you pay for, they are somewhat expensive !

The models I saw in flight were the Katana MD (http://www.precisionaerobatics.com/product_details.php?pid=54) and the Extra 260 (http://www.precisionaerobatics.com/product_details.php?pid=52).

Yes... expensive ! But not the sure about comparing with a *properly built 50cc gasser*.

Typical airframes for these type of balsa ARF planes are in the $80 to $110 range (US market prices, for example : http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/greatplanes/gpma1542.html).  These are about $90 higher, some of it can be attributed to their larger size.

BTW, those guys were saying that these come close to the 50cc gassers that they fly ( in terms of flying characteristics).  No wonder they are willing to shell out the dough !

Great pattern planes (even though not the long fuse type), and great for 3D too.  In the right hands, they are very graceful to watch.
