Is it OK for others to point out alternate prices for classifieds items

No... period.
Yes, if it is grossly overpriced.
Yes, if it is cheaper elsewhere.

Dear all -

Please note the following points about buying and selling items here.  These guidelines/rules should help make transactions easy for everyone.

1.  Always post a detailed description of the item, including links to the product page from the manufacturer (if any).

2.  It is a MUST that you post at least one very recent photo of the item in your hand, so that people may see the actual condition of the item.  This is applicable even if the item is brand new, there could have been issues in shipping/handling of the item when it was procured. It is obvious that this is in the best interests of the seller, as much as it is useful to any buyers. The exception is for hobby stores, who may post links to pictures of items on their web stores or upload generic marketing material.

3.  If you are a seller, always POST an asking price. Only you know what you are looking for (or what you will settle for), why make people guess what is in your mind ? NOTE THAT ADS WITHOUT AN ASKING PRICE WILL BE DELETED. Note that this is the price the item will be sold at, and no bidding / auction is allowed. The item should be sold to the first person who accepts to buy the item at the said price. The only exception is for ESTABLISHED LHSes with a proper website, who may only link to the item on their website, and the price should be clearly mentioned there.

4.  Use the Trader Rating system in the profile section, so that you may leave feedback.  This should be done by both the seller and the buyer, so that people can understand the history and trustworthiness of each seller/buyer.  This would also be a good means preventing any type of fraud.

5.  Hobby store owners may also use this board, but it would be best to introduce products properly in the respective "model" board.

6. After a transaction is over, please lock the thread.  People need to know which offers are still active.

7. Please over communicate the condition of the item for sale.  We would expect the seller to clarify the condition of the item (including any short-comings, missing parts, crash history and crash impacts) in the "For Sale" post itself, without waiting for the buyer to specifically ask for details.  This is in the true spirit of the hobby.  Guess it goes with the old saying "do not wish for others, something that you do not wish for yourself" !

8.  Note that any transaction using the forum is ultimately between two individuals, and the RC India forum or its members have no responsibility over such transactions.  The seller is urged to describe the article and the condition of the article in as much details as possible, with pictures and videos if possible.  The buyer is urged to confirm the condition of the item, and any questions and clarifications should be made directly with the seller prior to purchase.  Finally use the trader rating system to leave feedback, so that a history be built for each buyer/seller.

9.  One of RC India's goals is to prevent its members (especially beginners) from overpaying for RC items.  Towards this goal, it is deemed OK that if the SAME item (as the one put on sale) is available LOCALLY for a better price, then it is OK for others members to POLITELY point it out to the seller in private or in public, and request him to adjust his pricing.  It is NOT OK for members to mock the asking price of items on sale. Any comment on pricing should be with adequate reference to sources that demonstrate better LOCAL pricing on the same item. This is true for both new-in-box items, and used items.  If a seller cannot entertain others pointing out CURRENT LOCAL market prices on the same item in his sales thread, please do NOT post the item for sale on RC India.  At the same time, other members (buyers or not) who comment on "For Sale" threads without adequate confirmed alternate sources and prices will be unwelcome on this forum.

10.  Please do NOT "bump" (that is, posting something in the thread so that it shows up in the "Recent" lists) too frequently.  If you must, please bump your sales threads after a week.  The logic is quite simple... if everyone who has an item for sale starts bumping everyday, the forum would be flooded with these bogus posts (which do not serve much of a purpose anyways).

11.  Sales of items totally unrelated to RC are strictly prohibited. The same applies to "toy grade" radio control items. The admins will determine if the items are toy grade based on things like whether spare parts are available etc.  No exceptions to this rule.

We consider second-hand item sales as an important part of our quest to make this hobby affordable to everyone.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to make this process better.

As we see more and more classifieds style sale activity on RC India, I request both buyers and sellers to use the "Trader Rating" system to leave feedback for each other.  This will surely help in identifying the "impeccable" sellers from the "average" ones ! (we don't have "bad" ones, right ? ;))

Feedback can be done using the "Submit feedback for <user>" link on any member's profile page.  Please do post some justification for your feedback, instead of just using it like a multiple choice question :)

I have been notified of two incidents which do not seem to be in the spirit of this hobby, this forum and general decency :(

In one case, someone paid Rs200 for something, but the seller gave the item to someone else who bought more stuff from him, and made no efforts to pay the Rs200 back.  Even though the amount is small, it is the principle that matters.

In another case, someone made a payment on June 30, but no confirmation was received that the item was shipped off to the seller.  He has not received it, and the seller does not seem to respond to status updates even though he is logging on to the forum all the time.

Kindly avoid such instances...  Do unto others what you would want to have others do unto you !

NOTE :  There is no point in names, and these incidents may be just circumstantial... just follow up and over-communicate to ensure smooth transactions.

I came across some threads in which people saying about their bitter experiences in their deals. Such as non delivery of goods after payment.
In order to avoid such issues in future i suggest the use of VPP  (value paid by post, Cash On Delivery like) such as one provided by Express Parcel Post
http://www.indiapost.gov.in/netscape/ExpressParcel.html

Even if charges are high this kind of payment method should made a Standard mode of payment for all the trade deals made in Rcindia.org.
Just for the sake of piece of mind and to Guard the reputation of this forum

Thanks

Anwar ji, if you do not mind then I would suggest that you change the color for the last line to Red color and also small edits so people do not skip that important point that post would be deleted if price not mentioned.

As shown above.

I am saying this because I personally skipped reading it though you mentioned it in the post saying the asking price is updated. Just some user experience suggestion (as I am a web designer).

For point 2, I would suggest a photo of the item with a piece of paper that mentions the sellers userid on this forum and the current date.

I would discourage this.  The main reason is that we already have lots of RC related classifieds, and these items are general purpose (which means a place like eBay would make more sense because of the wider audience who would still have interest in such items).

Scale models are models... they would fit into the scheme here.  Please feel free to post them for sale here.

Dear all -

Due to persistent complaints to too much classifieds activity, we will be strictly enforcing our policy against frequent bumping of For Sale threads.  The rule has been clarified here.

http://www.rcindia.org/for-sale/guidelines-for-classifieds/   (see #10)

Yesterday, I was forced to delete the account of someone who had close to 250 posts here (mostly sales related though), who could not digest this rule despite repeated requests and warnings, and later resorted to threats about creating new accounts when banned etc etc. My firm belief is that this decision is in the best interests of our audience, so I solicit your co-operation.

Note that I have resisted suggestions from many many people that we should make posting of classifieds difficult by not allowing newly joined members to be able to post classifieds until they have N number of posts, or N number of days have passed. I feel this prevents genuine sellers who find the forum only when they have something to sell, but continue on as participating members here.  I am trying to strike a balance between ease of use and abuse of the classifieds facility, so once again I request your co-operation.

I could write something to enforce this.  But end of the day, people will say "Good job" in couple of other threads, and come to their sale again.

For such is human nature, everything is a means to an end.

I am just trying to put some common sense rules that does not get too much in the way of how people want to use this forum.  I do not mean to be too restrictive.  If all people want from this forum is to sell and buy stuff, who I am to say totally NO to them ?  Remember... for every seller, there is a buyer who benefits.

All through this, I am tending to lose patience with some people who act with such idiotic/moronic attitude that there is not a single bit of consideration in their thoughts except to "get what I want done, right NOW". And I am forced to vent out a little steam on them.

If anyone here knows Kalpesh Patil from Airoli Mumbai in person, tell him that leaving obscene messages on Facebook is generally considered an indication of how people are brought up, although it could be more in this case.

I know he has multiple accounts here including a new one created yesterday, so I could have sent a PM. But I am leaving it at this for now... see if a little naming and shaming can help. People do not realize doing something like this is a serious enough offence under the Information Technology act, which seems to have inappropriately large punishments even for such seemingly minor offences.

This member also has been fooling the audience here with at least 4 different accounts created here, and selling items though all of them, all of which have been banned.

All -

We have been deleting "bump" posts that are posted within a week.  This is part of the attempt to reduce the excessive focus on "trading" that seems to have gripped the forum.

So if your bump post got deleted, we are sorry for the inconvenience.  Please do note that this is very much desired by the audience, as noted from feedback obtained in private and public. Your co-operation is solicited in upholding this.

Your benevolent dictator...

Should people posting sale items stick to the sequence for final sale in the order of buy acceptances or should the seller spring surprises by deciding to sell them to people who are not even in the post? Is it ethical to nego outside while you have a recent post in the sale thread? Had such experience in a few recent threads on the Sales board.
