Hi All,

I am thinking of getting into R/c planes and to begin with I have shortlisted the following items:

Thunder Tiger Beaver 40 (High Wing Trainer)
Thunder Tiger Pro 46 Engine
Servos 4nos. Futaba 3003 or Hitec 311 (Pls. advice which is good)
Nicad Battery
AR6200 Spectrum receiver for my JR DSX7 radio

Kindly advice if the above is good, would appreciate your suggestions as this is my first plane.

Arun has already been flying helis, so a 40 size nitro plane is not a bad idea.  Be sure to put enough time on the sim, as there are significant differences between a plane and heli in terms of flying.  Also, choose a wide open field for the first time.

I am not sure about the durability of ABS plastic versus balsa, I see differing opinions here.

In general, you are up for some work if you crash either one BAD, it seems.  Other than that, your selection of equipment is OK. The servos are very similar in specifications, the Hitec seems to have a slight advantage.

Though I'm very new to the RC world, I'd sure like to put in my 2 bits worth.
ABS according to a lot of people is not a good choice as almost everyone crashes and repairing ABS is difficult.
To begin with a High wing would be the best choice as most dehydral semi symetrical high wing planes are the most forgiving................ something a beginer would essentially need.
Everyone has their own favorites and the best thing to do would be to go to your field and look around. You could look at the Seagul Boomerang, or if you would really like a very beautiful and forgiving trainer you could get in touch with 'Harveer'. (http://www.rcindia.org/profile/?u=899).
He makes a very good trainer and you would actually have a great time learning and flying with his trainer. I think he would be taking one of his trainers to Amby Valley this year when the event does take place.
