Dealing with such agencies requires patience and some "people skills".  There are others threads here on the various ways people have got things out of customs.

Requesting someone from Delhi to assist via information at least, if possible.

Hi All,

I have imported a Life Battery by EMS from Singapore on 09.11.2010

Today I happened to track the parcel on singapore speed post to find that the parcel is  : Held by Customs at Destination

Please let me know is this normal and do i need to contact the customs people or will it be released automatically.

Looking forward to your kind feedback.

Thanks

Arun

I am probably facing the same fate for my HK 450 Heli despatched via EMS from Hong Kong on 5th Nov. Which is the site you are using to track the shipment?

You have to go there... usually they send a letter to inform you but that could take over a month and sometimes it never comes. Better to call the local GPO their and inquire by giving them the tracking ID. They should be able to tell you the status. Then you probably need to go to the Customs' office.

What's the status with your parcel, sir?

VC

Zero = Zero!!!

I have checked all the sites and all they say is that it left HK on 5/11. My local EMS centre tells me that all parcels first reach Customs and only after they are satisfied, do they release it to the Postal Authorities.

If the Customs are not satisfied, they send you a registered letter which may or may not arrive at all. If you do get the letter then you have to furnish the necessary documents and/or visit them. So I probably need to go to Kolkata and spend more than the price of the Heli on my return airfare!

Catch 22 Situation : They have given me the Kolkata Customs phone numbers. However, if I call them, it may cause more complications for the parcel to be released. I guess, I just have to wait it out.

WARNING TO ALL: AVOID USING EMS.

Agree with VC, my Heli was detained for 1 month and I didnt received any communication from customs.  When I managed to track my parcel they said .... Items like this are never released by customs. He added that we have so many lying in our warehouse.

I like to suggest that for any RTF never use USPS parcel. Customs will always create a hassel.

Coimbatore 0422-2300180

Just called up Coimbatore EMS and the lady who attended the call was very courteous.

She said that the parcel has just arrived at Chennai and should reach me in another 3 days time.

+1 Avoid EMS.

DHL is the best.

Thanks

So what I know and experienced atleast 3 times, the package "always" clear the "office of exchange" which happen to be the first port where it entered in India and they dispatch it to local custom office which happen to be GPO in your city. Postal Offices have a customs department as well where the EMS/Normal International post/parcels will go.

So maybe wait, or call the local GPO to confirm the status.

In my past 3 shipments, they always cleared the "office of exchange". Once it was Delhi, and two times it was Mumbai. First time when it was Mumbai, it had a invoice pasted on it with worth over $450 and total 12 items in it (clearly mentioned). It was not even marked as gift, yet it got cleared the "office of exchange" and they sent it over to Bangalore GPO. That was not even EMS, regular USPS shipment.

I just love to use EMS, and avoid DHL/Bluedart/Regular port whenever possible. Its just matter of your experience, mine was good so far.

My parcel contains just the Life Battery alone.

Will there be any problem ?

Thanks

Incidentally, mine is NOT a RTF kit, it is a barebone kit + all the spares. It doesn't contain the Battery, Tx or Rx.

Will the battery be a problem with the customs ?

Anything and everything could be a problem when dealing with customs... you can never predict them for sure. Usually it is not a problem, but as I said anything can be a problem :)

VC dude, I'll suggest be patient with your 450 barebone, I got my J500 from HK in 15 days in Gujarat, Nehutech got his 450 barebone in 15 - 20 days in gujarat.....

If you call the EMS and / or customs, it will create unnecessary troubles for you.

I have got a 500 size heli kit, servos, ESC, Gyro from HK (all separate parcels) within 15 days flat without any problems.

I think I will also join the gang of people who criticize RC India for too much HobbyKing shipping talk :giggle:

Basically, there are like 3 things...

1.  Shipped from HobbyKing, a parcel can take up to 45 days.  15 to 25 is normal.

2.  Tracking can be done using couple of websites.

3.  If it gets stuck in customs for over a week or so, better to take some action on it (like calling and/or visiting).

This is all that happens, and all that one needs to know.  Not sure everyone reporting the "current status" of their individual shipments is adding any value... except the "feel good" factor for people who have no issues with the shipments, and "heart break and pain" for others whose items are delayed or stuck in customs.

I am posting this based on private feedback of many, and is NOT AT ALL directed at anyone in particular :)

Most importantly, nobody is helping me summarize the Hobbyking related material into a nice FAQ, as suggested here :
