Title: Amps to set ?
Post by: parichya.gautam on November 12, 2014, 02:54:05 PM
I needed to know that what AMPS should i set up in the charger ?
I have IMAX B6 charger ( blue colour one )
Battery is 30s 2200mAh 11.1 V

The charger is rated at 5A output. Any relation to that ? As the charger's max output is 5A too .

If you want to charge the batteries at 1c then set the amp to 2.2 amp

30S or 30C ???
Rightly mentioned by SORAV, If you would like to charge the LiPo at 1C then select 2.2 Amps and it should charge the LiPo in about 1 hour.
If the LiPo in question support a faster than 1C charging rate (check specs) then increase the amps accordingly in order to achieve faster charging.

Example: For a LiPo with 2C Charging rating you can select upto 4.4Amps and so on...

As far as longevity of LiPo's are concerned, lower changing Amps = longer Life.
1C (2.2 Amps in this case) would be the recommended setting.

Well in that case you can safely charge it at upto a max of 6.6 Amps which will charge this LiPo in about 20mins.
But since your charger can support a max of 5 Amps it will take a little longer (about 26mins)

Recommendation in simple language for your setup:
Charge at 1C (2.2 Amps) all the time = ~1 Hour charging time
In case you are in a rush it's ok to charge even at full 5 Amps = ~26 mins charging time

I just select the LiPo Balance charge mode and select the 1A charge. Thats fine too right ? Ive heard that higher amps charge reduces the battery life ?

Yes 1 Amp is fine too.
It's just that this way you would need over 2 Hours to charge the LiPo 8-)
If time is not a problem, go for it.

Still, 1C (2.2 Amps for this LiPo) is the most widely used option and yield fair amount of life from the LiPo as well.

I am doubtful about the 3C thing.Kindly check once again whether its 3S or 3C.

Most of the normal lipos can be charged at a max of 2c charge while nanotech can be charded at 5c charge.

Never heard of 3C thing.

25C must be the battery discharge rate. Please post a link to it. Anyway charging at 1C (in this case 2.2A) is recommended for maximum battery life. As far as I know, in the IMAX B6 charge mode is different from balance mode. I think you will find this video helpful though it is quite long.
