Hi,

Complete newbie here - I looked at RCModelReview's excellent videos on charging and using Li-Po batteries.
I wanted to charge a Zippy 1600 20C using the B6 iMax charger, and (I suspect this is really dumb) I two questions:

1. What's the easiest source of 11-18V DC to put the battery charger's clips on?
2. It seems the right connectors / adapter is not available in the charger (battery uses the XT60 while the battery seems to have everything for  -| kind of a jack). Are there adapters available for this or do they normally need to be hacked together?

Much thanks for your patience!

you are talking about imax b6 charger, it need a 12 v ac to dc adapter with 5A rating. You can get it from any electronic store for less than 400inr. Zippy has xt60 connectors in which case you can buy a dean connector and solder to it. Else you can buy a xt60 to dean cable. Check you imax box you will find clips which you can hung around the lipo for time purpose..  cheers

Battery has two ports, Charging and discharging port. the XT60 is a discharging port. the other one(white) maybe a dean connector has 4 pins for a 3s LIPO and this is normally used for charging. normally we don't hack or solder/desolder battery wires as its dangerous. Hope this helps.

Thanks!

I was given to understand that the XT60 is also used for balance charging, in conjunction with the dean connector. Is this correct?

no, no xt60 is similar to dean with just different in construction. Purpose of both the connectors are similar, dont confuse it with JST connector. The JST connector is used for balancing the lipo cells. A balance connector is kind of breakout connector for accessing all the individual cells contained in a lipo. This allows for the monitoring and manipulation of each cell individually. So for a N cell lipo ,  balance plug should have N+1 terminals. It is important to have all cells balanced , a heavily imbalanced cell  can even cause fire.
