Title: imax b3ac problem
Post by: Darshan for multirotors on May 16, 2015, 09:25:06 AM
I have a imax b3ac from quadkopters.com
I am facing an issue with it..
I kept my battery for charging and it's been 1 hr 15 min but all he three led s are red..
I have a 1500mah turnigy lipo
This usually never happens but now it is happening..
Is there any problem with the charger

Please post the voltage reading of each cell (after charging for atleast 2 hours)

The cell 1 and cell 2 led lit green just after a minute or so after posting the comment but since then the third led is red and it has been almost 15 mins

i suppose u should check the lipo cell voltages may be they are under voltage sometimes b3ac charger recovers cells but they cannot be fully charged ..
as posted above if the lipo doesnt charge let us know the each cell reading

Issue arise due to unbalanced cell and this usually happens. But with your charger u can't charge single cell :(
And charger can't balance if difference is more than .20volt. Usually this difference is sign of limited life of cell.
If u charge it for longer battery cell will start to heat which is not good at all and overcharging of other cells.
One trick is use your battery until each cells shows 3.6V and then charge it. It may that charger will balance it (if cell is not dying)
Don't keep on charging if two led show green and one is red.

Heating of the battery in not a big issue! Such charger charge those battery by a series of charging and discharging which we we call balance charging(Charger gets hot on discharging)
Such chargers also have a safety timer that cuts off charging after a given time(normally after 1 hr) and th LEDs remain red...so after say 45-50 mins you have to switch off the charger and then switch on to being charging!
If you have a multimeter check the voltage of the cell...if you don't as you have entered hobby get a multimeter from a local electronics shop(very cheap 100 rs)....you'll will need one!

I also have that charger and it it is a request for all experts please can you recomend me a good charger and a proper explanation of do's and dont's while charging a battery .how to use li po safely, what equipmentsdo i need for it ,which
li pos are most reliable and forgiving  ??? ???.i fused my charger i think at last charge now none of the 3 led glow idont know why it happened is it due to using a damaged li po.is it repairable?
To much question no solutions great confusion please help

This is not the best place but here is my advice:
The IMAX B6 (usually clones) or the IMAX B6 Mini (original) are good all round chargers. Both are computerised and can charge multiple battery chemistries (LiPo/LiFe/LiIon/NiCad/NiMH/Lead-Acid etc.). They also have features like LiPo balancing and storage that can be very useful. Clones have the disadvantage of being less accurate in voltage readings. You will need: charger, battery, LiPo safe bag, whatever necessary adapters, multimeter/LiPo voltage checker (better). LiPo balance lead extensions are also nice to have
I don't know if there is such a thing as a 'forgiving' LiPo. ALl I can say is treat it well and it will treat you well.

Here are my tips for LiPo charging:
Do not discharge your LiPo to less than 3.2V per cell or permanent damage WILL OCCUR. 3.7V per cell is a better threshold[/li]
[/list]
These are just points that came to mind, do your research before using LiPos. There is much scaremongering when it comes to LiPos but they do have the potential to cause serious damage.

Can you send me a link of both charger as the chargers you are telling me also have great variety which i see
Lots of confusion that's why any link will work ( want to see specs ) and why copy of b6 is copy is better than original and also can you tell me how much will these cost.
2.is turnigy balance chargers are good as many videos of flight test and maker hangar recommend
