same happened with me last month , do one thing  as it is 3 cell battery , take  the cell out which is pufed with the help of soldering .

Sb_Maharana

Don't do any experiment; safely dispose the lipo.

vineet

sir this is not an experiment , if he can see which after removing the cover that which cell is puffed then it can be removed and the rest of the battery can be run saftly , i did that last month and no problem after 10 cycles.

Performing an open heart surgery on Lipo batteries is highly discouraged for people who are not very expert with Soldering and DIY Electronics. The connection strips from individual Lipo cells are very thin and delicate and there is high risk of short Circuit while dismantling, leading to possible fire. A little puffing is normal after few uses, just ensure that the Cells are not overly misblanced, which would indicate need for changing the battery pack.

Nevertheless, what do you suggest to do after removing the puffed Cell ? Use the pack for something else or try find a Spare Cell ? Do you know that the individual cells are properly matched (for their internal Resistance)while assembling them in a pack ? Badly matched LiPO are either discarded or sold as low quality LiPo.

I have always advice people to use a Low Self Discharge NiMH pack instead of going for LiPo. The only benefit of LiPos are that you can Fast charge them. But rest are all demerit - Incorrect Low  Battery Level warning , risk of over discharging, fire, cumbersome charging.

You can spend more more money and get peace of mind. They come in similar capacity of the LiPo and should last 2 days of flying.

I was recently gifted a lot of 10 badly puffed LiPo batteries by the commanding officer of an Army unit (Someone here knows what I am talking about :giggle:). All the batteries were fairly new (less than a year old) and had puffed / ballooned as they had been left discharged and unattended for a long time. All batteries are high discharge 3S 1800 - 2200maH.

Luckily, I have a dear friend Sandy who is helping me restore most of them painstakingly. In conclusion, it can be done but don't try it at home unless you are sure you know what to do.

i really need that type of friend who gift me so, any ways  gbisht i am alaways ready to have that gift from you ,

or as i see you are also from delhi , may be i can help you in repairing your lipos

VC

My friend Vineet, you don't want that kind of a gift. Trust me.

I had to sacrifice Rs.1,75,000/- for those 10 puffed up LiPo batteries.

Yes Sir, that is what it has worked out to.

Let's not discuss this any further. All that I have to say to the people who made this happen is

:hatsoff: I have so much to learn from you two gentlemen. But guess what? You lost and I won. Financially and otherwise. Keep visiting this forum under your false / real identities and you will find out real soon how you helped me win. Just wait till the end of August.

finally  secrates revelled till the end of august we will all wait .

what,s the secret sir?

That is not so important anymore. What I would like to share, end of Aug or earlier, is what I've been lucky enough to get a chance to be part of.

Oh! great some secret sharing is also addind in this thread...

anyways, RC Friends I was unable to stop myself and pined that puffed battery and find some liquid is coming out and then I removed its yellow cover, put its steaker on those pin holes, attaching that pic

I also tried to charge it till 10.5 V and tried to used in transmitter, and its working, (Just test and removed).

I don't know should I use it or not, It is puffed but I don't know how much or how much it can be ?

I also have 2C 1200 mAh batteries and they are brand new but after few testing (head test, motor test etc) they are seems little puffed (but little only).

What is LiFEPo4 Battry, can we use our 2C or 3C charger for charging it ?

3s 1500 mAh LiFePO4

and also looking alternative of my existing battry, and seems compatable above (but dont know much about LiFEPo4 & its charger) and follwing one.
but I think its require to change its connector into JST connector.

dont ever puncture the cell when it is fully charged.

by looking it 2 cells are dead , 1 is still alive . they both are dead now they will discharge quickly if you charge them ,even after you take the gas out by puncturing it ( or may be you can try and share what happend but only after sealing that cells with good tape , and keep an eye during charging whether they are getting warm or puffing.

how did it happened this is the worst case as genrally lipo cells  started puffing from negative end to positive ,as you can see your battery the first cell from starting negative is puffed and then mid one and this will contineou till the all get puffed with blast in worse case ,  you can use the last cell as it doesnt seems to puffed , but it only gives you 3.7 v.

which charger you are using ?

do you know how to charge ?

rajathv8

Avoid fiddling with a puffed lipo. You may save 1k or more but if things go wrong you will lose a lot. Beware of dogs and puffed lipos. :D

Sb_Maharana

Today instead of doing the submarine work I did this.......  :giggle:

vineet

wow man that is a cool mind blowing effort , but still it can be more easier if you put your lipo in a box while charging  ;D

gbisht

Hi Vineet,

Thanks for reply, just now I again checked and its showing me 10.5V and its is not discharging automatically.

I am using walkera factory default charger (GA005 Balanced charder for LiPo Battery Pack), but the thing is I have charged it only once, and using in transmitter, and only wrong I did is, I left this in transmitter without discharge.

sory for the typo , was trying to say that it could be happend because of bad charger also. have you ever tried to charge other lipo as well with the same charger.

vikalp11

upto how much time can a Lipo be kept without use?
& how to safely dispose them off in case they get puffed?
These Lipo are a tension. We should start researching on Life batteries - as they are much safer.

vineet

i have heard may be for one month on half charge

and the way of disposing it off is to send me the lipo , :giggle: :giggle:
