Title: Building my first Plane
Post by: RAHUL QUADY on May 26, 2019, 11:01:20 PM
Hi guys,I want to build an RC plane and I did some research too. I have a 1000kv motor,6ch i6 tx,30A ESC. The only thing I am not sure of is wing design.I even built a balsa styled plane last month(not exactly balsa wings, but the process is same),and it didn't fly.So, this time I want to use hot wire to cut thermacol symmetrical wings. And the final thing I am not sure of is,how to calculate CG of plane. So please help me guys!!!!!!!.

Hi Rahul,
making another wing out of thermocol will not solve your problem ...

please post some pics of the plane you build .. will help you understand why it did not fly..

Not exactly balsa???
Whad did u use,was it plywood?
What was the weight of the plane?
Watch this for a brief idea for size, dimentions etc for a standard 30a rc plane:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KOixZFAyoik

Sorry i couldn't find any pictures in my phone now.I will post them as soon as i find them. What i did is,i cut so many airfoil shapes from cardboard, then i glued them together and wrapped a piece of white chart around wing.I know it sounds dumb, but i wanted to give it a try.And i think my plane is extremely tail heavy.

And one more thing, how do i heat up a nichrome wire?,i connected it to a 9v battery, and the only thing thats heating up is my battery.Specs of my wire-
Guage-24SWG
RESISTANCE-4.39Ohm/m
LENGTH-~1m

So if i connect my 2s 850mah lipo to nichrome wire, will it heat up?,and is there any chance of getting it blow up?

Yes and Yes, if it's short enough.

Are you sure nothing would happen to battery if i connect it to nichrome wire?,should i have to consider anything about amp rating or mah or voltage?.Its a new lipo,i dont want to blow it so soon.

Nothing will happen to the lipo since the nichrome wire acts like a load. However do monitor the cell voltages while running the hot wire.

I would suggest for long run get a 12v 5a laptop charger.
It will work well

Finally I was able to build a hot wire with 9v adapter. It is slow, but it still works. Now,what should be my wing span and fuselage dimensions.

you need to provide the

1: weight of all electronics etc that would fly up.

2: the speed you want to fly at

You could use Guitar string instead. It's faster and better.
