Thanks buddy :) Hey the other glider i had flew much much better after Bhavesh came. It was flew too high and far for a video so didnt bother. Im in love with chuck gliders after what happened today. The eagles chased it. Il landed safe and far and soon after an eagle pounced on it and broke it into two :D Fixed it though. We were there from 8am to 2pm :D

Built the Zephyr glider. Did not use lacquer on this just to observe the difference. Feels brittle though - cracked the tail indoors itself. Leading edges of wing, tail and bottom of fuse ligned with CA to make it hard.

Here are the pics. Will fly this when i get a chance to go to hoskote.

Pic 1: Kit parts - not sanded.

Pic 2: Parts after sanding.

Pic 3: Wing and fuse.

Pic 4: Its done. :)

Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional!

rajathv8

My gliders are from Indian Model Makers and from VC. I am satisfied with both the sources.

Athmiya - Chuck gliders are basic wooden models that are thrown (Chucked) int the air and are NOT Radio Controlled. Their average wingspan is around 30 - 45 Cms.

RC Gliders are much much bigger - wingspan of 100 Cms and above and their flight is controlled by Radio Control. What are you trying to build? How big a model do you want to start with? What is your budget?

Rajath - the Hunter is VERY nose heavy, also, I believe the video is of a rather windy day. Try and fly her on a calm day and remove 30% weight from the nose. She should ideally carry between 10 - 15 grams of plasticene, if she is trimmed right. If the trimming is right, she should glide back gently and not slam down, as she did in the video.
Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional!

RC gliders have a reciever and servos to move control surfaces to influence the glide path from ground using a transmitter. These gliders do not have power for propulsion.

The gliders you see here are just CHUCK gliders. You hold them and throw. Simple and a very good way of starting.

I have sent a PM about information.

Spend a week on this forum reading. Reag through as many posts as possible - you will absorb information like a sponge!!!

I am a college student and am a beginner too so feel free.

rajathv8

I guess we posted at the same time :D

Yup the hunter did not fly very well and needs some trimming. It was very windy on that day. I will work on it :)

I tried but removing plasticine made it tail heavy.

The problem was that it was banking towards the left everytime.

athmiya

thank you sir,
i need a glider with 2.5 - 5 foot wingspan
my maximum budget is Rs 10,000
:(

i have been told of chuck gliders of that wing span exists which is remote controlled
i do not know if that is the case in real...

rajathv8

Yup they exist but i havent found a place to get them. You can try :

New India Hobby Center (Mr Sampath)
#37, Main Channel Road, Ulsoor, Bangalore - 560008  Tel:080-25911811/41133708/09845296906

I think they have one glider.
VC also should be able to help.

#46

yes i had called him two days back but he told me that he has only CESSNA

i had called up RCD also they told me to wait a few days

rajathv8

Any reason why you are particular about a large glider?

athmiya

this similar to the kind of glider i need..
