Electronics For My plane

Hi there,
           I have made one plane out of coro & bio-foam.Its total weight is 350gms without electronics.
I dont know how to decide motor & other electronic :banghead: :banghead:.Anybody Can help me?

Hi, to get exact details kindly post a few pics so that type of model could be known. Still, if you are a beginner assuming a normal high wing trainer go for motor which has 700gm thrust atleast. Link for such motor:

20A ESC with 8" prop on 1000mAh 3s battery is sufficient to make your plane airborne.

Thanks for reply :bow: :bow: will post pics soon.Actually the plane is ready just need to assemble it.It is trainer plane.
Is there any calculation so i can find it out how much thrust it will need cause of my ask is if in future i have to make some modification to plane then i have to change thrust value.
So is there any method/calculation which will help?

Thrust is the amount of force required to lift up your plane. Now, it can be easily decided from your motor. Say the AUW of your plane is 500gm, so you need a motor with thrust atleast 700gm-900gm. AUW(all up weight) comes from total weight of the model including weight of the battery and all other electronics. Do you have any power setup right now?

First i will deciding battery,servos(So will get nearly max AUW) then will go for ESC & motor is that right?

Ok. Right now your plane weighs 350gm. Including electronics would add another 200gm to plane. In my opinion motor I'd recommended you above is a good one along with recommended prop, battery, ESC. Is your plane having only rudder and elevator or ailerons too?

ya it is having Ailerons also.

All the best. Complete your model ASAP. Post pics and videos and feel free to post/ask any queries.
Also, take special care while balancing your plane. Check its CG. An unbalanced plane would lead to a crash which is very bad.

Looks like the leading edge of the wing is too thick but maybe it's just the pictures .

Ya it is thick but think will not create any major Prob because it is having standard chamber height.I followed some calculation  & got it out of that.
Still! ??? what will happen if that is thick?
it will cause turbulence?
or any other side effect?

Well, an unusually thick leading edge causes drag. But if you think your calculations are correct, go with it.

Correct me if wrong. In the 3rd pic it seems wing is not properly placed. Seems it is uplifted on one side.

Ya it is tilted i noticed it but it is because area near that is getting pressed so going to level that area with some  :headscratch:Coro/hot glue & will be fine, will try this week & post pics again.
If any thing Else please point it out.

Just a few quick suggestions

1) Replace the coroplast motor mount with one made of plywood.

2) The downwash from the wing seems to be going straight on the elevator. I suggest that at the very least, cut the inboard half of the ailerons. The outboard half of the ailerons should be effective.

3) I do not know if you have a spanwise reinforcement spar in the wing. If you dont, then consider placing a plywood or carbon fiber dowel along the span because in a tight turn the g forces could flex the wing into failure. I speak from experience :P

4) Try to keep the thrust to weight ratio of the aircraft between 0.8 to 1.2. Assuming you are only using this aircraft to train on, I would suggest a 150 to 200W, approx. 1200kv motor that produces atleast 700gms of thrust. Something like this:

Coupled with a 8x4 or a 9x5 propeller and a '30A 3S ESC' will produce a maximum thrust between 700 and 1000 gms.

5) A 1300 mah 3S battery

The best advice when I got into RC was to join forums and ask questions and become part of discussions. Its great that you are on the same path. It's the best way to get info about the hobby.

Hey hi Prateek,
                   Thanks for all of your suggestions.I have put Coro layered spar at CG throughout the wing.It is made with 3 layers of 3 mm core. Will follow your other suggestion.

you could use an cf2822 and an skywalker 20amp esc with a 1300mah 3s indpower battery

Well if it is ur first model.... then I guess its a descent effort....  OR else you need to work out your gluing method.  It appears that there are far too many dirty corners in your gluing and it will create more drag for your model.  For coro I am sure you can use CA Glur or even Epoxy.  Use hot glue only for places where it is necessary to be used like..... fixing control horns and hinges.  OR use hot glue on the insides of the model so that the rough edges are not shown into the airflow.  Yes your LE is far too thick.  Knowing aerodynamics... a thick LE gives better stall characteristics but your LE is far too thick to be of much use other than create more un-necessary drag.  Thirdly your hor stab appears to be far too small in size for an effective stab requirements. 

A three ply coro spar will not be of much use.  Try using a CF rod or better still make some hard wood spar at the local carpenters shop from any lightweight commercial wood used for packing cases.

At the risk of offending you, may i say something i believe will help you in the long run?

1. Treat this model as a practice build and put it to one side.
2. Look at the coro build logs of sanjayrai55/rcboltz and others
3. Try to emulate their quality of workmanship
4. And build a new model from a well known plan

I wish you the best - a well made model has better chances of success.

I just have a question...i am having a 2200KV BL motor....and my plane's overall weight is around 500gm...which prop is good for this?

How are your flying skills Piyush? An AUW of 500 grams (I presume that includes battery) with a 2200 kv motor will give you a rocket! Which type of model is it?

Remember, high kv motors are designed for speed models, not trainers
