Hi, Am wanting to build Ft Storch and don't want to buy the speed built kit. And need help buying the parts. On the vortex Rc site it says you need this motor to build the plane D2826-10 1400kV Brushless Outrunner Motor to build the plane but instead of that one can I use this A2212/10T/13T 1400KV Brushless Motor as it is much cheaper?

Also would like to know if 24″x12″ 5 Sheet Pack of FliteBoard foam from vortex Rc will be enough to build the model?

Thanking you in advance

Adel

Hi Adel!

The A2212 and DYS 2826 have the same stator size, meaning they would perform almost the same (ideal conditions). But the DYS brand is far superior in terms of quality when it come to the unbranded A2212! The A2212 has a higher failure rate than the DYS brand motor! so initially no doubt youll save some money but as soon as you start working with that motor it would give problems where you end up buying a new one!

I would go with the DYS! Also youll need the other electronics and hard ware for your build

electronics needed:
Motor : 2212 stator size 1400kv\
Esc: 30A with in built bec ( preferably emax or hobbywing skywalker )
servo : tower pro 9gm
servo extension cables
and the recommended propeller (something smaller than 10inch)

hardware
push rods
linkage stopper
landing gear
wheels
wheel collar
rubber band and bamboo sticks
firewall and control horns

Coming to another thing

the 24"x12" sheets are small so the 5 sheets will not fit all the parts of the storch and youll need to buy extra sheets

however the 30"x20" sheet pack of 5 should allow you to build it all in one pack.

coming to the point of why not buying the speed build kit itself?
Well no doubt its priced alot but the fact that you are getting all the parts laser cut plus you are getting all the hardware is in my opinion a plus point!

The main challenge i see is to source all the individual hardware components! even if you find them you have to buy them in bulk which may cost you more or less the same over all as the speed built kit!
And then you get the decals also with the speed built kit!

Speed built kit would save you the time and hassle of printing, sticking, cutting, sticking and material sourcing!

Thanks for your advise. I think then that I will buy the speed build kit as you recommend it. But just in case I want to build a plane in the future is EPO foam better then the Flite board or is that one better?

Mohammed Naveed

EPO isnt available locally! EPO is usually molded to shape in injection molding machines almost all foamines are built with this material

depron laminated ( flite board), non laminated depron , corro, balsa and aeroply  are common go to material for building planes.

Push rods come in various sizes(diameter) 1mm, 1.2mm, 1.8mm, 2mm, 3mm and above. using a lathe you can even turn custom made pushrod diameters.

1.8mm and 2mm are used alot. 1.8mm would be best for your flitetest models.
1mm and 1.2mm is for extremely small light weight models and 3mm or above would be for bigger planes
