hello there, im an engineering student on a limitted budget taking the plunge into rc-ing. i prefer rc cars to planes / helis. since im a beginer i prefer an electric to nitro and am looking for cheap deals - second hand is fine with me.
I was made an offer by a friend and didnt know what to make of it so looking for advice from you guys -

2008 model (discont. now)
Truck + reciever in proper working condition
spikes on rear tyre worn out but no puncture
Gear cover is missing (will this be a problem? its ment only to protect the gear)

Oh forgot to mention the price  ;D
I was offered the above package for 6k.

Is it a good deal? :help:
Can any one tell me how much a new one was priced at?
Thanks in advance.

If I were you I'd take the Thunder Tiger phoenix ST... It comes BRAND NEW with 2.4Ghz radio, decent parts support (In modelart in Forum)...
Only thing is it doesn't come with a battery and charger... The cost is about 7k... Check it out.
Thunder Tiger Phoenix BX
Associated RC18T2/B2 Kit
Walkera 5G4Q3
TechOne Angel
Hiller 450 v2
Futaba 7c 2.4Ghz
Slash 4x4 (sold)

. ... is the TX included??  As all the components are entry level, i would say 4K is enuf for it.Wat kind of motor is it? brushed motors hav low resale due to brush-less dominance these days.
Also , tires are very imp as loss of traction is no fun.
check for things like bent shock shafts, wheel wobble, screw heads that hav been damaged ( damaged heads are pain to wrk with)
Also check the steering servo for smmoth operation.
IMO a new one ( not frm a high end brand) with battery pack, charger etc would cost abt 10k in india.. Gear cover is imp but u can cover the exposed gears using some scrap material and creativity. small stones or debris can damage gear teeth at high speeds.
Kyosho PureTen Alpha GP
Tamiya TT-01E (full hop ups and BL system)
Kyosho Mini Inferno
Kyosho MiniZ MR-02
Jammin SCRT-10

yes tx is included.
its a duratrax vr3 motor - brushed.
tyre tread can be seen in the image attached. (its the actual piece).
the gear cover should be a problem as i intend to use this as an entry into the hobby. will come up with a make-shift cover myself.
since battery is old will it still hold the charge and provide 10mins run time as i was told?

i believe that DuraTrax is a better make than Thunder Tiger.

Yes, but driving off-road the truck is gonna break, sometime or the other... And I don't think there are any Duratrax suppliers in the country... That's why I suggested Thunder Tiger

ofocurse , TT has support here ( and it is needed for offroad vehicles) .... i just feel TT has below avg quality. For a good price (abt 4K), i think the used car would be good deal.
The phoenix ST wud cost abt 10K if i am not wrong with batteries and charger. I believe is better to start with putting in a lot of money. The damages will be of similar nature on both cars, but the pinch on a cheaper car would be less.

but one things is very true, more fun u have, more parts u break.

I have decided to save up and go in for the phoenix st. If a broken part in not available its going to make the entire buggy useless. I think its better payin 7k for the TT ST and use it knowing well that any part will be available at ModelArt a few kms away. another member here pointed out its going to be demotivating if i face major problems with my first buggy itself.
