Hello,
I am newbie, and would be glad if anyone could help me understand as to what's a gyro? what's its use? any video tutorial available anywhere from where I may learn to use it? anything at-all about it, really.
This is kind of a vague question, but replies would sincerely be appreciated. Thanks so much ! :)
Have a pleasant day ahead.
Regards,
Tejas

You have asked a question which has no simple answer, to keep the long story short, i guess you are asking about the so called gyro being used in RC aircraft, well to start with it is not gyro at all. it is just an accelerometer, see Dave how well he explains, like he says see the side bar on the youtube, here is the link for 3 axis gyro control 3d plane (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYHaMQEfHW4)
PS
Léon Foucault invented Gyroscope in early 1800s, the axis of a fast rotating mass stays fixed in space (Not with respect to anything, not even to earth), it has two properties called Rigidity and Precision. More of it in a separate section on Gyroscope which i will start soon.
Strap-on, solid state Gyro these days is called RLG (Ring Laser Gyro), Honeywell is Pioneer in making it.
nice video august sir......
your real fighters have plenty of Gyro,s.
they must be assisting you in doing aerobatics?
A gyroscope is a device for maintaining orientation, based on the principles of conservation of angular momentum.
It is used to overcome or oppose the gyroscopic couple...
now , u will ask what is the gyroscopic couple?
well , the turning moment (or simply a force at distance) which opposes any change of the inclination of the axis of rotation of a gyroscope is known as gyroscopic couple.
Effect of Gyroscopic couple in airplane:
1.If the propeller is rotating in clockwise direction if seen from tail and the aeroplane takes a right turn , the effect of the gyroscopic couple will be to dip the nose and raise the tail of the aeroplane.
2.When the propeller rotates in anticlockwise direction when viewed from the tail end and the
aeroplane takes a left turn, then the effect of gyroscopic couple will be to dip the nose and raise the tail of the aeroplane.
3.When the propeller rotates in anticlockwise direction when viewed from the tail end ,When the aeroplane takes a right turn , the effect of reactive gyroscopic couple will be to raise the nose and dip the of the aeroplane.
4.When the propeller rotates in clockwise direction when viewed from the front and the aeroplane takes a left turn, then the effect of gyroscopic couple will be to raise the tail and dip the nose of the aeroplane.
and many more...
Did you know it is one of the trick to do a stall turn to the left in a real life Aircraft, slight push and she yaws to the left vertically up easily, since your forward travel is near zero and the rudder is very ineffective and the gyroscopic effect helps
Here is a cool use of gyros... to stabilize a pool/billiards table on a cruise ship !
