I wanted you to give suggestion on what material should i go for while making the skirt for my Hovercraft...The size of my hover is 35*30...plzz friends reply sonn!!!!

What I have used with good results is the car weather proof covering material. It is like rip stop.

Whatever you do, don't use umbrella material. It is too thick. You could first try heavy duty polythene garbage bag material. Once you get the hang of it, switch over to rip stop.

As I said, I have only used rip stop and have had more than satisfactory results, as you can judge from the videos on my channel and I would like to stick to that:

Vinyl banner material may prove to be too thick, in my opinion, and may not inflate well.

Btw, what kind of a Hovercraft are you planning to build? For some IIT type competition or a scale RC model for your own pleasure?

I just recently made a full scale , single seater hovercraft . I used wax coated tarpouline . It can take lots of wear and tear ! Look for something of that sort

tarpaulin is easy to obtain, (what's wax coated __?) it's used as awnings in shops, etc. But won't tarpaulin be heavy?

The tarpaulin is wax coated . Yes it is heavy but it is rugged too

You could experiment using tarpaulin , though it might be to hard (not flexible enough) for a hover craft of your size . Try the construction site blue plastic materiel !

FORGET Tarpaulin. Unless you are planning on using a Nitro engine with a 12 inch prop.

Actually iam thinkin of using the material that we use to make the water proof covers for bags.....will it give me the same effect as that of the car cover that you were talking of VC???

I was lucky to find a brand new but damaged car cover at an auto accessories store. He gave it away at garbage rates. Weather proof covers for cars is what you should look for.

Vc sir, can  you  tell us  where  to make  holes in the skirt ,  and  any  sheet layer (if any)  to direct the air to the edges of the skirt rather than directly to the bottom ,


and  yes ....  since you used  550 size Brushed motors  with custom built ESC controlled by servos in your built LCAC

1.The efficient construction of the 'Plenum Chamber' is of vital importance to the proper working of a Hovercraft. It serves to minimise the loss of air and distributes the thrust efficiently.

2. Esc and the receiver were powered normally, if I remember correctly. Or maybe the Rx had a separate battery pack??? Actually, since we were so hard pressed for time on the LCAC, the entire details of the build process are a blur now. Once I find the photographs, it will all come back. Just give me some time.

for now can you depict  the  position and placement of the "plenum chamber ' as you said ,  and also  the placement  of  holes (if any ) to let the air  leaving from below giving extra cushioning effect ...    in   LCAC    **  even  via  pic made  in Ms paint ..

  i'm  asking more  about  using  these over LCAC , coz  i got  the 550 motors , so will be  starting  the build .... though not to the scale you built , may be half  it's size , with a single thrust &  lift motors .

**  sir  did  the  motors  you used  have ball bearings ??  ( though not about the skirt  as the topic suggests ... asking )

since  my last  build  did not  move  well  over  rough, graveled place ....   want  this  build  to be  good  on   rough  land  and  water  too ..

bought a Bike cover ....  looks  a lot like the one used for cars ...  

waiting  for  seniors and Vc sir's  views  , who had hands on experience of the material ....

Difficult to make out.  Would have preferred black.

Could you plz let me noe abt the various problems that u faced while making the hovercraft especially the stability of the hovercraft...could u just give tips on how to make my hover more stable while taking turns.

what work does the hole that we have in the skirt do??cant v have a skirt without the hole...atleast for smaller models??
