Good after noon all respected Modelers..
here, is one of my humble effort to realize the ever potent and classic war machine of WW2.. the British Vosper Perkasa.. as it is hard to explain the history here about this craft, anyone can Google it once.. this craft was driven by three gas turbo shaft engines, in mission, and diesel engines were used to maneur.. so we can simply imagine the potential of this machine.. so, she must be fast.. and became one of the greatest machine in my collection..
this time also, there is no plans to download, but entire scaling is done by orthographic projection, (3 View), and scaled to 30 inches, as my all PT boats are designed in this scale.. a great combination RCying.. this one is 100 % scratch built, except the motor and simple servos..
here i starts from big "0" from my work table.. here i prooves once again, we do not need any extra ordinary tools to make an outstanding, practical craft.. here my tools are a heavy duty art knife, a point iron, nose plier, and some hand tools..
here we are.. after proper sketching, template is made on a drawing paper.. then on foam board.. this one is fully made of foam board of 3 mm..
as we are scratch builders there is no restrictions.. adding the bulkheads, up to me needs, while keeping all aspects for internal machines..
one of the easy aspect with working foam board is easyness.. to me, when compared, foam board, (styroflex) stands just second to thermocole..( expanded polystrene).. within an hour the hull is on the mark..
with keeping all experience in mind, i delibrately done some needed changes on hull from original.. why..? yes because this one is not designed and crafted for keeping on bookshelf.. instead this one is for great RCying.. practical.. not a show piece.. so, some minor reshaping is a must..
now hull is ready.. time to fix motor..
the motor cooling jacket is made of aluminum C channel, and here i used an immensely powerful motor.. no compromise..
drive, driven tubes are from sketch pen body and bicycle spokes...placed at an angle, with ease..
the entire gaps were sealed with PS grey.. it adds extreme stiffness with some elasticity..
time to fix motor.. look how simple all.. the cooling tubes are installed..you can also see the rudder servo assy..
cooling system in detail.. we can use same motor cooling line to cool ESC.. used copper tubes as it is inexpensive and never rusts..
prop is made of aluminum sheet of a kitchen lid.. the scoop to cool motor is copper tube.. rudder panel is foam board..
now everything in schedule.. now time to build super structure.. template with paper.. a simple dry run, as the shape of the super structure is complicated.. here 90 % of the super structure is drawing paper.. and foam board..
started working.. later waterproofed..
progress..
for most of the modelers the extra ordinary shape is a tough job.. but here i shows you all how easy to follow..
see here.. the making of curves.. we can make any shape in to any size.. with a song at lips.. not a torturous activity..
completed.. and in place..
time to add the tail..
adding the exhaust assy of diesel engines.. all sketch pen body..
and priming..with PS Grey.. not PSL Grey..
some rechecking is a must, to follow the scale.. dry tests..
making sure every thing is ok..
the mast is made od an old ball point refiller..
more priming and adding the radar mast..
everything is ok..
Torpedos.. the torpedos are made of some glue caps, pvc pipes and caps from super glue..
all glued togather..
the vane assy was made of same pvc pipe..
priming and initial painting..
torpedo holders are made of foam board..
dry run.. on positions..
look.. even at this stage she is a stunning one.. from any angle..
second tone sprayed..
adding the rivet details all..
Guns.. all guns are made of foam board, refil tubes and some wires..
main gun.. and the torpedos are painted in final colour..
main gun primed.. and a simple stand from foam board.. no pipes or plywoods..
the hull is primed, while sealing all possible gaps with PS Grey.. and water line painting.. all paints here are NC based..
i finished her in to dark magnesium grey.. a stunning soft matte textured finish .. stunning for a war machine like this..
gun, super structures are painted..
now.. basic colour scheme is finished..
the deck is in dark green.. careful masking is needed to achieve the correct damacration lines..
once again.. a dry run.. torpedos st place..
adding lights.. lights is the life of any crafts.. here every light is based on powerful L E D s.. to save batteries..
at night she will be an awesome view.. indeed..
adding the plexiglass part.. with OHP sheets..
radome is from foam board..
radar rotator is a simple converted servo, as continuos rotation.. so, can increase or decrease the speed with TX..
adding the stickers..
instrument panel.. and jet engine exhaust caps.. here i am thanking one of the veteran of UK, a great modeler, Dross, who adviced me and guided me to undestand more about Perkasa..
now ready for missions..with everything on board she weighs about 1100 grams..
mission time.. just before official maiden.. at beginning, my test runs showed some troubles.. at high throttle levels, she nose pitched too much, almost made controls impossible.. and also was swaying left to right.. so, back again on work table.. some passivr additions.. and later i added an active stabilization system based on servo.. i simply call it as KASSS.. will explain later.. then she came so stable and controllable.. even at very high throttles.. the shape of this craft is awesome.. we can simply imagine the fear this one inspired on it's era..
now mission one.. search for any RC sub in my lake.. :giggle:
time of reality.. woosshhhh.....
all Friends.. this model is a great dream of every ship modeller.. because this one is rare and well established.. a simple half size kit of this machine costs more than 10,000 Rs/-.. so, i am so proud of myself, as i completed this craft for about Rs/-400.. from work table to lake.. and the total construction time was only three days with lazy.. the expense except the 400 Rs/-, was the expense of coffe and some cutlets.. here i am showing you all we can make any craft with handy things.. ok.. will she run nicely..? its almost hard to control her with one hand, as TX, and camera at one hand.. easy loss of orientation while looking through LCD screen.. still i managed to shot some good videos..
here is the first action video..

waiting to shoot more videos with on board camera, and night missions.. will be back..
thanks for the inspiration.. Sumit.. :salute:
People are getting inspired by you sir... Who we are to inspire you... We are not even 0.01% of yours. You are really a great builder...
Sumit, i never say that scratch building is easy.. but keeping all ideas in mind we can try for.. thank you once again..
