It can be very frustrating to see your boat stall in the middle of the lake with no way to recover but a rescue boat.
Thought of reviving my first self built boat to suit the purpose. I built this boat without any plans around 10 years back and had powered it with a brushed motor then. Now Changed the power system to a 2822 brushless motor with 25 amps ESC and a 1600 mah battery.
The prop is a 3 blade 30 mm prop which came with stuffing Tube and shaft. I bought this long  back from India Hobbies. Motor and shaft coupled with a Brass Flexible coupler.
The boat although not very neat in Aesthetics, will do a great job in rescuing boats stuck in middle of the lake.
Sailed it this weekend. was stable and good fun . Will manage a mock rescue operation the next weekend.
Here are some closeup.
(wanted to create checks of yellow and black.. But lost patience to peel of the masking paper..will do later)

Useful. What is the concept of rescue? You push the stranded boat in?

Rooster

Would be checking push first..but also plan to have the pull method. Will be having a thread and a tennis ball tied to the end of this boat.  This ball to  be then lock with the rudder to pull. I guess that the pull will have a nose up effect on the boat. Will try this weekend and post  video.

You may also think of attaching to Aquarium nets on the port and starboard sides of the recovery boat.

Hi VC
I don't understand this..pls elaborate

I dont know anything about boats but you could make a bumper in the front of your rescue boat that matches the back of the boat you want to rescue so you could easily push it. Or attach some neodymium magnets to the front of all your boats and some on the back of you rescue boats so then the rescue boat can come close enough to the boat you want to rescue, the neodymium magnets attach with each other and you can pull it. Just like train dabbas(i forgot what they are called in ENG) are attached. :)

VC, aquarium nets will have to be seriously large and stick out a fair bit; which implies a lot of turning moment created.

Bumper idea of Neil should work.

Ultimate would be a small crane, with a magnet, which would lock onto a steel plate on the sick boat :D  Like a traffic police towaway truck :D ;D

VC

Or even a simple wooden rod laid across the hull. It should stick out about a foot on either side. Bring the rescue boat in from the stern and push the fouled vessel to shore.

Sanjay sir your crane idea is great but too complex for a cheap rescue boat, if it was something like this then no problem :) - http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/graupner_bernhard_gruben.html

But i think a 90 degree PVC connector and two PVC tubes of appropriate length should do the work ;D:

just have a loop of string with a floater trailing behind the boat... just sail around the victim, and let the string get caught on the rudder or prop, then tow it back....
.

RCNeil21

That could damage the prop or rudder shaft

hii.. nice boat..
even i am thinking of building one.. this boat seems good.. its a slow runner and easy to control..
can u pls share the build plan.. and also wer did u got the shaft for motor..

Rooster

This made from just photographs no plans..there are loads of plans available to build a simple boat. Shall PM you some. Although the shaft here is ready made with stuffing tube. . You can easily make one with a Bicycle spoke.

as dis will be my 1st boat.. i have a very litle idea of the electronic assembly.. wer in mumbai can i get the motor with such a long shaft & also propellors which fit in it..

Rooster

Here are lots of plans
http://www.modelbouw.gompy.net/boottekeningen/

take look at MONO1 and MONO11.Relatively simple.

Also the motor does not have a long shaft... It is another shaft that is coupled to the motor.

That is very good find Sreekant.
Thanks for the link.

Very useful links. Thx.

And this is what Plastic pollution can do to your boat. This was least expected from a clean looking lake.. I went sailing this weekend, the boat reached the middle of the lake and all of a sudden braked. Could hear the motor, but the boat didnt move an inch. The rudder also was functional. Assumed that the prop had come off or the coupler was disengaged.

The Rescue: Rescued the boat with our very old technique.. threw stones on one side to create ripples on water. It drifted the boat to one side..Threw thread tied up to a wooden stick.. It caught up in the rudder.. rest was simple.. Pulled it to shore with a lot of eagerness to know the failure point.

and lo behold..this black plastic bag was caught up in the prop and shaft and had created a ballon at the back of the prop. Hence the stalling.
enjoyed the sail after this.

sanjayrai55

Terrible. There are hardly any water bodies in our country that do not suffer from this disease.

Glad to know your boat is OK and was retrieved safely

Rescue boat needed rescuing :P

Boats not only need plan B but also plan C for rescue
