Monsoons have arrived in Bengal, so flying anything RC will have to wait for Winter. The Monsoons are a start for my other passion... Angling.

To all the wildlife lovers out there, please let me clarify, that I strictly practice "Catch and Release". The lakes where I go to fish are used like Fisheries. The owners release hundreds of Carp Fry, and periodically harvest the fish using nets. But not all the Carp get caught and some grow to huge proportions. These are the ones we try to catch, and if successful release as well.

By now Anwar Sir and others are probably thinking "another twat posting in the wrong section"  but wait, here comes the boat bit.
The bait we use is like a ball of food, which weighs approximately 100g. We need to get this bait ball sometimes 50 meters from the bank. I can cast out to that distance but the bait breaks up due to the force exerted.
I was thinking, could an RC boat  carry my bait to the desired location? I have limited RC experience and Zero with boats. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Why not?
You can use a boat for such a purpose...
But you need to be careful about any plants that grow on the surface of water... they may entangle the propeller...
an airboat or a hovercraft may well do  the needed job..

There are no plants on the surface so that will not be a problem. What type of boat would I require?

topalle

Is there a lot of disturbance in the water? or is it a calm water body?

You can make a bait boat. Google for it...

It is a relatively calm water body. Will checkout the bait boat on Google.

What happened? I suggest a 600-750 mm catamaran boat made of plywood or fibreglass hull ...

Well I looked into the bait boat, and I looked at a few builds on the Forum. I have come to conclusion that making my own is just beyond me.
I have decided if someone sells one then I will buy and if not, I may use a quad to drop the bait where I need it.

i too like angling - generally "golden masheer" on the "subhansiri"  and
"jia bhoroli" rivers.

for your purpose something like a FT007 boat would be ideal - it is available in many avatars
and comes as a whole package - not too expensive.

it will perhaps not be able to carry 100 gms - but you can consider giving it a try

Hey ashimda.. I can help you make one.. It is very easy. You may also experiment a bit on an older boat of mine, to see if an airboat fits your purpose at all..
It is the pervading law of all things organic and inorganic,
Of all things physical and metaphysical,
Of all things human and all things super-human,
Of all true manifestations of the head,
Of the heart, of the soul,
That the life is recognizable in its expression,
That form ever follows function. This is the law.

Thank you everyone for the interest. I'm not sure about the Air boat, mainly because of the rudder. The bait will be tethered to a line which will be dragged from behind the boat. The rudder could get tangled and I wont be able to release. A boat with the prop and rudder under the water would not be affected by the trailing line.
The FT007 is just to small for the job. I will have to make a dumping platform to drop the bait, and the FT007 type boats just wont cut it.
I will probably have to make my own in the end but for now seriously contemplating using a quad for the purpose.
@Saikat you are lucky my friend, No such rivers in Kolkata, unless you count the Hooghly but no Masheer to speak of.
We are confined to our Lakes and our Katla. ;D

madaquif

ashimda....what will be average weight of the bait you are planning to use..?

It depends on many factors, mainly 100g-150g would be used but sometimes a bait ball or Ladoo as we call it can be 200g in weight.

madaquif

I think airboat with a good motor should do the job...

you can make small box and control with a 9gm servo
like some guys use to drop flowers from planes/helis

Airboats have a distinct advantage over normal boats. No chance of the line getting tangled with the prop. All boats have a rudder at the back :P

THe shape you need for the hull is relatively simple to acheive with a thermocol plug that can be used for fibreglassing....
It is just patience that is needed to sand it into shape...
If fibreglass is available, go for it...

Checking out some plans and build logs on the Forum. Have decided that a tug boat design would be best for my purpose.

Dear Ashim Da,

I am not sure replying to you in this thread is the correct place or not. So if not please redirect me to the correct one.
I do have a similar requiremnet and I would really be interested to have something that can help if the price is affordable.

However I myself can throw roughly upto 120-130 feet with a so called "Jota" and 50% is the succes rate that the laddooo will not break.

So in case you finally get a device that could help us doing it, please let me know.

ashimda

Sure no problem. Throwing a ladoo far out is not a problem. But throwing to the same spot repeatedly, increases our chances. Will start a build thread soon.

kunal.chak

absolutely right dada...please let me know once you finalize on the device...

How about a nice big slingshot? Those can be made to have pretty accurate aim and has the added advantage of not scaring the fish away(A boat is bound to do that ??? ).
