Hello Everyone
I am reaching the moment of truth with a scratch built semi scale 27 inch hard chine hull RC sail boat.
The chosen scale is 1/19 to go with my garden railway stock.
The model is bermuda rigged.

Its a mix of various classic wooden sail boat plans available online

Hopefully if this model performs as expected I would use this as a prototype sample to begin commercial productions in future
The bulk heads and stringers were from what is available locally and often referred to as Indian Balsa!
The side skins, decks etc. are from 1/16th balsa. While the mast is from a 20mm dia dowel.
The spreaders, tension adjusters, winches, hatch locks, rudder, push rods, sail winch, mast stand and mast crane are in brass scraps from my garden railway business.
all the fixing h/ware are 6BA & M3 stainless steel.
The stanchions are steel split pins, so are the goose necks, hooks and eyes, but would replace them with brass later.
I plan to include all the brass hardware in the future commercial kits.

The sail & rudder servos are large futaba ones that were lying in my odds-n-ends box. The rigging are from the thin & thick fishing lines commonly available in angler's tackle stores.

The keel weight was cast at my factory on a sunday, and then fixed to the hardwood keel with a pair of 3inch brass wood screws. Finally coated with commercial epoxy and ground(messy job).

The sail suits were made with little help from the neighbourhood tailor
I am using a 4 ch (only 2 ch used) hitech fm rc set with the model.

The hull was painted with a berger wood primer and later finished with a berger white enamel. The deck was shell lac polished and finished with clear marine varnish from pidilite.
Took me 8 odd months to reach this stage of the build.

Here are some photos of the model.

Good boat - main sail area needs to be more for its size.

what is the total weight coming to and have you tested its
waterline - does it float scale ?? i.e not too high or low ?

pline

Yes sir,
I guess would have to increase the main sail area, perhaps the jib sail too needs to be increased a little.
am yet to test the boat in water, have to do that over the next few weekends.

I have attached some more photos of the scratch built 27" rc yatch.
As mentioned in my earlier post, I now plan to make commercial production of this model in kit form.
Kindly let me know if any one is interested.
