Installed a motor heatsink and took the Slash out for a drive. Geared at 13/54 on 2S Lipo, 30 minutes of hard throttle bashing barely saw the motor temp reach 143F.

Terrain was a construction site dirt track with lot of rocks, pits, sand mounds etc. Jumps, full throttle runs, hard acceleration and braking etc. The slipper was tightened to offer next to no slip. Basically I wanted to push the motor to see how hot it will get.

Installation is a simple click-on affair. I have some thermal paste lying around, but did not use any. Seems to do its job well without it. I may reinstall with the paste later on. Will post details if it makes any significant chages.

Suffice to say, this is the best $4 I spent on this truck! Delivery took 13 days.

I have a king headz mount on its way. I bet the temps would wind down further with that installed!

Pics will be uploaded in back to back posts. For some reason, my browser is acting up when I try to upload the pics in one go.
Terrain? If I cant Slash it, I'll Savage it!!

Clips on neatly to the motor. Easy to remove if thermal paste is not used.

Does not obstruct the cap head hex (Mesh adjustment) or slipper nut if installed to the side. Works just as well even though air flow to some of the fins may be blocked by the ESC. Also, wires are not stressed.

That's wonderful. Welcome to the group of slash 4x4 users who don't have to worry about temps. ;D

dude, i think you should apply a little dab of the thermal paste, it helps in spreading the heat better between metal contacts. I have a similar heatsink on my Merv, initially i made the mistake of applying too much thermal paste  :banghead:, after some hard running the paste just melts and flows out. A little bit just works out fine.

Nah, I'll give it a pass for now. The heatsink gets really hot. I dunno if I'm imagining but I noticed that at times its hotter than the motor. But that goes to show that it is indeed transferring heat. Plus the temps are well within tolerances anyways.

That and the fact that I can pull it out to clean whenever I want to.
