Nice, but you should have started with a 1/10. Anyways enjoy. Do you have the brushless combo ready?

Ajo - Why the suggestion for 1/10 ?  The bigger size makes it easier to deal with (assuming the one proposed is a 1/18) ?

1/10, I feel will be more tougher than 1/18. In Cars the entry level class is 1/10. But the 1/8 is also very affordable these days. Mini and Micros are not very popular these days.

@Ajo I had quite a limited budget and for the cost I think its good that I can choose between a truggy and buggy...
I'm planning to throw in a sidewinder micro as soon as my dad agrees  :P

Micros bring down the overall cost of adding high end stuff like brushless and hopefully 2.4GHz

dont worry....its a very good choice...... micros are no less fun... and equally tough... i started off with a mini-z, moved on to a mini inferno and then to 1/10s.... i also had a limited budget in those days...
for the brushless system, look out for other brands too... and if u are really tight on budget, do consider the hobbywing ezrun series.....
dont hold back from experimenting, try and do ur own soldering and stuff....
and if ur doing all this for the very first time, see to it u are careful with e-clips, grub screws etc.... and while gluing the tires , try to be as uniform as u can with the amount of glue.
and always do everything with your own hands.... :)

For the brushless systems, which brands do i look out for?
Any place in India where I could get a brushless combo?

In india , i dont know if anyone would have this size systems. But RCmart.com based in HK is a good place to get stuff frm. Shipping is decent, not expensive...very reliable as far as i am concerned. I , almost every month I have an order frm rcmart...i use the cheapest air parcel service and it takes 3 weeks, no more. customs are never more than Rs.750 .

I would suggest go for a low cost system. the hobbywing EZRun  would be good. it wont be more than 60 USD for entire system, u wont hav to solder any tabs etc, plug and play.
The reason i am suggesting this system is good to try out different gearing ratios and timings etc. it comes with a program card. this all will help u in figuring out how these things work, and if u blow up one of this ( ESC due to over heat), it wont hurt as bad as a CC sidewinder would.

theres xcelorin from Losi, and Novak other than Castle creations.
IMO Novak is a full out hardcore hobbyist stuff, Castle Creations is more like plug and play , u dont need to understand the technicalities.

I have used all these hence talking about them.

Lipos and Charging Lipos is also an expensive affair. wat are ur plans on those lines?

As for the lipo I've found a good 2s lipo at indianhobbies.com...
I already have a 2-3s lipo charger/balancer...
About the brushless, I want a system thats reliable and lasts long... I won't have any use for any of the fancy features...

if u hav a budget, then u can look for a system accordingly...sidewinder would cost abt 150 USD incd shipping etc i think... and the EZrun would cost abt 75 USD.
both are good, ..... the difference in cost is not justified by the features though.
check out the websites and see wat suits u the best.

FM/ AM or 2.4 GHz??
the thing with radios is to get a good radio as it lasts long and also can support ur future vehicle. If u cant put in a lot of money in the radio set now, go fora cheap second hand one.  u can always go for a good radio later on.
My advice, as this is ur first build, stick to a cheaper radio....see how things wrk out... later upgrade.  A new 2.4 GHz would cost anything frm 5k to 10k...entry level to intermediate level, in india.

Radio is one gear in the hobby that can be used even after your first car is dead. So if you have the budget, invest in a good 3 Channel 2.4Ghz one with multi model memory and all basic features required for cars.

You can try the Sanwa MX3 FG which is the second generation. We now have the MX3-X also. You can get the MX-3FG for about 7.5K in India. I use the first generation with 18 model memory and have no issues. Very simple to use for begginers compared to Futaba 3PM.

Or you also have the stylish and light weight Spectrum radios. DX2S or DX3S depending on your budget. Or if still cheaper option is to get a tactic from tower hobbies or a cheapo from hobbyking

If your situation allows, buying a better one first time itself makes sense.  You can recover your investment by selling it, should you find it redundant at some point later on.  Not talking about high end stuff, just something with the most useful features.

My father won't let me buy a high end radio at all...
He's probably gonna let me spend about 3k max on the radio...

u can try ur luck and get a used non computer 2 ch 2.4 GHz radio set.  Very difficult though. Or a decent AM  2 ch should be easy.

Divyam, what is highest you can go for a 2.4 radio? I will check with my friends who have some older radios lying with them. But I cant comment on the condition.
