Title: compatible tires for my MT4 G3
Post by: abhiadya on May 10, 2012, 07:57:34 AM
Can someone pls suggest a compatible tire for my MT4 G3 and can be procured in India

Can i go for any of the http://prolineracing.com/monster-truck-tires? is there something better, durable and economical than proline?

Sadly, all the top brands are priced similarly. You can get knockoffs from EBay.

MT tires or Truggy tires will work with the MT4G3.

For dirt, the trenchers or the badlands will be good. The trenchers are good on road as well. But if you'll be doing a lot of on roading, the street fighters are recommended.

These (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yoko-1-8-pre-mounted-Truggy-tires-WD-/200609861356?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eb5478eec#ht_500wt_949) look like they'd do a good job on track. Can you confirm the hex size on your MT4G3? IIRC, it's capable of accepting truggy and MT tires....

Go for the more aggressive tread if you want to run on a harsher terrain. And do not run the tires I linked on tarmac or asphalt or concrete. They will go out VERY fast.

The hex size is 17mm as far as I can remember.

Then there should be no problems with the tires I linked. Once again, they are for use on loose dirt, NOT on road.

Buying a tire, and the first and the most imortant question i would ask, what do u plan to do/where do u plan to run your car?

this is wat i would use

for on road- street fighter by proline

for off road racing- aka ibeams medium (they work on all kinds of surface and have good life)
or traxxas response pro if u want larger tire (they are soft compound tho )

for off road bashing- .. proline badlands or stock tires which is good enough too

PS- whenever buying those tires do select truggy instead of buggy , as truggy and buggy both have 17mm hex but just don't buy the smaller buggy tires by mistake. :)

@traxxrc1 - I currently use the stock tires and one of them is torn after couple of runs thanks to pitstop. So instead of going in for replacing with similar tires i thought of upgrading to better one.
My usage is both mixed off road and on road, i am also learning so i keep bashing it up a lots too.

then if only one tire is torn .. do replace that only .. i had the nitro mta4 s50 which comes with same tires .. those tires that u have are the tires that work on road and off road bashing and does decent job on the track .. its does everything decently .. other tires are too purpose oriented ..

Do you race or plan to do so?
You can get any decent proline tire. I do like HPI Goliath for off-road and on road use but for that you would have to adjust gearing because they are quite large.
I think Trencher/mashers/Goliath would suit you the best. All three are harder than your stock ones so less ballooning of tires.

Mind you, Mashers and Goliath wont work well on hard packed racing track. They are good for road and loose dirt/grass.
You can also consider big joe if you want really wide and tall tires, they are big but are not that heavy.

yes i do plan to race at some point, but then its a once in a while activity right.

currently my practice is mostly with jumps, turns and speed and i need tires which will withstand all mode and be durable (atleast for some runs).

I guess i am asking for too for too much :) Lemme try around and read with the ones you guys suggest.

The Trenchers will do well on all surfaces.

The EBay ones I linked will be good for racing only. He had one more tread for general bashing. Try that out if you don't want to spend money on trenchers.

"The EBay ones I linked will be good for racing only."

You mean the below link or is there a brand 'I linked'?

Lol, I meant the WD tread. That is for loose(ish) dirt.

Honestly,if i were you,i would just buy stock tire. Buying a pair will keep me hassle free even if one more tire goes off. Moreover the stock one is like jack of all, master of none.

traxxrc  .. the stock one is the best jack of all trades ..

abhiadya - buy the 2 stock tires only , get some truggy tires later for your truck if u want to race .. aftermarket monster truck tires should be your last option as they are heavy and useless for racing, it will only add bling. for regular use get the stock tire it works everywhere and for racing a set of ibeams maybe later on if u want, it will make that car handle like a dream ..

AKA I-Beams if you are strictly racing. I use them on Buggy and truggy and provide excellant grip. Not worth for bashing. Stick to OE for bashing or Proline Badlands.

You can also try Hong Nor truggy tires, locally. I used them on my Mugen. They are not very grippy, but provide great traction on hard surfaces and wear very less. Buy with moulded yellow foams.

He clearly stated that racing would be once a while activity so really no point suggest him something like a  AKA I-Beams or Hong Nor truggy tires

traxxrc , theres no harm in buying those ibeams .. we all race once in a while 3-4 months one race .. also before telling others their advice is wrong please do read wat others/mail4ajo has written . even he has stated ibeams if strictly for racing  .. sticking to OE for others is best ... please cut out with the useless post/posts. what was being said was from a racers point FYI not some backyard basher. everly racer initially is a once in a while racer and then slowly all time racer .. so if he buys ibeams and keeps it .. it will also help him later as only people who have used that tire will know how it changes the handling of a car... he can simply buy a set of stock tires for regular use .. that makes sense ..

You are telling me, buying something for future(AKA i beam) is correct, and what is needed now is not.

lol .. ive used the word "later" lots of times i think .. i think u know the meaning of that word .. i suggested him to buy a stock pair for "regular use" and ibeams "if racing" later on, instead of those useless monster truck tires .. stock works great onroad so why buy another all terrian tire and waste time and money, when he can get racing tires
