The HPI D-box or the NitroRCX GD-4 will plug right into your Nitro 4Tec! They go between the receiver and the steering servo.
Yes, Nitro cars will drift faster, but it's not all about speed, my friend. Style is the draw with drifting. Speed is secondary.
Still, if you can control a drift at high speed, I commend you, because that's not easy! I'll wager you require a LOT of room to drift your Nitro 4Tec!!!

Oh, you don't need a track, and I tell folk all the time, get track dots, or make cones or markers of some type (that can move, if the car hits them, but heavy enough not to blow away in a breeze), and make your own track, in a parking lot, or go to a parking garage after hours! The latter of course, may not be possible in some areas (legal concerns, you know), but tracks are up to the individual. Right now, I make my own tracks in parking lots that resemble mountain roads, with the start in one place, the finish in another!
The beauty of using dots, cones or markers is that you are only restricted by your imagination!

So yes, get a drifter! OR.........You could get a rally car, and drift with that. All you would need extra, are drift-specific wheels and tires! Then you have the option of off as well as on-road!!!

If belt-drive is your passion (as it is mine, all I own are belt-drives), then yes, your choices are very good ones!

In India,most of the RC car owners are into off roading due to inavailability of tracks.I have read about a few on-road tracks being developed.My 3rd rc might be an on-road car.

I also wanted to start out in on-road but my focus shifted to off-road.And since on-road cars are faster than off-roaders,you need good skill or they can go from car to crap in a matter of seconds.

My dad's friend was one of the organisers for the biggest rally in India,the INRC(Indian National Rally Championship).I could get all-access passes last year.Could not make it this year:(.I just love rallying.I have a weird view of drifters.I sort of hate the punks who drift their 1:1 cars around on the roads.No offence to the rc drifters though.I guess you like Top Gear too right?

Yes, I am an on-roader. I was off-road (strictly) as short as two years ago. I have been through monster trucks, buggies, truggies, 2WD, 4WD, Rock crawlers, short-course and desert trucks. I even spent some time tinkering with ultra-speed rigs, but never went faster than 76MPH.

Rally and drift are cousins, here, in America. As you no doubt saw in the Ken Block videos, Rally is actually coming into it's own here, after being sort of overlooked by the racing establishment for decades. As far as RC, it is the last off-road I do.

Drift is a slower form of on-road, and while a certain level of skill is required to drift well, it is less costly than other forms of on-road, and definitely cost effective compared to off-road!

Another aspect I have been trying to convey is that RC rally cars can be made into drifters, with minimal money and effort. So in effect, you have two cars in one, without having to compromise performance in either arena.

Top Gear? You mean that BBC show? No, I don't watch it. In fact, I don't much watch TV, as I am out drifting most of the day (I am retired from the U.S.Army). I occasionally rally, too, as I have a couple of them, soon to be three!

Yes, Infantry, Special Forces trained (awarded the beret, never worked as one, though. Pathfinder).

Actually, the only rally cars that do work in the dirt are Tamiya's DF series. The TT01's not so much. Mind you, they're not intended to be raced on dirt surfaces that most folk abuse monster trucks on, but dirt tracks will suffice. Any rally car will drive well, if it is not forced to do something it was not intended for.

No, the rally VXL is intended for pavement, only. Though if longer pushrods were installed (I don't know if they can be found, probably have to be homemade) in the suspension, that would raise the chassis far enough to be able to go in the dirt!

I have an HPI RS4 nitro drift....With that blue body of toyota ..( Sorry, i have forgotten the model, been out of drifting for a long time...)

Its been lying in my workshop for around 6 months or so..Difficult to find empty space in this side of the town....

I used to drift regularly when i was in hostel which had a Basketball court cemented one...Also, i have changed the original HPI engine and got a O.S into it.....Two years before TORNADO or anyother commercial made fuel wasnt available here so, it became very hard to tune it properly and finally the carb gave up....

Anyway, i still would love to drift if more people come into it and we get a good space to run it...

hey, the body is NISSAN SILVIA S15 and the model is NITRO RS4 3drift....

I really think all you drift guys should get together on this forum, and form a drift club! maybe an alliance with rally guys as well!!

I see some from Bangalore. Maybe a Bangalore drift/rally club?! My friend lives in Bangalore, and he would join, I'm sure!!

Maybe for all the outlying areas, having a central meeting place that is easiest for all could be worked out.

It's how the largest RC drift clubs and organizations got started here, in the states! It only takes a couple of people, will someone start?! I hope so!

Team XRAY,HB have some good touring cars.Never seen a full fledged drifter from them.

There are no rulers......It's hard to say who has the market cornered on drift and/or rally, but the companies who have introduced drift cars to their line I would say have more market share, though who is "top dog" remains to be seen.  HPI, Tamiya and Yokomo all have drifters in their RC line, but more companies are trying their hand, because regardless of what RC magazines do (which is not always indicative of what is actually going on, in the RC world), drift is catching on, in more parts of the world.

It is because there aren't many companies who have drift-specific chassis, that many RC enthusiasts (yours truly included) craft their own, from touring car chassis. I HAVE seen Monster trucks do it, with homemade drift wheels and tires, but they look more comical,  than a serious attempt at drift.

that is very true.An offroader drifting does not appeal much to the purists.

Overall,it seems like off-road is more popular here.

Rally might be the new big thing like what happened with short course trucks.

Either way,I will stick to loving 1/8 buggies and fantasize for one immediately.A nice TC would be fun for sure.
