The cheapest drift car I can think of is the Thunder Tiger Sparrowhawk DX..
If you can import, you can even look at the MadDrift series..

Maybe he meant 5-6k. If I were him, I'd have a good look at the Carisma range of R/C cars. Some tape on the wheels and these things can drift quite well for the price.

if you are looking for something in a 600 range, local toy shops are selling mini cars which come with smooth plastic wheels and a set of rubber grip tires.

but they wont be a lot of fun. they are 4wd though.
