Hi,

Need help to convert HSP 1/10 Nitro Truck into Electric (Brushed)

I already have Brushed ESC
https://hobbyking.com/en_us/hobbykingr-tm-brushless-car-esc-45a-w-reverse.html

Can anyone help to order brushed Motor/Gear/Motor Mount

I am thinking Motor 540

1:- dont have budget,
2:- I already have ESC.
3:- I dont need speed
4:-brushed motor is cheap

May be I will upgrade it later after successful upgrade from Nitro to Electric

I converted my sons HSP savagery 1:10 neo truck to brushless

Don't waste your time with brushed, it will never be capable of enough speed.

I used traxxas vxl6 ESC, team orion r8 motor, maxxamps 120c lipo

He loved it

GThanks

But I dont need much power now.

I m prepating this for my child (4 Year old only)

So looking for slowest speed .....lol

Ahhh I see.

Try a 600 drill motor from Johnson, you'll need a decent brushed ESC, like a novak rooster or tekin RX

Avoid cheap Chinese brushed esc's

This SCT is running a 20 amp mtroniks 20a, and a 600 drill motor, 2s lipo

Thanks for videos but I want to know how to install brused motor in Intro (how to convert nitro car into brushed motor car)

Hello Gbisht,

As i know its not going to be simple. there is no straight forward kit where you will remove the engine and put a motor.
People may do it but you need solid tools for that, specialized metal pieces to install motor then correct Pinion.

Finding right parts is another big hurdle.

I would suggest sell it off and buy a decent electric car.

Its not that tough, experiment with pinions and get someone to cnc an aluminium mount for the motor. No rocket science here. You can google to checkout a couple types of mounts, and scale it as per your motor. Make sure you're able to adjust the motor to mesh the gears right.

I hope gbisht you must have understood with this ...

Received 540 Brushed Motor , Gear and Motor Mount today,

but here is new issue now, if I mount motor on motor mount then main supra gear is not touching pinion gear (gear on motor)
need to do some modification or convert it to 4WD to 2WD

Plz suggest, if anyone done this before

Finally I received all ordered parts and after changing in gear box and few adjustment
I am able to fix motor mount on correct location, installed all electronics and its working

BUT......now motor is heating

I am using 7.2V 1500 amh 35C Lipo with below ESC and Motor,
can anyone guide me where is mismatch

Firstly Congrates for getting to run it electric.

1. Is motor pinion and spur mesh ok, meaning it should not be too tight.
2. As per the car size motor seems to be small
3. Run motor independently and see it it gets heated. if it is getting heated problem is in setup.
4. what is JST plug for --> Fan, hope you are using good connectors, XT60.
5. I see you have not soldered the wires to motor that can also be the reason for heat. proper connection required.

Keep us updated on progress.

gbisht

Thanks Saurabh Ji,

1. Motor and Spur mesh is OK
2. Motor size is 540 and ok for 1/10 size car
3. will test it and update you...

4. I am using low discharge battery, so I guess JST plug is fine, I can change it to XT60 if its required
5. Motor points are soldered now, still getting heat

Hello Gaurav,

4. I am using low discharge battery, so I guess JST plug is fine, I can change it to XT60 if its required
JST is only Ok for 2-3 Amps , I suggest use XT60. although motor heating is not related here.

5. Motor points are soldered now, still getting heat
Heat means ??? if its warm ( after some 3-5 min run) and you can hold for 20 sec by hand then its ok, motor will get warm while running.

Motor is fine for 1/10 but compare to your car load if you use bigger pinion on motor. Then it also directly increase load on motor and getting hot due to over load. So try to use lower teeth gear on motor or higher no. Of teeth on gearbox.

gbisht

I am already using lowest Pinion, 9T/3.17mm 32 Pitch Hardened Steel Pinion Gear
Main Gear I am using is :  Main Gear (48T/32P)

I am not discouraging but brushless would require more smooth and accurate gear mesh.

As you shared video the mesh is not at all OK for fast speed run.

gbisht

Saurabh Ji,

Thanks for valuable feedback,
I am ordering other pinion for accurate fit, and not install BL untill I will able to reach smooth mesh.

Hi All,

I am writing and starting this thread again, after a long time I got change to work again on my Nitro to Electric 1/10 Truck

Mostly things are fine but having two main issues

1. Motor Heating
2. Pinion gear is not as per Spur gear

I need help to identify correct size of Pinion gear according to my spur gear (let me know how to identify it)
or
I can change both if any one suggest me any set

Update

After searching couple of videos on youtube, I have identified correct Module & Diametral Pitch of pinion I required
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJmoJp00k50&feature=emb_logo

Gear box image :

I have brushed motor which have 3.175mm Shaft
and pinion I need 1.0M with 3.175mm shaft and 25.4 pitch size

So I am getting only below pinion which is fulfilling my requirement but it have 22T Teeth (which seems more for a pinion) not sure
https://hobbyking.com/en_us/22t-3-175mm-m1-hardened-steel-pinion-gear-1pc.html

Now I have below doubts
1. Is my Gear setup is correct ?? (As I am modifying it from Nitro to Electric and dont need much speed)
2. Can I use new pinion (22 Teeth) with my gear setup ?? link below
https://hobbyking.com/en_us/22t-3-175mm-m1-hardened-steel-pinion-gear-1pc.html

Please advice your expert comment ....Thanks

Can Anyone help me to get pinion with

Pitch: 1M or 1.0M
Shaft Hole : 3.175mm

Teeth : 9T or 10T or 11T or 12T and so on less then 16T

I checked at hobbyking and found mostly motors have 3.175mm shaft
but they are not selling 3.175 mm pinion, most pinion are 5mm bore

and I am getting 5mm shaft size only in 1/8 scale motors,

Can anyone suggest, or have 3.175 mm 1.0M pinion in his spare section
