After 7-8 months of convincing my dad, finally went down to ThrottleRC and picked up a Slash 4x4 ;D ;D
CRAZY HAPPY!! ;D ;D
Jayanth was an awesome guy to deal with! Thanks Jayanth
Thanks Gandhar for helping me with the decision!
Pics and vids to follow!
AWESOME!!!!!!!
You won't be disappointed dude.If you need any help, feel free to call or message me. :)
We are so going to race dude. ;D
Also, I got a 2s LiPo (The Tritech one) ;D
Probably be at the track tommorow ;D
And, I couldn't get the High Quality photos straight onto RCIndia, so I just uploaded them on Photobucket..
http://s1101.photobucket.com/albums/g426/divyam666/Slash%204x4/
When's your next exam? I MAY come to the track tommorow! ;D
Damn!!!You're already lipo-ed :giggle:
Wait till the 30th 8-)
My last one(the one that matters the most ;D ) is on the 13th.
Nice co-incidence.We got the same edition.
Yeah!
Waiting for Jayanth to get the LiPo connector changed to the Traxxas one!
Charging the stock one now! God it takes Forever! :banghead:
Hey congrats man :)
I have 2 sets waiting.Got them with my tools ;D
Didn't you guys open it up at Jayanth's place?

8 hours to be precise. It will get over at an odd time.Set an alarm.I have seen the charger 'false peaking' many times.
A word of advice, use the training mode.
What charger will you be using?
Hey congrats man :) if you are at the track hope to meet you tomorrow. I'll be there by 8
hey. congratulations on your slash divyam. take some vids if u can :)
and yep the stock batts take a long time on the stock charger.
anyway congratulations again and enjoy at the track.
wish i stayed in bangalore too.
Congrats,
I thought you were going for the 2350...what happened..??
Either ways, nice choice
BTW gandhar, you'v got a nice companion to race with, join him dude
yup....I surely will :)
First throw the stock charger and get a decent one which accepts all batteries. GT Power chargers is a decent one available locally. Enjoy the Slash.
Thanks for all the compliments, guys
For the moment, I will be using a basic 2s-3s charger.. Will surely upgrade in the near future..
Gandhar, We HAVE to race! :) ASAP!
I thought of getting the 2350, but getting such a big box cleared from customs will take LOTS of time and money.. In addition, I need another 2 batteries.. All adds to the cost.. So, decided to go Slash 4x4!
Thanks Ajit.. I'll definitely take pics.. Vids if possible too!
Shashank, still not sure weather I'm coming.. But, if I am, surely meet you there!
I'v heard a lot negative about the alphastar that its made of cheap magnets that tends to get hot easily to reduce the price, plus you can go only 4s on it. and yeah batteries and charger would have been additional 5k atleast, good choice
And, now that we have enough Slashes, we can start a SC categoy in all major races, hopefully!
Not sure I can hit the track tomorrow.. Maybe next week, Shashank?
Divyam, the RCINC already has a SC class.I'm pretty sure we can have sc races at pitstop as well.Jayanth is speaking to the guys at pitstop. There is a good chance I can come next week. But If we race,we race on NiMHs or I should get a lipo from someone else. :D
Err.. not too sure about next week. Got CA exams in about 2 weeks. Will keep you posted :)
Best of luck for your exams!
Sure we can race on NiMH's!
Ran the car for the 1st time today around the complex! TOTALLY AWESOME!!
Can't wait to drive it again! ;D
@Shashank:all the best man :thumbsup:
We'll see if we can meet up on the 17th then.I'll have 4 days to re-condition my pack.
Sure!
But, I'm most probably gonna lose! Still getting used to the Brushless powaH! Its crazy! ;D
I am still on training mode but I can handle a 50% boost in power.
Lets see 8-)
Let me get my mods(especially lipo, tires, sway bars) and from then on,our real races will begin >:D
I started on Sport mode.. Because I need to learn throttle control.. Its too Awesome! ;D
I have to be careful as well.No idea how much wide open throttle would be like on lipo.
I usually gun it in training with no probs.

I thought it would be very easy for you since you already had 2-3 cars before an this is not your first one :)
His ealier car was bruhed ans 2wd so this will bw a lot faster. How much current will the slash draw on full throttle in sports mode? No videos yet? :)
I have run it in sport mode but that was just once. And the REAL sport mode will be sporty on lipos.
Its rated for 200A continuous and 320A burst.
http://traxxas.com/products/parts/escs/vxl3s
As Rajathv said, my previous car was 2WD.. I could gun it no problem..
So, I decided not to go trainig mode.. Maybe when I get LiPos, I'll start off in training mode..

The manual says that the ESC draws 200A continous, and 320A peak..
I really didn't understand this part..
Maybe the motor draws less power? 8-)
Gandhar, take your Slash off training mode.. Even without LiPos, its a TOTAL beast! ;D
Sorry, I can't get videos, unless I have a cameraman! :giggle:
My bro's too busy these days.. After sometime, I'll make him take videos! 8-)
Planning to open it up in 4 days. All closed away right now.First priority would be to do the tube mod so that I can begin off-roading.And then it will go to full power.
I guess the ESC can handle a 200A continuous load but I'm pretty sure the motor won't draw more than 100-120A on full throttle.
I'v heard motor is a 75A rated motor, man, mamba SCT is rated about 100A, so i guess velinion motor might be aroung 70
At such high currents the HK lipos cannot be used right? 2200mah 30C = 66A
2200 is never meant for cars buddy, manual always says minimum batery requirement which varies from 3000mah upto 8000mah for extreme performance
Haha ok got my facts wrong then :)
For 1/10 scale cars,4600 mah is the lowest one can go.5000 mah around 30C is ideal for most applications but some lipos do offer 60C discharge rates. The MaxAmps ones offer 160C rates but have not been tested nor are they necessary in off-road racing. They are meant for drag racing.
1/8 scale cars use 4s,5s,6s lipos but usually they use 4s lipos.
No man, it depends on both mah and C rating.
It depends on what car are you running.
A simple 35-60A ESC and motor dont need high capacity batteries , any pack with a discharger of around 20-25C and 3600mah will be more thn enough, though for 1/8 you need atleast 120A thus a 5000-6000 mah 30C lipo would be needed.
Do NiCad and NiMH have any discharge rates?
They are not specified.
Obviously yes, its just a unit of discharging, but they are significantly low compared to lipos.
Not sure but they are max 5C.
It depends with the size of cell. AAA will have least while D size will have max. What we use i.e. Sub -C have decent rates of discharge.
The discharge rates of niXX cant be significantly improved like lipos and thats the reason why mah comes into play. The low amp capability of nimh sue to low discharge rates is overcome by high capaciy in terms of mah
@rajathv8 - every single electrical output has a discharge rate in C (Coulomb) :)
Still weight is a problem. My 7 cell 3000 mah will be heavier than a 5000 mah 2s lipo.
The ONLY advantage Nixx had was low cost but HK has removed that too. These days, some Nixx packs go for more than equivalent lipos.
Quote from: Samanth on April 10, 2011, 01:53:44 PM
@rajathv8 - every single electrical output has a discharge rate in C (Coulomb) :)
Not really, some are specified in amps and some in watts.
If max is 5C @ 3000mah, max current = 15A.
What happens in a Nixx is discharged at a higher rate. Lipo puffs up so what happens with nixx?
And C is not for coulombs.It is for "capacity".So for a 5000 mah pack,1C is 5 amps per hour.So if a number is 'n',it means 'n' times the battery's capacity.So 40C on a 5000 mah pack is 200 amps for 90 seconds.
Nixx heat up.
Sorry, would like to ammend that, 5C is i think the rate for AA, not for sub C.
Sub C will be higher IMO like 10-12C, still not sure.

Heats up, resistance increases but no case of explosion till the discharge is extremely low thats why we dont need LVC with them.
But,NiMHs have been known to explode under EXTREME circumstances.I believe they can go down to 0.00V/cell and it won't hurt them nor will they have a memory like NiCd batteries.

Memory effect is negligible in Nimh.
I dont know about this voltage thing that u said, and never heard of it, may be my knowledge falls short lol ;)
And yeah, un over charge/discharge these NiXX explode of like a shot gun shell !!!!!
Says here nixx do not have specific C rating. The discharge depends on the cell itself and on the manufacturer :
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1127160
OH ! Yes, i stand by correct. C is the Capacity of battery.
'discharge capacity' :)
Not gonna be running the NiMH for long!
Wish I could've gone to the track today! :(
Woulda got my LiPo!
Lets now start racing these beasts. Mine is out for sometime. but will be back soon.
Will keep you guys posted.
Cheers
Sure man.Next week onwards,we'll start.On the last sunday of this week,I'll be lipo-ed ;D
Hey! Belated Congrats!! Gandhar has some company now! Put up some action pics when you can. Nice color scheme :)
Thanks! I'll try and get someone to drive, while I take pics..
I'll most probably be at the track this Sunday.. Wanna come?
I'll surely try. Which track though? I've never been there before..
Hey,don't let anyone drive!!!You drive and make them the cameraman. ;D

Lol that's a good idea. But on training mode I don't think it'll hurt to have others give a go.
hmm........probably.Still,no non-RC-er gets my car.EVEN if the NiMH is below 8.4V(The time when it begins to feel REALLY slow)
Haha.. I was talkin about people at the track. Not the ones who gawk at it on the streets.. ;)
yeah.Thats alright. If I come to the track, you guys are welcome to try it.(If the batts have enough juice in them :giggle: )
Hey what's the speed on one of these on stock batteries? Not on Training mode but 100%. I'm planning on picking up an electric in the near future. But I don't want the hassle of LiPo.
hmm...........35 mph on stock gearing. 40mph on a higher ratio with the included 'speed pinion'.
That's more than enough! I'm more inclined towards acceleration than top speed really.. So no speed pinions.
I guess I want an electric for those lazy afternoons when you just want to turn it on and run till the batteries die.. For more elaborate days, nitro :D
for acceleration,nothing beats a lipo
Well I'm by nature extremely lazy and careless. And LiPo's I've heard usually need childlike care at times. :D Plus I'm looking only at the 2WD model currently. I need a hobby grade basic funtime runner. You know like your regular toy rc cars, but of a much higher quality.
I love the toy rc. Mainly because i can run it on my study table :D Have a small ferrari F40 which can drift and do doughnuts :D
The Titan motor ain't gonna last very long.Thats what I have read on international forums.
Have you seen those tabletop engines? I love them!! But you're right, those micro rc cars are a ton of fun!!
Hey this is not micro. About 15cm long. What tabletop engines??
Most brushed motors dont last al long as brushless for similar performance i.e speed and accleration.
Check the following link for the tabletop engine. Its just awesome! I don't know if there are youtube videos. But search for it.
http://gyroscopes.co.uk/d.asp?product=VTWIN
15cm long? Isn't that too big for a table?! Unless its a BIG table! ;)

Hey sorry, I did not see this. well I guess its relative. I mean I have some really cheap, really old toy cars that still run fine with some new batteries. Most of these guys shred their cars to bits and generally abuse it a lot. But I will be running it with love ;) At least for the first few metres :D
Congrats on the new purchase, well deserved. Hope to see you racing at the next RCINC>
Tassem, just get a Mini E-Revo! If you don't plan on racing it, ofcourse..
That thing is a BEAST!
Nobody in my family likes to take photos, and they don't know how to operate my camera properly! :giggle:
Thanks Siddharth.. Will surely take part as long as its in Bangalore! :)
I've read good things about the mini e-revo.. But I don't want to spend so much at this point. Hence the interest in the Slash 2WD. But lets see. I always go with one plan and come with another ;)
Brushed motor need change of brushes from time to time, which most guys are not aware of, so the motor looses its grunt, and people throw it away.
as far as electrics go, iam looking at the vorza. its pretty costly. regarding my future plans, i have to either go with the vorza or the baja. i love both of these things!
VORZA! Just my personal opinion ;)
You see, Gandhar and I are trying to convert everyone to electric! :)
So. my Slash had my 1st crash today..
Came off a TINY jump, while gunning the throttle and steering at the same time Cartwheeled a couple of times, and rolled over like 5.. WORST MISTAKE EVER! Had to learn the hard way.. :(
Fortunately, nothing broke! ;D
I LOVE this car..
Also got my first scratches on my body..

About the car, I'm reading up on the Mini Savage and Savage Nano.. Very interesting. But the nano seems to be a rebadged minizilla. Not that its a bad car. If the price is right, I'd love it!
The slash is doing what it does best.Survive. :)
Yeah, I wanna see the Mini Savage too! IF it can live upto the savage name, it'll be Awesome!

Trust me, a LOT more to come! ;D
Hey that's exactly what i've been thinking as well ! A nitro is awesome at the track, but because of the sound you cant run it as and when you feel like it. And with me, i want to run my car as much as possible. This is where an electric is useful. But then again i dont want to spend 25k, lets see if anyone puts up a good used Slash 4x4 for sale :)
@Divyam: Congrats on the scratches :) but i think with your body colour it wont really be very visible
Yea.. If anything, it probably looks more authentic :giggle:
TBH, you don't have to spend 25k.. If you don't plan on racing, a LOT of good, cheap, electric cars are available!
I've got this formula one car from a brand called Carisma that I had modified with bigger wheels and tyres for use on bad roads. I haven't used it for a few years now cause I lost the battery tray that used to sit inside the Tx. I remember it to be quite fast but it used to spin out a lot after the bigger wheels.
Guess will dedicate this weekend to getting it back on the road. If i cant find a tray anywhere, I guess I'll solder a rechargeable battery pack to the Tx or something along those lines.
Fingers crossed!
I dont think i'll be racing. Revo satisfies all my needs for racing :) just to play around near my house, on the road etc without disturbing anyone. Nothing serious
Just get a mini e revo or a mini slash.(vxl)
@Tassem: All the best for your restoration :)
The mini e-revo is stupidly fast, not much fun IMHO. Slash 1/16th is pretty good. 1/16th scale is ideal for my needs, i guess a 1/10th would be too big. How good is the rustler 2wd vxl brushless ? Anyway, if i buy one its only after exams so i have time till may 15th to decide :)
The Revo is only Stupidly fast if you put LiPos in it.. Otherwise, it'ss be just fine.. And, whenever you want, install a LiPo, and you do standstill backflips! ;D
The Slash 1/16 is based off of the same chassis.. So, if you don't like the Mini Revo, you won't like the Mini Slash.. Anyway, all the best for your exams!
Thanks :) That's why i was looking at the used Slash 4x4 option. Hopefully by May end someone will feel like giving their Slash away
Its mot that easy for someone to let their Slash go! :giggle:
Used Slash's do come up every now and then. And the price is really attractive too (10-13k). That's my plan too :D
There is a rustler VLX being sold on the forum for 10k.
I know. I made a bid on it. Let's see if I get lucky.

Action pics coming soon..
Waiting....Did you do the driveshaft mod?
Where did you drive it?
Gandhar - No! Had no time! :(
Rajathv8 - Its a dirt road behind my road.. Not very far! :D
Here they are!

Nice pics.
I liked pic 13 the most.
why the mods??
There is an opening in the chassis where the driveshaft exits.Rocks and dust can get in there and damage your driveshaft. In some cases, they can destroy your slipper as well.
Pic 3 reminds me of the freedom park wall falling on a car yday :D
I like pic 12. Did you take these pics and drive yourself or did you finally find a cameraman? :D
Thanks Guys! :)
Most of the pics were taken by me while I was driving.. Like the little crawling pics..
For other pics, I got my bro to drive for sometime, while I took pics..
I even got the car a little wet.. But, no probs! :D

Thanks for uploading the Vids man!
Even your Sparrowhawk is gonna be FAST! >:D
As you can see in the 2nd video, I am a driving phail :|
REALLY need to work on off-road skills :giggle:
You really have to.If this consoles you,I may be just as bad or even worse. :D
Its really hard to control at full throttle in dirt :D
But, we'll learn on track :D
Hey welcome! The first RC car i drove is your slash :D The only thing better than 1 slash is 2 slash :D You guys should meet up! :)
Well, the 1st PROPER breakage - A pinion gear!
After jumping it 4-5ft in the air MANY MANY times, and sometimes landing with the throttle on, finally managed to break (I wouldn't even call it stripped) the pinion. No problem, as the Slash comes with another pinion, the "speed pinion", which is essentially just a few teeth more..
Will put it on as soon as I get some loctite :)
Also, coming soon, a LiFePO4! :D
Be careful with the speed pinion. Its 5 teeth more than the stock. I would be weary of using it. I'd suggest you wait for a 14T pinion and use that one. Had I had my motor, I'd have given you mine.....
So should I use the "speed pinion" with a 3s LiFe?
I know using it with the stock NiMH is fine.. What about the LiFe?
Good to see people going for Lifep04 pack,i am having a blast with a 5s battery on my 1/8 scale ST-1 truggy.
Make sure you do atleast 20 charge/discharge cycles to no less then 3.26v/cell for the break in or i can guarantee you that they will puff.
I wouldn't suggest the 3s LiFePO4 on the speed pinion. Anything over 8.4V seems bad.... An NiMH drops down pretty quickly. The LiFePO4 will be close to a 3s lipo. I'd suggest the stock gearing. More voltage demands lower gearing....
Hmm. Let me see if I can get a stock pinion.

Hey Thanks! I've already spoken to him. Very helpful guy!
Hi divyam,
I want to buy slash 4x4 please suggest me where to buy and cost .
Hi divyam,
What is the cost...suggest me to buy
Google -> Taxxas India -> Enter -> Find Price. Tada :)
ok..Can i buy from tower hobbies or amainhibbies..Because in traxxas india they dont have stock itseems.
If i buy from tower or amainhobbies customs n all i have to pay iam rite?
good luck with that :P , they'll charge you 100$ + for shipping and there's no guarantee what customs will charge. if you want to get it abroad, ask someone there to buy it and send it to you unassembled. that's what i did
i don't have any idea abt this that is y i am asking :)...Ok thanks
