On a suggestion from Rajat,I started this thread.
Well,I decided to go the track today. My brother was driving,I was the 'navigator' with google maps.Things went well till we reached the outskirts of the city. The roads.OMG!!! :o >:( >:(
Well,we went off the path thrice.Scraped the roads a few times. Finally, reached the track. *sigh of relief*.Called Jayanth and guess what,we were in the wrong parking lot. :D All that effort paid off.The Track at last. *sigh of relief again*
Met Jayanth and a guy called Abhishek.Spoke for a while, ran my slash. Those guys said I should treat it like a car,not a baby. ;D So,drove it on NiMH and it was an exhilarating experience.Jumping,cornering.........had SOOO much fun.Stopped and waited for Shashank and Divyam to arrive. They came separated by a few seconds. Finally met some more guys. So,we started again and practiced and played around.Had fun racing Divyam.Psst,I beat him ;D 8-) 8)
Saw the revos and a pulse running.Nitro sounds good.Played with the guys.Crashed a lot.The slash came out without much damage.
Had lots of problems with my 'navigation' on the way home.My brother is slightly angry now and I'm typing this. But all that trouble was WORTH it.It was a SUPERB day at the track. My thanks to all the guys who were there.Had a BLAST.
Now,its cleaning and (possible) damage assessment on my slash.
Now you guys must be thinking ,"I read through all of this,WHERE ARE THE PICS!!!???";D .Well,Divyam and Shashank took some pics. They'll put them up later.
It was the best day EVER! :D
I crashed my car SO much! :o
I'll put up the pics soon! ;D
Grrrr, wait for the race! >:D
Finally got my LiPo too, it's SO awesome! :o
Hey nice to hear all this!!! :) Waiting for pics! :)
Oh,and Shashank almost crashed into Jayanth on the straight.Man that moment was crazy. ;D
Which vehicles did the racers have today? :)
Today,we had 2 slash 4x4s(Divyam,me),2 revos(Jayanth,Shashank),one pulse(Abhishek),one TT MT4 G3 and a TT Tomahawk.(Both were Joe's cars).
Joe's MT4G3 was AWESOME!!It didn't handle as well as I expected it to.Even with a center diff,it wheelied.Still,it was one bad@$$ car.
Nice :) How was the tomahawk??
And how many packs did you run?
Couldn't have asked for a better saturday! Met many RC enthusiasts, had a great time running at the track with some peace of mind ;D Went to meet Jayanth, Divyam and Gandhar but it was nice to meet Abhishek and Joe too. Lost a lot of time getting to the track and i think those who had already reached lost some time. Sorry to everyone i kept waiting, will make it on-time the next time. Running at the track was awesome fun :) lost count of how many tanks i ran today. All in all, had a great time and we should do this more often ;)
@Gandhar: Even while returning i lost my way !! Got stuck in MAD traffic and reached after 1.5 hours. May be i'll hit the track tomorrow too
PS: Rajath and tassem left to meet. Hope it'll happen soon :)
Here are a few pics i clicked and a small video

Haha. Jayanth was on the track and i missed him by a few cm's i guess :giggle:We badly need a pit and i need to get onto the stand and drive
Rajat,I ran my NiMH down and ran Jayanth's lipo to 7.5V.So,2 packs of awesomeness. But my brother drove more. :( Next time :)
Seem to have something stuck in my drivetrain.Gonna do the tube mod as soon as possible.
I believe a pit area will be made shortly. The stand is awesome.

Exhilirating huh?? Wonder what you'll say after you run it on your lipo's :)
EDIT: Just saw your post, you actually ran it on Lipo's :D
Yup.It was total fun.My brother is getting bossy. :( No more driving for him >:D
Bossy in the sense ?? I got up on the stand for the last few laps. I think that's when i ran out of fuel too :( i want to check my timings when i'm on the stand
Cant wait to hit the track!!!!
Thanks a lot for the videos and pics guys :)
Gandhar how long did the slash last on 7cell Nimh. 3000mah right?
And how long on lipo?
Bossy in the sense that he is telling me what I should do.I remember you times on the stand were from 27-29 seconds.
The slash did around 15 mins on the 3000 mah 7 cell NiMH.On the lipo,we ran for around 25-30 mins and still had some juice left.
Not bad. I have 2 x 2400 Nimh as of now.
Do they have peak chargers for lipos there? Or one has to carry their own charger?
You have to carry your own charger.I didn't even see a power outlet.
Hmmm.... What was the lipo capacity you used today?
6000 MaH 35c.. 2s LiPo :)
Anyways, here are the pics! ;D

Divyam, when did you click so many pics ??? weren't you running your slash ? Pics have come out very well :) especially the Pulse and your Slash mid-air ! I missed a cameraman :(
Yeah I clicked a LOT of pics, while my bro and his friend were driving..
Gave me a chance to take other cars' pics also :)
BTW, I even convinced him (My bro's friend) to get a car! 6 moths later, he'll also be a car owner! ;D
An electric i'm guessing ?
Haha probably not.. He loved the smell, feeling etc. of nitro.
Gonna help him whichever he chooses to go with :)
Pic 10:Faceplant. ;D (The slash with the rubber bands on the body clips is mine. All this was while my brother was driving.
Pic 37:Jayanth vs Divyam.Lesson learnt by Divyam. >:D But he held the revo back for quite a long time. {:)}
Pic 56:Joe's MT4G3 doing a wheelie. :o ELECTRIC POWER!!! ;D
Later on,Divyam and I realized we were coming off the jumps on power. :o :o Thanks to our slippers,we were saved.Spur and pinion look okay.
Yeah.. The Revo vs Slash was totally awesome! >:D
Electric power fTW! :o
My spur and pinion look fine too.. Gonna tear down the Slash as soon as I go get some decent tools :)
I'm slightly worried about my motor temps now.Hope there is nothing seriously wrong.Need to do the tube mod as soon as possible.
Dude, it'll be fine.. :)
BL Motors are meant to go that hot!

Thanks man. :) The tube mod is the single most essential thing.I might sound anal here but I'm gonna keep a log of how things are going.
pic1: slash normal on ground
pic6: slash nose up
pic9: slash normal in air
pic10:slash nose down
pic22: slash vertical
pic29:slash almost up-side down
pic31:slash fully upside down
Haha :)
Slash from all angles in action!

That' good to hear :) hopefully see another guy with a nitro in a few months!
@Gandhar: What's the max temp your motor can be at before its too dangerous and what's the current temp ?
Quote from: rajathv8 on May 22, 2011, 11:56:08 AM
Slash from all angles in action!
Yeah. ;D
The magnets start getting damaged at around 200F.My motor was doing 130-140 when I checked. But it was close to the limit. It ran cooler with lipos. The rotor is around 10F hotter than the can.180 is the max safe limit.
Hey with 40F you have some leverage. With nitro's we're told not to exceed 270F and we keep it between 250 to 260. Is it the same for electrics ?
Not really. Our motors shouldn't go over 200F.VXLs have overheat protection.
How did you check the temp?
Jayanth's IR temp gun. ;D
Its a nice 'toy' to play with on the track :giggle: .More important for the nitro guys though.Still, its a great tool on the track.
Its actually quite important for us electric guys too, to check motor and ESC temps.. :)
I really hope we can i hit the track often and keep this thread alive by posting activities at every visit. The plane guys who go to hoskote bed almost thric in a month {:)} Hats off to your commitment  hope we guys also do the same :)

BL Motors are meant to go that hot!
I think I found out why my VXL was running hot on that day.I suffer from 'nitro finger'.It means I blip the throttle. That causes amp spikes and raises temps.I should drive smoothly from now on.I remember blipping the throttle on the straight and the corners.SO it warrants a change in driving style.I hope that one run did not cause any problems.
And if my ESC didn't go into thermal shutdown,I don't think my motor became too hot.
Yeah.. I try NOT to blip the throttle..
I specifically told my bro and his friend to NOT keep blipping the throttle!
Well,now I know where I went wrong.
BTW,Divyam,do you want the tube as well?My dad might get it.If he doesn't find one,he'll have one made at the factory.
Visited the track yesterday. Had an awesome time :)
Here are pics and vids.
Also a vid of the track for those who have not been there.
Please excuse the quality of videos - i was driver + cameraman :D

Some more..
Busted a wheel bearing. Pic shows what was left of the bearing :D

Was the track horrible or was it reasonably ok? I heard that it is in a horrible condition as of now....
Sorry about your bearing. Was this the new one?
From the videos it looks like its not been maintained well. I see a lot of small stones on the surface. No problems for the monsters i guess ;)
Yeah. But apart from the stones, I don't foresee any other problems...
The track was in a bad condition. Small branches, lots and lots of leaves (kept getting stuck between the dogbone and turnbuckle) and gravel heaps and dried bushes. I did not expect anything so i didnt have any problem with the track condition. Hope things are better next time.
The tyres gave up - hardly any traction - easy to drift :D
It was more of a bashing session for me :D
Nope this was the stock bearing. It happened after an hour of running or so.
