Title: RC car connectors
Post by: rajathv8 on May 08, 2011, 12:00:10 AM
Which connectors do you use and why?

There are so many out there - on HK itself some come with 4mm bullets some with 5mm bullets.
So is it that we decide on a connector and use converters for everything else?
Is it possible to have some sort of protocol here?

I use Traxxas.. Really good connection.. And, it's waterproof! ;D
But, I've never used any other except for Tamiya (Can't take a lot of load)..

I've heard that deans is also very good.. :)

The most common car connectors are Deans and Traxxas connectors.I prefer Traxxas due to their current handling capacity and the ease of use.

Some people use 'Anderson Power Poles' but I haven't seen many using them.

These days, lipos come with 4mm bullets into which you stick the harness and have a connector of your choice.

And stay away from Tamiya(molex)connectors. They are used in very low power applications.

I used deans today and they seem to be very easy to use. But can tey handle 150A current?

You don't see 150A draws frequently. Some systems do draw this much power. They can handle a 150A burst IMO.Safest to use 6mm bullets from Castle Creations.

Deans are most commonly used. I am currently using 5.5mm Bullet connectors better than Deans and Traxxas in load carrying. But I feel its a overkill for my 4S application. I can safely use 6S, though. Traxxas has become popular because of their RTR cars. I am planning to shift to Deans, so that I can share batteries on the track and have uniformity across all cars. But I hear its hard to solder. Never tried my hand at soldering.

Which combo are you using to look for 150A? TRX can go upto 100A. Deans is 50A, if I am right.

Its quite rare to get a 150A draw.Don't worry.

We use deans connectors most of the time. Soldering them takes a while but seems to work with all applications. But personally i have found traxxas to be a lot better. Have heard good reviews about bullet but not tried them yet.

Not sure what the big deal is about soldering deans :headscratch:

Have been soldering connections for a while and in my opinion Traxxas and Bullets are simplest to solder. The deans are a bit tricky but once u get the hook of it, u can solder them in a few minutes as well.

As far as current handling is ther nothing can beat the bullets but i prefer using the deans for the batteries. U can never go wrong with connections when u use the deans and the traxxas connectors. U will never end up shorting up your electronics with the deans and traxxas connectors. The bullets may get u toasted if u r in a hurry and don't pay attention. I generally use bullets between the motor and esc. this allows for quick change of motors without the need for resoldering items.
