Hi Seniors,
I am very new to the RC world and I just purchased a Toy Grade RC car(Maisto RC Rock Crawler). I have upgraded the battery with 2 S Lipos.
I have ordered a 2,4 Ghz RX/TX for the same car to increase the range of control. Could some one please be kind enough to guide me to replace the receiver with the 27Mhz stock one? pictures or a video demo would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Abhiman.
You have posted this in the wrong section. Moreover, your question is a bit ambiguous. What exactly are you planning to do? I have a similar rock crawler that I am thinking of upgrading. Sad thing is that the steering is very weak and there is not enough space for a servo there.
I have ordered a 2.4GHz RX/TX (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=31671) and am just thinking of using that for my Maisto RC Rock crawler.
So basically I tried to dismantle the car to the best I could and was able to hack in the battery socket to get wires out for using the 2S Lipo batteries.
But what I cannot figure out is how to make use of the new radio controller. Where should I connect the radio receiver on the electric circuit board so that it can be operated through the 2.4 GHz transmitter instead of the stock(27MHz) transmitter.
I need someone to guide me to complete this process.
Thanks,
Abhiman.
what I feel you will need to do, is ger a brushed speed controller(reversible) and connect it to the rear wheels and rx. same way figure out how to mount a servo for the front wheels and hook it up to the rx. remove the old pcb first. also when getting a esc, find out the max amps drawn by the motor and get a esc accordingly

post a photo of your existing internal layout - in detail not
taken from two miles away and then we can advise
otherwise it is just guesswork
I have the exact same car. The interior is really cramped and not good for a beginner to modify. To make it work with that transmitter, you will need to get:
A brushed ESC (Preferably reversible, hobbyking stocks one)
A 5gm servo (9gm recommended if you can make it fit)
Check out my thread for ideas :

I have taken this with my phone. Hope this helps. Please let me know if i need to provide the other side of the board as well.
ok post a pic of how the wheels are steered - that board you posted
will have to come out
And the component side layout (Opposit side of PCB) please.
Is it Rx2B, Tx2B based circuit ?
Nope. No RX 2B here. It houses a globtop ASIC.
I am so sorry bros... i am on a official tour for a week and had to start urgently. limited access to my computer. Once I return i will have the pics posted. Thanks again for all the valuable suggestions and bearing with me.
Hi folks...sorry to drag up and old topic, but can someone provide a better close-up of both sides of the circuit board? We have an unmodified maisto crawler that just stopped working. It doesn't respond to the remote at all. One of the resistors looked burned, so I replaced it, but still no luck. I want to compare what mine looks like to what it should look like lol.
Thanks!
I am planning to the same that this thread was started for. Any helping hands??
Satya you mean this Rock crawler. ;D ;D
We have broken our head enough on this. Firstly it has two drive units since its a 4x4. So You need two Brushed ESC reversible. Secondly it has a motorized steering inside the front drive Unit. Which has absolutely no space to mount servo. Yes of course you can remove the motorized sections and cut a hole on the outer casing to make a linkage with the steering tie rod to be operated with a servo fitted outside.
We were still contemplating the investment of two reversible ESC for this Mod. >:(
Since this is a four cell 5 Volts system you can definitely try to use the Circuit from a old broken Heavy duty Full size servo as a reversible ESC but you have to check the current consumption of the Motors and the servo circuit can take the load.
Not exactly that but something similar

Is it better to remove all electronics and add new? ESC, motors and steering mech?
