Hello from the USA.  My name is Mike Myers, and I've been visiting India quite often over the past 25 years or so as a volunteer and an eye hospital.  I've been involved in R/C car racing since the 1980's, and then started doing race reports and photos for several of the magazines.  I started up my own website, "Starting Grid" fifteen or so years ago - until then, it had been a paper magazine.

I met Ajo Joseph a few years back, and he introduced me to the RC scene near Chennai.  I took a few photos, but there wasn't much going on that day in way of racing.

I've started up a new internet Forum, which is has a large section for R/C car racing - www.sgrid.com.  This morning I created a new thread all about R/C Car Racing in India, and left a link to the RC India Forum.  Maybe we can get interested (and interesting) people from each country looking at the other's forum area.  I see that as a win/win situation.

SGRID is a free forum.  Just go to www.sgrid.com and register.  A direct link to the thread I just started is http://www.sgrid.com/forum/showthread.php?202-R-C-Car-Racing-in-India&p=1841#post1841.  It runs on vBulletin, so it's quite similar to the software here.  I'd like it if as many of you as possible could sign in over there and say hello - and better yet, say something about what's happening in way of r/c car racing in India.  If you have any good photos to post, please do so.  There are lots of other good places on the new forum, including a rapidly growing "history" section.

If you'd like, when you register, use the same login-name as you use here on RCIndia, so when people now using SGRID sign up on RCIndia, they'll recognize who they are talking with.

Anyone involved in every aspect of R/C is welcome - there is only a small section so far for R/C helicopters, and nothing yet on R/C planes.  The heli topic can be found in The Lounge.  If you don't see a thread on something you're interested in, please go ahead and post one.

I'll be talking to the editors of RC Car Action in the next week or so, once I get my travel plans set up for my next trip to India.  Maybe I can get them to print a story about "R/C Car Racing in India".

Mike is a very known figure in 1/4 racing and off course RC journalism. Nice to see you on rcindia. Look forward to see you again. Mike, please write a few words about your racing days. I am sure it will motivate us. Our discussions motivated me to turn into a racer rather than bashing.

I am yet to register on Sgrid, will be doing soon.

Hello, and thanks!!

Anwar, I had the name first.   :-)      I guess he's spamming me?.........   Naw.

I'll try to stay more involved here.  As to the tech articles about how to do better, I've got lots of them, and will be posting them either as "articles" or "blogs" on SGRID.  Feel free to read, leave comments, ask questions, whatever.  Many come from famous racers; quite a few were dictated to me. I try to post everything under the name of the person who first wrote them.

I was going to say I'd like some people to send me some photos of r/c racing in India, but I'd far prefer to have you guys do it directly, either by uploading or by linking.  In the USA, nobody thinks r/c cars exist in India.  Ajo showed me otherwise, but when I used to do searches for car racing, I never found anything.  I see that's all changed.

Hey, when you post things on SGRID, remember to tell people about this Forum, so more people from the US also start coming here.  I think I'm mostly "opening a gate" by doing all this.

I expect to be in India in late September.  I don't yet have a date.  I expect to stay until the end of February.  During that time, if there is a race I can come to and take photos and do a report, that would be great!  If so, I'll bring some suitable camera gear with me for racing.

Oh, and there are lots of articles starting to show up in the Photography section of sgrid.com which talk about how to get better photos of the cars.  Some of those are also posted as articles and blogs.  If you want, I can leave links to some of those, but they're not hard to find.

Thanks for letting me participate here!!

How about I send you some pictures that were taken at our track during a practice session?

Oh, I forgot to say something - if you sign up at SGRID, please go here http://www.sgrid.com/forum/showthread.php?203-Welcome-to-SGRID!!-...and-introductions!&p=1852#post1852  and say hello, where you're from, and a little bit about yourself!!

iamahuman, it's better if you just post your favorites under your name, but if that's a problem, send them to me and I'll post them for you.  Just create the account first, with the same login-name as you use here if you wish, and I'll do the rest.   Or, start up a new discussion thread such as "Practice Session at ________ on July _____, in _____, India" and post away!

(If you want people to really pay attention, never post more than 5 to 10 photos at a time, and pick only your best photos.  You can put names, places, etc., below the photos if you know the people.)
