Thunder Tiger Phoenix ST II owners,
please post the pics of your car and
tell about the performance facts
<top speed attained, stunts,max.jump hight>
with your stock car
Try if you can post a video as well
because that would be the best way to show your car
Please do spend some times and make a written review on this thing and post here
Divyam.....where are you??
Haha I have a BX 1! Quite different.. As far as I know, BX1 is the equivalent of the Team Associated RC10B3 and ST2 is the equivalent of RC10T4...
Either ways, I like the car.. Been running strong for a year with almost zero maintainance... Besides, I have not run any other car to compare it to!
Hardly done any stunts with the car, havn't jumped it too much and I havn't measured the top speed! ???
Well,I just saw phoenix and guessed it would be the same.
So I guess you have something like a buggy and the topic is about a truck.
both st ii(truggy) and bx II (buggy) are exactly same in case of motor and ESC, shocks, cvd,s servos, etc
everything is the same on both the cars except the shell(body), front tires
first one is BX, second is st ii
Topic Name changed!!!,
now BX II owners are also welcome
hey Divyam, whats your views about the performance and durability of this truck, i heard a couple of people giving negative feedbacks on the front shocks of this car(they leak a lot)
TOO TRUE!!
Had to get the shocks replaced 2 times!! They leak over and over again!
But that's part of any RC car to have 1 flaw or another..
So i guess the same prob exists with the st2?
this prob exists with even a BAJA 5b but the fact is that it is more persistant with the stii and bxii, you though can get over it by using your extra piston and replacing them, or buying an aluminum shocks will seal the problem forever
i have the tt phoenix st ii
have recently upgraded it to brushless motor and due to this all 3 gears in my transmission have worn out i.e all the teets have dissappeared
also there is a prob with the front shocks as they come out almost every time you dash..
i includes bronze gears.how did they weared out..?
when did u buy this truggy because probably the older one with the AM radio had plastic gears
what motor and esc are u using on it, also mention the place where you brought it from
no they have plastic gears
and if i can get bronze gears for it plz let me know the source
mine is 2 months old
and i dont know the motor and the esc but the car runs longer and faster now!
hai guys my gears for st2 are worn out almost all teeths are gone.. please help..where can i get new gear???
order online from towers, or try finding at rcskyhobby or modelart
Check modelart bangalore na,
Suraj, your car isnt designed to run brushless. Your diffs will go for a toss shortly.
Tower doesnt sell TT stuff, Try modelart or Rotor Chennai or Singapore.
I seriously suggest not to upgrade to metal spur gears. The spurs are plastic for a reason. Metal spurs will transfer all the force to the drive train and other componenets.
I see many people converting plastic spur gears to metal. Unless your drive train, transmission is metal, its a waste. For example Revo guys convert to metal spur and the transmission which is plastic takes the load.
You mesh your motor/engine right, no need to upgrade to metal. My Revo still has 90% of the spur material intact.
so what am i supposed to do?
cuz if i keep plastic gears then they are going to wear again and again

3 things, I can think of:
1. use plastic gears and keep changing them often
2. Use metal gears and keep maintaining the other components which are more expensive than the spur
3. What I would do. get a brushless ready car, like minimum, a TT sparrowhawk and use the existing combo on it.
i have a phoenix, lat month i bought associatedrc10t4 optional metal gear and got them on my phoenix, and they are going good, what ajo said might sound theoritically very sound but practically i haven't faced anything even close to it
i have contacted rcskynobby... if they have metal spur then i might go for that...
u emailed them?
@ajo-the 2nd step seems the best to me ....but what did u mean by other components that are more costly??
@sreedhar-plz let me know the price of the metal gears as even i may buy them
Yes i emailed them... Suraj I will let you know the price as soon as they respond..
call them up na, quicker
yes.. i will call.. I mailed them when i was at office... anyway i am waiting for there reply..
i dont think Mr. Manish will reply anytime before tomorrow, anyways i had just recieved mail from him about my order and i guess he is offline now
hey traxxrc1 what is ur order??
bodypins,body mount washers,aluminum castor blocks
Going to import a CEN CTR 5.0 tthat hits 150kmph (stock)
hey sreedhar its me Arpitsingh4063, i think you cant recognise me with the new name
Hai Arpit..
150kmph is cooll.. man.. that too stock.. wow... can u give me any link to this product...
ya sure, top speed is 90mph(145kmph~150kmph) for fully stock vehicle
http://www.gas-rc-cars.com/gas-radio-control-cars-cen-ctr.htm
That would be a sick car dude!!!!
just for 400$?Should end up at 600$ after shipping I guess. That is not too much for that power. If you're in the US,the best.
$400 was expected price for the car as thi is a post before release but its actual price is $430, around 35k in india
Still ain't too bad after 43,000 for an e revo. All the best and enjoy it.
sorry fr wrong info.
it will cost around 28k if everything goes good with customs
even cooler at 28K.
u got ur slash?
waiting.I might pay for it tomorrow.5 days from then max

will the st2 run on 2s lipos?
should work
Not sure if the ESC has a LVC
Hi. i own a ST 2 as well and the thing is pretty sturdy. did a few jumps and some mild off roading and even ran it thru water by mistake. no probs till now.
the front shock popped out once after the thing cartwheeled at top speed after hitting a pothole. abt 8 to 9 times. luckily nothing broke.
never got to check top speed. Oh btw yes it can take a 2S Lipo. But it does not have a built in LVC. u will need to get one.
got a small vid with some mild offroading. check it out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3H9QT_a2rs&feature=channel_video_title
More videos on the way. Got a new truck btw. A brushless E-Maxx. Review on that in a few days.
Thanks for the clarification
:)
Hai guys i have a prob vth my st2... My spur gears were worn out so i bought new ones from model art..i placed it in st2 but the motor and spur gear and a bit apart so they are not comming in contact.... Please help...
Use the paper strip method to set your gear mesh. You should be able to move the motor around with the loosening of the screws.
The ESC has lipo mode with a low voltage detector :
http://www.rctech.net/forum/electric-off-road/457140-my-rc-car-has-issue-help-anyone-2.html
Shouldn't be a problem then.Stay with 2s.Check voltages every 10 minutes or so.
no lipo cutoff

I contactd the guys at TTamerica, they told only Ripper ESC's have lipo cutoff.
Though i'v heard of some guys saying that even veloci does have a LVC, its too confusing.
I would rather get a 7cell Nimh and obtain the same perfo from it.
The veloci has a Lipo cut off.. It cuts of at 3.2V per cell... But we have to configure veloci to be used for lifo... Out of the box the veloci is configured for NIMH so it will drain the battery to the max, if we connect lipo to this config... U know whats gona happen... So change the battery config to lipo....
3.2 is kinda staying on the safe side. lipos do not get unsable until discharged below 2.9 volts... is that correct?
below 3 is risky, 3.3 is optimum IMO

How to configure, i had the same ESC which i sold on the forum recently cz i din knew i could use lipos with it
i stand corrected. sorry. just went through the manual for the ESC and it says there is a built in Lipo voltage cutoff. so i checked it.
in order to switch from Lipo to Nimh or vice versa. just switch on your transmitter and ESC. press the set button twice.
Nimh mode - the light blinks green 5 times rapidly.
Lipo mode - the light blinks red 5 times rapidly.
sorry for my earlier post. cant verify the cutoff as i still have the molex connector on the ESC and no molex Lipo's. need to get some Deans on there.
What if i get a BL eSC and motor and put a phoenix on a 3s...?
Will the gears still strip even on a good mesh???
it might work. but u might need to gear down. and maybe change the plastic spur.
as for the mesh i seem to be having problems with it on the phoenix as it keeps getting messed up every time it has a forward crash after a jump.
I would avoid 3s and bl on a phoenix. It was not made for this kind of power.
There are a lot of BL cars runnng on plastic spurs...i dont think thats gonna be a problem.
And BTW if we were to use a 3s, the torque of the motor can kill the car, not the speed.
Its always torque that breaks the things, so we would need to gear up a lil bit which will help prevent damage to outcups and CVD's

The plastic spur will tear to bits...

Its TT we are talking abt not traxx or any other brand... dont use bL on phoenix.... It will ride for sure but not for long.....
Buddy, Even sparrowhawk BL has a plastic spur. And its very fine, never stripped even 1 after learned to setup a good mesh.
BTW phoenix also comes as a BL stock right..?
Its Phoenix Xt. Then i guess it will be no probs to gwet a 2s on this thing with a BL system. Though 3S might overdo
be careful when you gear it up.It can have a bad effect very quickly. It would help to know which power system you will be using.
Some cheap HK system, it cant handle anything more than that.
I thought gearing low was more riskier, compared to high gearing.
Clarify buddy
At 7k its the cheapest RC availablle lacally. Would you guys, who have owned it say its worth it? or given a chance to go back to the past would you change your decission to buy one and rather save up for a brushless?
hi sir how to buy brushless motor in jalandhar :banghead:
please read through this.
http://www.rcindia.org/rc-outlets-and-resellers/mega-list-of-all-rc-outlets-in-india/
be more specific as well
Hey Gandhar while posting within 15 or so mins of a previous post you can use the "modify post" option on the top right side of the previous post :)
Also:
The Tower site says Transmitter (Ace Cougar PS3 3-Channel 2.4GHz Programmable Radio ) needs 4 AA cells
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LNAURR
While rcskyhobby site says transmitter needs 12 AA batteries:
http://www.rcskyhobby.com/products.php?prd_id=18&main_page=products
and on thunder tiger site it says tx needs 8 AA cells:
http://www.tiger.com.tw/product/8307.html
So which one is it?
It needs 8.. I'm sure of that..
ok i get it now. The one on Tower is PS3i radio so needs 4. The one on TT is PS3 so needs 8 and the one on RCSKYHOBBY is wrong :D
Divyam please reply to post number : 71 :)
Well, I would strongly suggest saving up and going for a better car..
Since I recently got a Slash 4x4, I now suggest Traxxas! I love how its truly RTR! Plus, as a beginner, anyone can put it on training mode till you feel comfortable.. Parts support really isn't a problem for TT or Traxxas.. Or even HPI
HPI is also a good brand.. You could look them up..
Give Jayanth a call.. He'll help you out!
Just my 2 Paise
Thanks. Will keep that in mind :)
Is there any differnence between using "training mode" in Traxxas and "dual rates" in other radios say a TTr or HPI ? Same thing right?
The difference is huge.
Dual rates are for servos and stuff.Don't remember the exact details.
The training mode on the other hand is a profile on the VXL ESC series.(dunno if its available on their brushed ESCs).What it basically does is limit the power to 50% forward and reverse and 100% brake power.
Yeah but if rates can be changes for the servo channel it can be for the throttle channel as well right? If the tx itself transmits 50% max throttle it doesnt make a difference which ESC is used. Asking this as i read elsewhere that any car can be used for learning if the dual rates are kept low. Now im confused :D
hmm........not exactly sure it can be done.I prefer the training mode. Its basically got the power of an equivalent sized brushed setup. So as far as I am concerned,I am actually driving a brushless which is putting out a power output of a brushed on demand.Took it to full power and I was :o :o

Dual rate is how faar your servos will move, like how far the steering turns.
What u r talkign of is Throttle ATV which is a better thing then trx training mode. Because this thing is ranging from 0-100 so u can adjust anything b/w 0 to full speed
I simply started on Sport mode, because I get to learn throttle control.. VERY important in racing.. But, that's because I can easily managed a brushed setup.. :D
I'm not too sure, but even the Traxxas radio comes with Throttle expo.. Gotta read more! :giggle:
it might surely, bu the throttle ATV was what rajat wanted to talk of
Yeah it was the throttle ATV. Didnt know what to call it. Is this present in most radios or is it a high-end feature?
Not sure, but i guess not all tx have this , but anything above average should have it
Does the Phoenix or sparrowhawk radio have this?
The PS3i radio has EPA on throttle channel. Will this be the same as ATV?
All TT radio have this feature, even the old FM radios had this.
And since ps3 has this so ps3i definitely might have it
Oh cool. Not bad for a cheap radio. None of the sites list the features properly.
@arpit: please reply to post 71 also :D
reply to post #71.
as a Phoenix owner, it is one of the cheapest RC's u can buy and as far as the truck goes its pretty sturdy.
it performs admirably on road and dirt roads. but lack of 4wd quickly shows its weaknesses. it gets stuck pretty easy on really rocky surfaces and tall grass and sand.
but its pretty tough. did some full throttle jumps abt 10-15 feet high and it survived all of them. including some very bad landings. did not break till now.
only problems i have faced are the gear mesh constantly keeps geting messed up and my next problem might have happened to me alone, but my Tx eats through batteries faster than my truck can drain its battery :( i run thru 2 sets of batteries for one charge of the truck battery. dunno why.
but i would recommend the truck for hard dirt roads as its pretty low to the ground and never tips over or anything.
bottomline - its fun for its price. but if u can get something like a sparrowhawk or a E-revo vxl go for it.
Thanks Ajit :)
Found this video of a brushless st2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq8Wd21TUC4
Search for Phoenix Xt ,its same as phoenix st2 except motor and esc
BTW i have a lot many vids of TTr's in my fav list on youtube.
