hello there,
my 1st post in this forum. Likely to discuss or rather to know about how to upgrade my motor in my rc car. I own Modelart Sandstorm and it has 380 T electric motor. I dnt knw about the 'T' letter; but it has something to do with the torque. I want to upgrade it to 540 T motor so my car runs fast. I got this thing abt 540 T motors from the other products from modelart. I really want to know about this more...thats why i have posted here to get suggestion and guidance from the experts here!

No its nothing about torque....
380 T stands for the type of motor, this one is generally for 1/16-1/18 scale models. Like that 540T is used in 1/10-1/12 electric Rc cars

Going for 540 type motor on Sandstorm, Umm! i'll think twice. I'm sure its parts may fall off on hard bashing especially when u can use 3s+ cells on that motor.
I've seen guys using the 540T in 1/16 models, so its possible but do consider the total cost n efficiency of ur upgrades

My suggestion, better consider a brushless 380 Type motor kit with a new 20-25A+ ESC n some Li-ion 2s, which should be good enough for 40-50kmph+
plus u might need to change spur n pions, shock, suspension to more stronger depending on the mods you chose. these link may interest u

whoa! thanks, yes this car is 1:16 and if i use 540 t brushless motor that u suggested in link; what changes should i make in the spur gear and pinion gears??(means should i change the diameter or what?)
and currently i am using 800mAh 7.4 V 15C battery. If I upgrade to 7.4v 1300mAh 25C Li-Po Battery; then would that help?  :help:

Thanks again!  :salute:

I do not own a modelart nodel, but have another 1/16 car myself
With higher powered motors you'll have to consider proper gearing, change in pinion n spur gears. Change of gears helps to achieve more top speed , acc., or controls in the most cost effective way.  I was still suggesting to go for 380T brushed/brushless kit, that's suits well for a 1/16-1/18. 540T will be extreme, but you'll find videos n websites explaing how to upgrade. It requires a little more effort. I am more inclined towards using 380T motor with 20-25Amp Esc with burst rate of upto 50-60 amp, clubbed with 7.4v 20-25C Li-ion

Thanks

okay so with the motor, i already have the 380T and the ESC is also 25A. So for now i just need to increase my battery from 800mAh 15C to 7.4V 1000/1200 mAh 25C. hope this would make some difference to the speed!
for using brushless 380T, i would prefer to gain some more thrills and experience from the brushed one.

thank you buddy!  :thanks:

The speed of a car depends on the motor's KV rating, gearing and battery voltage. The battery capacity what you define as 800mAh or 1000mAh will affect only the run times.

If you want it to go faster, tinker with the gearing, try knocking up the pinion a FEW teeth up, you won't be feeling any sort of instant boost in speed, but it's a good place to start for a beginner, far less expensive than buying a new motor.

A 540 motor probably wouldn't fit in the motor mount. My suggestion? Get a decent 370 brushless motor/ESC and run it on 2s Lipo. It'll be a big increase in speed from a brushed 380 motor. But, as others have said, parts are gonna wear out a lot faster, so be careful!
