Title: What Grease?
Post by: abhisheknakhwa on October 17, 2012, 05:34:05 PM
Hello!

What grease do you guys use in the gears of your rc cars?

I got some hardened steel gears for my rc crawler and it obviously needs lubing when i do the switch from stock. Regular grease wont do because a petroleum based grease will tend to dissolve and break plastic parts.
Whats recommended is a Lithium Soap based grease but i don't know any brand  names for it.

The LS grease is used where plastic or rubber parts are involved, like O rings and such. I am tempted to use my Motul chain lube; that works for O ring chains, but would still like an opinion on this.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers
Abhishek

Dry graphite grease should make for a good gear lubricant. You can also use dry silicone spray(mold release agent). In a crawler, you won't be spinning the gears at high RPMs and these should be fine.

for crawler search for water proof grease, might be hard to find here, it keeps the outdrives, gears, ball bearings.. no rust and super smooth.
