Gosh thats horrible. First of all i would like to point out that though the stuff is gone the knowledge never dies and is the most valuable thing you can have.
Why did he burn them up? Just curious.
Really sad to hear it :(

This is the worst that can happen to any modeller. I wish I could speak with your Dad and make him understand the scar that he has left on your psyche for a lifetime. I feel sorry for him.

Again the same story.
A scratch builder / hobbyist in this field will always gets appreciation from his friend's father not his own. Because a father doesn't want his son should waste time in this hobby rather than in education. I feel sorry for Akky.

Remember one thing.  This is a hobby, and is less important than your studies, the time you need to spend with your family when needed, your health etc.   It can be a passion, but you have to realize where and when the hobby fits in.  For parents, your FUTURE is the most important FACT.  If they see anything (not just RC) encroaching on this aspect, they will react violently.

I don't know what happened, just noting a general thing.

Shocked to hear about this Akshay. Do not despair though, I know what your parents think and to an extent they are right. You are in your 12th standard. Focus on studies, study hard, cut through the competition, and then the world will be yours.

I have gone through similar situations when I was your age too, so I can easily relate to what you feel and what your parents think.

The time you have now will never come back. Use it for wisely. Hobby can always be done later on.
Plus if you have an interest in electronics and aviation, give in your best to get into one of the best colleges and STUDY there.

The knowledge you get through the hobby is not organised and  in-depth, but what you study builds a foundation for all your life.

Cheers, and study hard !

hi akshay

i am in 11th standard now i can really understand what you are going through now

thats the reason i left the hobby while in class 10 for quite a few months then as my result was great i further pusued my hobby the parents are right though my parents do support me a lot in this hobby but when it was board exams they had asked me to leave the hobby for the time being and thats what i did

12th standard is critical as you shall enter your college then so you could just think that they are right (well burning them was not right) but still it was for good and think of it this way once you get a good job you shall appreciate your parents decision ever so much and then there would be no one to stop

so take care and again study hard

if time permits visit the forum some time

that was sad !!!

but if ur in 12th then i would suggest u to concentrate on ur studies!!!!

if u perform well then ur father wil himself help u in ur hobby!!!

but if u try to continue like this then there r chance that this may repeat!!!!

Except for few none of us have even bothered to ask what made Akky's father go furious?
let us put ourselves in his Father's shoe and then give it a thought, what might have prompted all this?
There are very obvious fact - Akky is in 12th, do I need to say more?
Has any one in India made a living out of aeromodelling alone? Even if they have how well off are they?
Put these two facts together and the prevaling cultural norms and you will have the answers probably what could have led to the incident

Akky I have gone through this phase, the rush of joy on initially starting to fly etc, but then do not get disheartened, do well in your studies and pave a way for a great future for yourself.

I would even suggest you make a deal with your dad, say he thinks you are not concentarting on your studies, and would not get good grades or not be able to compete for an entrance exam, now go ask him, if he would buy you all that was burnt if you got more than xyz grade or clear an entrance, and if he agrees, forget everything, study and acheive what you aimed for and you would have your stuff back.
That would also prove to your parents that not only can you study and do well but at the same time also indulge in your hobby

Hi Akki

All I would say that life does not end here.

You are lucky that you have whole life in front of you to make.   This is a very crucial age of making your career.  You have another 4-5 years of concentration on studies which will decide where you go in life.  Believe me, once you cross these years of hard struggle, life will be sweet.  Who knows, besides aeromodels, you might have have real jets standing in front of your house.  As mentioned above by one of my friend, knowledge will never die.

Time will never come back. Hobby will.   Therefore, spend time on studies as much as you can.  If you still want to continue your hobby at this time, do it, but with a strict control.

Once you make your career, you will find your hobby always close to you.

Wish you all the best for your career and desires in your life.

akky

its not that reason that i was not studying......i made my last plane in my vecations......from that time i had not done anything.....just the collection of things....the reason was something else....so i request everyone not to make their own assumptions

Just keep our PM's and this morning's discussion in mind and get on with life. These incidents, though very ugly, are an integral part of growing up. We do not know the full story, you do. You are the one who is facing the situation in real life. Remember, while the other forum members may have drawn generalised conclusions, they mean no harm - each and every one here is your well wisher. Just do what needs to be done. All the best!

I wonder if you can 'lock' this thread now? :headscratch: ???

Most people have confessed that they are not aware of the whole situation (including myself), and the advice is just general for any youngsters.

Glad to see that things are close to being back to the original situation :)

No need.  Everyone understands the issue is resolved.

And there is no particular reason NOT to lock this thread, except that we made a policy that we will avoid locking threads as much as possible (part of being a "free" forum) ;) We lock threads only in the For Sale / Wanted boards.
