I love watching Air Crash Investigation on National Geographic HD and I heard it's aired on NatGeo SD too. I thought I would share it with you guys too. ;D
The best part of the show is the dramatic reconstrucion of the whole scenario of the crash. NatGeo first reconstructs the whole scenario, right from boarding and take-off till the Crash instant. The reconstruction appears to be so genuine that you feel you are actually watching the video that was shot during the crash.  :hatsoff: to that.
The reconstruction is purely based upon Air Traffic Control transcripts, Flight Data Recorder (FDR), Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), eyewitness reports and victim's accounts

Nothing is fictitious or added just like a movie.

And the investigation... Even the actual course of investigation is reconstructed VERY dramatically. Powerful simulators are used for investigating a crash. The investigation and study is done by some of the most experienced people in the aviation industry, usually by personnel of NTSB (National transport Safety Board, USA). Every scietific prinicple used is cleary explained. Often, more than one cause are responsible for the crash. They are shown through animations. Every scietific prinicple used is cleary explained. The measures that were taken by the governments after the crash are stated, too.

My favourite episode is the crash of an AirCanada flight. There was a technical snag and the pilots HAD to land the plane somewhere and they had got VERY less time. They calculated and figured out that they cannot even make it to the nearest airstrip which is not it's destination.
Then, the pilot finds a stretch of a road, that appears to be an airstrip (in Winnipeg, Canada). They land the plane only to realise that the 'airstrip' had actually been converted into a road for car racing. There are some people on that road while landing, but fortunately, everyone makes it to safety. That was some 30yrs ago, and that very plane is still in service today.

Another good episode is the crash of a Southern Airlines flight (USA). Partially due to the pilot's mistake and partially due to bad weather, the plane develops a snag and they land it on a highway adjacent to a village New Hopetown in the US. This one is interesting, too.

I usually have the show recorded and watch it later
So see the show timings and other details here: http://natgeotv.com/in/air-crash-investigation/about
