Dont worry ;D India Post people treat ALL packages like this. Sellers generally pack your items with multiple layers of bubble wrap and hard paper, especially if the item is fragile. IF your seller took care in properly packaging your item, the I think it would stand the treatment meted out to it by our friendly India Post people ;D

I have never imported tablet, mobile like things (glass like etc). So no personal experience.

I generally import electronic parts and DIY kits not available in India. These are mostly non-fragile. So no worries :D

nairitb bro, 18+ days gone, no update since 27.10.2015 "Send item to customs (Inb)" is the message. What should I do?

@mangesh and nairitb, DJ Nshyap's post makes me nervous :o :o. I don't know why postal people throw the parcels like that. Every one want their items without any damage. what is the use of mishandling and damaging the parcels, they got salary for their service but they didn't do their duty honestly and sincerely. :( :( :( :(

nairitb

They got their salary but they are not ACCOUNTABLE to anyone.

Servos, motors do not cause any problems in customs. Only High end mobiles, RF equipment cause problems when mode is EMS or Air Parcel.

@Guy1234 you may have to wait ~ 1 month to receive the parcel. Kolkata Customs takes 4-30 days to clear packages. After that the package will be sent by RMS to MUMBAI and then to Mumbai Head Post Office and finally to your local Post office. No one can give you a definite time period.

One thing I like to tell everyone is IF YOU WANT PRIVACY, please refrain from posting Tracking Numbers on public forums.

Guy1234

Oh and i thought my package was in mumbai customs already :P

Thanks Nairitb :)

@Guy1234 you can track your parcel on india post site using RNet tracking once it is reached in india.  use ips web for global tracking http://ipsweb.ptcmysore.gov.in/ipswebtracking/
It will be delivered to you by local postman only after clearance

mangesh.khaire

Postal mode - Registered Airmail
They repack parcel very well with seal, No damage

RAJA090

is it marked as 'GIFT' or not. What is the declared value of the parcel mangesh?

mangesh.khaire

not marked as gift, declared value of parcel : USD 22

RAJA090

is there any way to get refund of custom duty mangesh , by showing invoice as proof of value of the article? what is the real value of your item and what type of item? is it electronic device like mobile, tablet, e-book reader etc....?

mangesh.khaire

nairitb

Heard for the first time duty is charged for Registered Airmail

SK1701

I've never been charged duty on registered airmail either. The only time I was charged was when I shipped by FedEx

RAJA090

@SK1701 and nairitb, I think it may be a registered airparcel. Because the datails of the movement of the package is similar to airparcel or EMS. But anyhow mangesh was an unlucky man. 3300+ duty on mobile phone is too much. It should be around 1200-1700.

nairitb

I have also been never charged duty on Airmail.

RAJA090

If mangesh give his tracking number we could come to conclusion but it is his own discretion and privacy. Anyhow mine is registered airmail. Lets see what going to happen in my case.
