It was noticed that literally anything under the sky was being flooded in the Chatter Zone... so here are some general thoughts / guidelines on the use of this board.

We have to always remember what our focus is, which is RC and model building.  Next comes topics related to these... like aeronautics, aviation, automotive  and other motion technologies, advances in materials, and a little bit of computer technology (as it allows forums like this to exist) etc.  Thirdly, there is the personal aspect, which is often found when people post their achievements, like passing exams, showcasing their singing or photography or painting.

But posting things that are outright "asking for trouble" or totally in "bad taste" should be avoided.  The first one is easy generally to identify ourselves, but the second one requires some asking yourself before you post.

Most importantly, remember that this is RC India, and RC forum... and not Facebook or Orkut.  This is also not a place to " again forward" those "interesting looking mails forwarded by friends".

The idea is not be uptight with many rules, but it is important that we do not lose focus on what this forum is about.

I felt it was a nice thread.A very genuine and innocent question IMO.And the discussion was a good one. :D

He is talking about the suggestion for a single thread named "Randomness"  in "Chatter Zone" for items of short news value / attention span.

Actually,we can make that split in the board.

Yes, thats what I am talking. I know (atleast) two other forums that have it. This will have tremendous impact,
1. The board will be much cleaner, you'll soon see nice topic in chatter zone that will be easy to browse.
2. Members will feel much more involved and connected. Discussion on random topics keep people connected. We were discussing about dreams and nervous system on our field last week :headscratch:. People come to the field even if they have nothing to fly that day. They come there just for the chatter ;D
3. Old posts on thread can be cleared/deleted later on, say once every year.

I meant we could make a split in 'Chatter Zone' and and name the new section 'Randomness'.

I am not sure if it will have a big impact, that is why I was still thinking about it.

1.  When you post in an existing thread (like Randomness) or start a new topic, the audience will pretty much see it and access it the same way. It helps the number of topics/threads in the board, but that itself serves little.

2.  The current "Chatter Zone" was built to serve the exact same purpose.  Just putting a new label on it, and grouping it all into one thread doesn't sound like achieving much.

3.  Again, we are not planning to delete any history.

Overall, I feel like a bit more careful use of Chatter Zone is all we need for now ?

Take for example the easystar thread on the foamies board, what would happen if that thread is closed. The complete board will be full of "i did this to my easystar"/ "I have this problem with my easystar". Also some posts are there only because there is a thread like that, like a post like "I landed my easystar inverted today" (just an example)
I am also not convinced with the idea but it works some how.

The difference is that it is all about EasyStar.  Plus, we have threads like "What RC activity did you do last week", which does such grouping.

But "Randomness" is so.. random !

I guess yeah, aeromodellars are a different breed altogether and when you find alike people around, human nature suggests that you like to talk and share much more than with a person who is not like you.

Flying and RC is the bond we share and it brings us to this board. Now when we are here, I think no harm in discussing about dreams or exams results because all these things are a part of our life apart from Flying and might not be using much bytes on the server to overburden that.

It’s a flying family, and we talk about flying all the time but in this family there are kids, youngsters, seasoned professionals learned and aged respected people and I am not surprised to see a post by a young guy falling in love and want share that with this family.

I agree with Anwar shabh that for other kind of talks we have facebook and Chirkut but these platforms are very weird  and there  no closely knit flying family there and no benevolent admin  :salute:

So I guess and suggest whenever a thread start becoming weird any of the learned family member may intervene to cut it short and I see this is as the best solution
(my personal view)

Anwar Bhai If u do not mind just change the cover line of chatter zone " Feel free to talk about anything and everything that is not covered in the other boards. This is RC India's lounge to sit back, relax and ponder aloud."
this will help to people think before posting any garbage to this forum.

anwar

I have added one more line to the board description.

And to be honest, there are very interesting things that show up from time to time, that does not fall into any of my classifications.  Certainly not illegal or disgusting stuff though.
