Can anyone please tell me that when I will receive my parcel ? What is CED Ahmedabad ? Can I call them now & ask the status of my parcel ? I heard if I call them they will collect more custom duty from me thats why I still didn't contacted them. Destination city is Ahmedabad.

buddyjam

hello xperiaz,

If your item is a mobile phone or some electronic gadget it will be held by customs ahmedbad. My mobile phone is held for more than 2 months now.
The Foriegn Post office and also the customs office will send you notice about this and ask for documents such as invoice ,credit card, transaction details. Even if you call them or not, things wont change.
Do update us about your status or if you receive notice.

I had been harassed by TNT couriers to pay Rs 5500 as commission for a parcel.
Dear Sir,
Said parcel is containing Lithium Battery which is considered as Dangerous Goods , hence Airlines dont us to carry such parcels in courier mode. It has to travel in Cargo mode for the safety reasons.
Once it lands in Cargo , IEC & Authority letter , KYC documents  is a must for custom clearance. However as this is on personal name , customs have given an option to custom clear it through special permission / one time IEC.
Our broker involved in doing this activity will charge his charges as INR 5500.

Apart from this , duty , warehousing , handling , taxes &  fine & penalties ( if levied by customs ) will be applicable.

Thanks & Regards

Hi buddyjam,

Thanks for reply But it is already cleared by Mumbai customs. Now why the parcel pass through Ahmedabad customs ? I never seen any parcel that pass through 2 customs office.

Normally after Return item from customs (Inb) & Send item to domestic location (Inb) status the item deliver in 2-3 days.

I don't know what are they doing ? Can you tell me how many days it will take them to send notice to me ? Can I contact them for fast resolution or just wait for the notice ?

Yes I will post update :)

buddyjam

It is android mobile phone & paid 217 USD for it. I just called FPO Ahmedabad & they asked me what is in the parcel ?
I told it is mobile phone so he told me that than I need to pay 42% custom duty & Rs.6000 penalty because mobile phone is restricted.

Let me know what to do now ?

gunnu

asupan

you may like to ask customs to send it back and you will get your money back if your supplier agree.

It will be a long drawn process and will take some time to get the money back.

Just surprised on how mobiles are restricted as we get all kinds of mobiles which are not manufactured here.

Thank you gunnu & asupan for reply.

I brought from Aliexpress & I will ask seller to accept the return now.

I don't know why Rs.6000 penalty. Didn't heard anywhere about penalty.

Hello xperiaz and friends,

I am writing again for your information as i have been through this customs hell.

Importing any electronic goods for personal use (including gift) above Rs.2000 (including cost+insurance+freight) VIA POST is restricted to import, vide notification 1056 (E) dated 31.12.1993 , google it and read in it number (i)-sub h .

Yes the same is allowed to import by courier. now the logic behind this stupid 20 years old notification is that, post is cheap and they wish ppl use courier for their personal import.

second thing , personal imports do not require IEC (import export code number), if the item is restricted a pre approval of DGFT is to be taken or if you have already imported it , the consignment is liable for detain or seize by customs and it attracts PENALTY as per customs SEC.111 and SEC.112 which states
penalty not exceeding the value of the goods or five thousand rupees, whichever is the greater.

So friends keep in mind while importing goods through post, Yes if the officer is a practical guy he may release goods without any duty or any such fuss considering the low value of goods and personal import. but such bast**** are extinct.

aman1256

Well Somebody has told truth is always bitter bloody customs what the hell do they want our life always taking out new rules.
Now For Every Courier service they are demanding KYC Docuements Its has been made compulsory from November 2014.
Regards,
Aman.

Hello guys,

I visited Ahmedabad FPO and the superintendent said rule is rule & he can't do anything about it & also he show rules in his big book.

According to the rule we can not import electronic goods (mobile, laptop etc...) using registered post but the same can be imported using courier. If we import it using registered post than penalty will be minimum Rs.6000 & maximum can be same as product value.

Also custom duty is 41% if we import it for personal use. If we have Import Export license than duty will be low.

So just want to tell you all that never import electronic goods via registered post. Use courier like Fedex,DHL,Bluedart....

I told them to return the parcel & they told me it will reach to sender in 2-3 Months.

I hope this information will be helpful to members of this forum.
