Please note the following which I would like to share from my experience;
Aramex will charge customs duty. When the item reaches your account you will get a mail from Mumbai asking for the Invoice and Payment proof. It is upto you to decide on the declared value and invoice and payment proof.
Note:
I am sharing what I thought useful for the members and I am noway connected to sp4mm3r or shopandship.

Can you explain the process ? like what happens exactly after the parcel reaches India ?

1. You register with Aramex with your India Address
2. Aramex gives you 7 Addresses. One address in new york as below for example
YOUR NAME
KWI XXXXXXX (This is your Member SHIP Number)
182-21 150th Avenue
Springfield Gardens, NY 11413 united states
Tel: 718-553-8740
3. Buy a product (for example in US) and give the above address as your shipping address.
4. Once, the parcel reaches the above address, the parcel information is updated on your account which will include the shipping weight, shipping charge etc. Meantime, Aramex Mumbai will send you an email and asks for Invoice and payment proof.
5. The parcel reaches Aramex, Mumbai and they will add the Customs duty based on the invoice and payment proof.
6. The item will be delivered to your India address and you need to pay the charges (Shipping+Customs) while delivery.

Be aware when USD to INR rate was around 63 Aramex charged Rs. 70 for conversion.

Informative. Just so that I can understand better.

Let's say I buy something from the US for US$10.00, it weighs 250grams. Approximately, how much will I have to pay Aramex in courier and duty charges? How long will it take to reach me in India? Can I buy 'anything' as long as it is legal?

Regards.

The country rates are listed in shopandship link below
https://www.shopandship.com/Ship/countries-rates.aspx

So, according to that list for weight of 250 gms (under first 1/2 KG) the shipping charge to India is 10 USD.

Now, item value is 20 USD for customs ( I am assuming the amount quoted by VC sir as 10 USD is including local shipping)
So, When the item reaches Aramex Mumbai, customs charge will be made for 20 USD. Duty % varies and is same as like other purchases from HK etc.

Now, regarding time
Shipping from your supplier to Aramex : depends
Aramex mostly ships on the next day of the receipt of the item
It travels from New york to Dubai to Mumbai which takes approx 3-4 days
and then to your destination.

List of Unacceptable Items
https://www.shopandship.com/service-updates/40004/list-of-unacceptable-items

I want to be transparent and to share the GAMES Aramex plays
1. If your parcel is around 450 gram, Aramex make it to 520 grams and charge you 18 USD
2. USD conversion to INR will be very high.
3. Aramex will ask for invoice and payment proof. So, if you are open and ready to pay the duty for the original value no problem.

Hope the above clarifies everyone.

Forum members don't worry about code from sp4mm3r. If you want to open an account, send email to shopandship and they will give you discount on membership. I opened it for 10$ instead of 45$.

Note : Corrected the membership fee. it is 45$ and not 40$

Hey, is it possible, that if we edit the invoice a bit and send it then we may be charged a bit less, i mean do they calculate their Custom Duties through the Invoice value ?
Born to FLY.

raja_mastana

Ya, you can ask seller to put an under-valued invoice. SnS will use that invoice to calculate duty.

I have used SnS few times and found it turns out expensive compared to the seller international shipping charge.
Customs charged was also on the higher side.
Plus since the address is local to the country, taxes also added. Taxes are not applicable if the seller ships to our address directly. Taxes, in countries like UK are very high.

It is only beneficial if the seller is not shipping internationally. You can use this method since you have a local address.

So, on a medium size package, if i put $ 15 as declared value and also in Invoice too, no matter the size and contents, i will be charged about between Rs.400-500 , right ?
And also, how much time do they take to activate account ?

This is a simple procedure, this is for items that do not ship to India,

CASE : for example if someone wants to buy a Plane and the seller claims that the cost to ship it within the continental US is free, but shipping to India is either not valid or is expensive.

CONCLUSION: Assuming you have a Shopandship account, you are by default provided with mail boxes in almost all major countries. what you do is, you order the above item in the US and you provide your US mailbox address.
Hence your shipping is automatically free. Now once the item reaches your US mailbox account you get a mail stating that the item has reached your US address.
The item mostly is dispatched to your country of Residence, (From where you opened your account) the next day. Meanwhile they start calculating the shipping cost, as rcparkjets said, for less then 1/2kgs its $10, take a look at my screen shot. (in my case the cost is calculated in Kuwaiti Dinars, as my country of residence is Kuwait)
So, once the item reaches your CoR, the custom duty charge is updated. Then once the item is at the India Aramex account, it is delivered to you and the payment has to be made either during delivery or online(As I have not ordered anything to my SnS India account I do not have much knowledge of how they operate there) but this is the procedure that I go through every time I place an order.

There may be a very different storyline for how they operate in India, hence you call their office and ask them the details.

I use shop ship in India and Kuwait. Procedure is same except one issue. That is, in Kuwait they calculate duty based on value or invoice in the shipment . In India they ask for payment proof everytime and I have to send them my PayPal or cc transaction detail and the invoice and transaction nneed to match. Also they charge duties even when the value is 10$ in India.

Ah Ok, that I was not aware of..
Another example is in the 2 screen shots.
1. Free shipping to the US
2. Shipping cost to India

So in the second case, I assume $54 to ship + customs duty + hassles and prayers..
