So I've ordered an RTF toy quad from China, and I asked them to do the usual (mark as gift, low item value, label as model/toy parts) to ensure it gets through customs. However, I'm worried that if the packaged is sent through an x ray, they will clearly see it is a drone and seize it.

What do you guys think/know?

Sagnik

Yes they do XRay scans of large pacakages.....this is why we never buy RTF.....DIY RTF is better.....anyway what quad did you buy??

Cycloned

Mould king from sp4mm3r. Cheap quad so I decided to take the risk.

Package is 30cm x 30cm x 7cm. Will it get caught?

Sagnik

Probably it won't get caught up.....but no promises though

Do not be surprised...... in my knowledge the customs are doing an excellent job and they are able to catch nearly every item on the banned list....... be rest assured one of the method would be X Ray..... and if still not sure they would officially open the package and check it out.

Sagnik

Yes....and from next time don't ever buy......assembled stuff......always go for the DIY......and order in fragments.....

Cycloned

Yeah, I have a DIY quad and Im building another, but I enjoy toy quads for night flying in my society at very high heights. Can't risk my expensive quads for that.

Sagnik

Ooo...best of luck dude....don't worry..... Dude....even if they do charge custom duties....it won't be much....

Thanks for the well wishes. Took the proper precautions like marked as gift, low item value and labelled it as toy parts. Packing is also done well so just have to wait and see.

Well.... Cycloned.... the precautions you have taken are the reasons why many vendors in the western world say "will not ship to India"... these things ultimately bring bade name to our people and country as the world understands us to be highly corrupt and ready to circumvent whatever rule we can.   Anyway... many of us here do this at Hobbyking also.....

Also say your earlier post of flying it high in your society........ well.... please refrain from doing such things especially at night.  Because if by some chance the control is lost or the model misbehaves..... someone will get hurt bad..... for safety of others just do not do it.....

This is an advice from a fellow aeromodeller who feels that we need to cherish our hobby in a safe and a sane manner so that it remains open to us.....  You may also like to read the dos and donts given by the FAA.... The portion in red background basically means do not fly in crowded places or places where people are closeby..... your actions must never result into scare, hurt or even injury to any unsuspecting person.

The reason Western vendors don't ship to India is because of the hell that is our customs. Why would any business want to ship to a country where packages are lost and take over a month to arrive, if they arrive at all? Not to mention the ridiculous duties that are imposed at random?

Also, we are highly corrupt and ready to circumvent whatever rule we can. The world understands us like this because it is the truth.

I assure you I take the proper precautions when flying. I fly only when the society garden is empty.

Well.... that you may call as proper precaution being taken.... well the security agencies may not think you.  Security has a lot different meaning when it comes to safety of people.... It may be inappropriate to fly in your society gardens as we all know these are quite small and the population density for the open space is quite large.  My advice ..... drive some distance out of the city and you will surely find a nice place to fly.  I and my friends do this on a regular basis.
Best wishes....

If you actually read what I posted, then you would understand that the population density is ZERO because I fly when the garden is EMPTY.

Also, I'm flying a 300 gram toy quad, not a 1.5kg 450 quad.

I'm sorry if this is inappropriate to ask here but did you get the parcel? Did u face any problems?
Please and thank you

Cycloned

I got it a month after ordering, no problems faced. The package did not have a tracking number so I don't know if it was retained by customs, but I assume not as it arrived duty free.
