First of all you need to discharge it to "0" volts

To achieve this, you will have to connect an auto bulb or something like that to the terminals of the battery.  Let the battery discharge till the bulb glows no more.  or check the voltage using lipo voltage checker if you have one handy.

Then simply stripe both the wire and hook them up together.  Put some electrical tape on it.

Now your battery is fully discharged.  You can throw it in dustbin.

Be very cautious while doing all this.

Put a nail through it, it'll smoke and catch fire, after the smoke stops it's completely dead

Do NOT put a nail through it! The simplest way is carefully cut the plastic cover and immerse in salt water

The salt water bath is the best method.
I personally use this method.

In salt water bath, salt means simple edible or iodized salt that we use in our homes.

Further, if salt is put into the water than in what is the  quantity. Further more , time period  we have put lipo in salt water

You can use any salt.
Or if you are good with electronics then just put a resistance on your connector.
DO NOT PUT A NAIL THROUGH IT. Its a lipo not jesus.

Put about 2 tablespoons in half a litre. Ordinary salt from the kitchen. Don't forget to strip off some of the plastic covering, so the salt can act on the insides. Just leave it immersed in the salt water, within 20-30 minutes you will observe the Lipo shrivelling up

This nail, shorting the terminals - extremely dangerous. On RCI there are many people who try to give advice, but one should be judicious in taking it! Too many experts here without any real knowledge. It's more an attitude of "I've always done it that way and it worked for me." Bigoted thinking closes one's mind; remember There Is Always A Better Way!

Sir,

Obviously you have whole lot of experience which can not be matched by anyone on this forum.

I would like to point out that, I said, "you need to bring the lipo down to 0 volts and then short the terminal to prevent any current build up" since I read it somewhere that people did salt water method and their battery terminals got oxidised before it could reach 0 volts.

I have tried bulb method and it did work for me.

Since you use salt water method it should be best.

With due respect!

Hey! I was referring generally to advice liberally given

BTW for Salt Water, first strip the plastic cover on the LiPo, bare the grey stuff inside. Nothing much to do with terminals

Thanks, I will do this.
I found the perfect appetite suppressant and I love it.

adding salt to water is for effectively discharging the lipo at low current levels ( since salt conducts)
it basically shorts out the +ve and -ve terminals
the water prevents any fire smoke etc...

since you said the battery is of no use means it is almost dead .... so risk is minimal whatever
you choose to do with it

i think what you meant ... is what to do with it physically ?

well in India ... just chuck it in the "kachra"

sanjayrai55

Salt water literally shrivels up the LiPo, making it safe to dispose. The important point is to strip the plastic cover
