so a few days ago i made my first quad....oh it was a beauty in the air.
i sold my mountain bike to make it . i was just really amazed by how they fly in many of the youtube videos and just had to make one.

i spent around 20 k to make it. and today....i really got a hang of how to fly it...
i was flying it confidently when i took it too high and lost orientation.... my heart skipped a few beats coz it was headed towards the highway and sugarcane fields....
i had not yet set failsafe coz i thought i would never need it.
long story short ive lost it in a huge sugarcane cropping area dotted with wells everywhere that can have permanently swallowed it...
i spent 3 hours looking for it ..
if youve been in a sugarcane field b4 with half pants and a tshirt... youll know how stupid that is...snakes, insects, leopards (yep) , and sugarcane grass cuts like sharp blades///  :-\
oh this hobby.....never stops teaching.!

hopefully i find it tomorrow....else ill make a new post in the for sale section..   :banghead:

Well, that does tell a story and a lesson

Imperial fire

It occurred to me later...that unlike an airplane...a quad can be reversed....I mean if it's not coming towards you just do the opposite with the pitch stick
The whole time I kept trying to use yaw to get it to face me  but it kept drifting further away
. Honestly ....my airplane flying is to blame. Xd

Yes.
Hope you get it back tomorrow.
Best of luck.

What FC were you using? was it a Dji or KK2?

My Friend too lost his mini quad in a sugarcane field and found it after one week, when the sugarcane was being cut down by the locals. Luckily he managed to find the owner of the field and explained him.

If possible find the owner of the sugarcane field and explain him.

It had a omnibus f4...without any GPS module..great f.c ....careless pilot...the least I should have done was set up. My failsafe....
Have spoken to farmers around ..they all offered to help.
In fact they have offered to help tomorrow.
Anyways lesson learnt.
Never act like a pro with a 2 days of flying exp....

A small tip which i read in such conditions... when you lose orientation of quad.

when quad is far you can only make out if its moving left or right.

so keep the Roll stick to right (or left) .. if you dont see the quad moving to right use Yaw stick in pulses till you see quad moving to right.

Once you align this then its easy to bring it back to you.

iayan

It's risky to fly quad's without setting up failsafe, boith in terms of damaging something around and loosing the quad, you don't want high speeding blades flying around :P . I assume you are not having RSSI telemetry? Else it will be easier to fly, Was it Flysky tx?

I wonder why it never occurred to me...
It's so obvious to my mind now that I've read it...
...
I was using a flysky...
I had my vtx and cam connected..I should have used my goggles as a source of vtx signal strength to zero it in around a area when it crashed....
I just panicked yesterday and could not orient it
Then I panicked again and could not find it...It's scary how fear hampers thinking....

rastsaurabh

To increase your fears ...... even with failsafe flyoffs happen.

PRANAVK09

Exactly the best way to avoid it is to get good tx.
One of my friend lost fpv quad worth 25k+.

iayan

Failsafe set on Tx and failsafe set on flight controller is best you can do apart from investing in a good solid link transmitter system like Futaba, Graupner or Frsky which have telemetry support.

Imperial fire

I think the flysky is a decent tx... (I could be wrong, the solders inside are not great...)
Anyways 3 days later and looking for it almost non stop I still haven't found it.
I've lost a needle in a haystack. A wonderful flying needle.

Imperial fire

hey guys so ive been looking for it nonstop...
no luck. there is just one sugarcane area( maybe 20sqmetre) that remains. however its too dense to see beyond 2 feet maybe, and too dangerous to attempt to do so coz i need to use my hand to make way and ive seen the creepiest kind of spiders in the last few days.

i cant think of a way to locate them .  how do i detect a magnetic field/? i am thinking of using a compass...ill poke it in everywhere..but how do i make it beep for changes in magnetic field? i am willing to make a device of sort...need a little direction.
thanks.
( i considered making a new cheaper quad--lekin dil nahi maanta)

A metal detector app in play store is worth a try !
Test it with a motor.

rastsaurabh

Are you sure it went in sugarcane field?

Don't restrict yourself to just one option .... usually misplaced things are found at unthinkable places.

Look around the field as well.

On Google try locating the coordinates of probable location then use those pins on phone to visit those spots physically.

Maybe you are not looking at the correct spot.

If the sugarcane field is dense enough then it might be stuck on top rather than on ground.

Metal detector as per me is useless, as you need to be close enough to detect and if you are that close than you can as well see it.

All the best friend. Hope you find it soon.

Imperial fire

FOUND IT
@ saurabh turn out i was slightly wrong about guessing its location
i found just when i had totally given up hope and had taken a break to look at the cheap motors i had added to cart on bangood.

anyways i found it in a different pomegranate field ..i had eliminated this area as not possible coz it was too far..

never came across any leopard or snake..did see a very large mongoose though.

my vtx has gone kaput . i think it overheated coz of lack of air movement.
everything else works great..
i am just so glad to have it back. i am no longer complaining about the slightly heavy motors..xd
here is a map .

red area is where i found it..the other circles represent where i was looking for it the most.( and wasted my time)
the lines represent my general direction assumption.

love it more than b4 now.never give up.!!
time to set failsafe and a buzzer !

Looking at the area you have found a needle in a football field...

congrats!!!

We share your happiness!

swapnilnimbalkar

Wow! Happy to hear that.

I would like to know about the battery,

1) was the battery unplugged due to crash? or
2) it was still connected.

If, case no 2 is positive then what was the voltage and how is the state of the battery?

Thanks.

Imperial fire

Hey..the battery was still connected. It was a little moist under the plastic.
I did not check the voltage on getting it .but my charger would not charge it coz of low voltage I suppose.
I used a clone charger that I think charges irrespective of voltage..it brought it back to life at 4+volts.
I think I just got lucky coz it was a tattu.
