Title: How (not?) to help others
Post by: K K Iyer on February 20, 2018, 11:18:14 PM
For the last several years, I've tried to help newbies by lending them stuff, so that they can make a start without too much investment. This includes tx/rx, engines, motors, props, ESCs etc. Expecting return in 1-2 months.

Sorry to say that of late such beneficiaries go off the forum, and no longer respond to phone calls, SMSs, Whatsapp msgs, emails.

Perhaps I should have sent return postage too.

I guess trying to help by sending stuff on a returnable basis, is a model that doesn't work...

Not very nice at all. But yes, it does happen.

I think some people do not value the Free stuff. Its better to charge them.

Two faces of a same coin. Finding genuine people is a tough job!  The least they could do is to keep up the commitment.

Perhaps you should make their names, phone number & address (if available) public, if someone stays close to that place they can visit such people and ask for the stuff.

Well, that's probably a much better idea. You can make them public, and for sure they'll return your stuff.

And consider taking a higher token fee, the next time you lend items. I know that makes it less effective, but you should be in a position to not lose your items.

Great title, by the way! ;D
