Still getting various errors, including the "Maintenance" screen.  I tried from servers in India, Qatar and the US.

BTW, you should kick the back-side of the hosting folks, a server upgrade should not take this long :)

It was DNS propagation.  Seems to work now from some locations, and others should follow through soon

RCIndia.org has been on a dedicated server from day one (there are few low volume sites on it, but nothing that causes much load, and the server is directly maintained by us).

And my experience is that it loads instantaneously, if your local internet connection is capable enough (like broadband instead of dial-up).  If others are feeling slow downs despite your local internet connection being fast, then please provide feedback via PM.  On the server side, it is almost as good as it can get, the rest is up to the client speeds.

i use bsnl broadband homeplan 750+
however i experience this site to be bit slower

It is a speed capped plan (256Kbps).

Plus, part of the response depends on which page you are loading (some pages have more elements). For example, our main page shows recent topics etc; which adds to both the page generation time, and the time required to download the page.

To do a meaningful comparison, try it on a page that has similar content (like a thread with same number of posts, all without images or with equal number of images).

Interesting. That is not at all what I see, so let us investigate together.

First of all, what is the home page of IRC that you are opening (exact URL please) ?

Here is an external comparison :

Load time comparison for the "forum main page"

The result I am getting is attached as an image.  Basically, we have more than double the data in the page, but still loads faster. The speed is about 4x faster.

Not sure how reliable this is.  What was posted earlier was the best result, as others show an even wider difference.

I was asking about what you consider the homepage of IRC (not RCIndia).

Peace Folks!! What kind of controversy is this ? A more busy site may at times take more time to load  :giggle: {:)}... now we are not 'real time critical' people! what the deal if the site takes a wile to load. On my Airtel 512kbps/1Mbps connection it takes a little over 1 second. I thinks its fine.. No one could afford server farm like Google/Youtube/MSN can opeerate from....

Whoaa.. who said there is a controversy :headscratch: :giggle:

Ankur just reported what he felt, and I am trying to make sure our user experience is the best that can be.  Plus, website performance was always a part of my interest and for some time, that was part of my profession.  So this is like debugging a technical/performance issue

@anwar-i just type indiarc.com in the address bar simply
@ujjwal-thats true, and that may be the reason for irc loading faster that day which is not applicable now
rc india always seems busy with about 10 users+guest always haaving a look at it.However don't think that should cause much  diiference

Just like I suspected, that is not a true comparison, as it is just a static page for the most part, and not really the main page of the forum.  You should look at the links in the iwebtool.com comparison I posted earlier, for an apples-to-apples comparison.

In my opinion, the IRC forum is still down.
Looks like the webserver is not correctly configured to execute PHP scripts. Rather than executing it, its downloading the PHP file.

So the website is still down. The hosting co is really bad, taking so much of time. In such a time there would be millions of lost business.

Looks like they messed up on the nameserver change.  Even after the new server came up (as late as yesterday), the domain registration records were pointing to nameservers of the old setup.

The "inability to execute PHP scripts" happens when you hit the old server/IP. It does seem to work when you hit the new server/IP.  Whether you hit the new one or old one depends on multiple things like DNS propagation delays and local caching in your PC/browser.

The least they should have done is to put a static page on the old server, and move/remove the rest of the contents.
