Darling Lily
The Great Waldo Pepper
1. Stealth (Mostly CGI, but still)
2. Behind Enemy Lines ( the thrilling SAM-bogey chase)
nice idea for a thread Vikalp11 - as I try and catch most plane related movies! But VC has covered most of them.
Slight edit to Gaurav's title - its "Those magnificent Men in their Flying Machines" (one of my all time favorites too!)
Another old one "The Flight of the Phoenix" (has an aeromodelling reference)
Thanks king,
I guess I have seen that movie (the flight of the Phoenix) 5-6 years ago! It was telecasted on Star Movies.
Battle of Britain
Dark Blue world
Spirit of St. Louis
Amelia
Look closer
Govind Nihlani's Vijeta, my all time favourite, reason, flew Kiran in my training days, went to same squadron as in vijeta , had fire on take off and jumped out exactly like that. More than anything, it was a real movie not some Hollywood mumbo jumbo
I wonder you all missed 'Con Air'.
Spirit of Saint Louis
Airport 79
Dark Blue World a Czech with eng subtitles
Memphis Belle movie on flying fortress
Hell's Angels 1930
Executive Decision
Wings (1927)
We were soldiers ( the heli flying part)
Ha..ha... here comes Gusty Sir's list. Great... {:)}
Some more that I missed out - Broken Arrow, The Devils Alternative, Blue Thunder.
Augustinev - wow thats something! :hatsoff: - what aircraft are they - mig 21 or gnats? Also how did they fly compared to todays modern fighters?
Was just thinking of Vijeta and sure enough they are showing it for the next 3 days on good old DD! Catch it for those who haven't seen it.
skyfighters - cool aerial sequences with mirage 2000
faith hope and charity
There are multiple movies in the "Airport" series, including one involving a Concorde.
One more... "Flight of the Phoenix".
How could I forget "Where Eagles Dare"?
Though factually incorrect, it showed a Bell Model 47 Helicopter (The Goldfish Bowl) as a German helicopter used during WW2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOFzswp9LEs
The Model 47, much loved by our own Bollywood film makers of the seventies, had it's first flight on 8th. Dec. 1945, much after WW 2 ended.

Thanks, Migs, I am still on them, the best aeroplane ever made
For the reason saikat posted,Mission Udaan
Hey augustinev, are you a fighter pilot?!!
which fighter a/cs have you flown?
:giggle: :giggle: :giggle:
made a mistake???
Flatspin_King, you can't compare apples with pineapples.
The MiG21 and the Hawker Siddley Gnat just don't measure up on the same platform. Each had/has it's own intrinsic flight characteristics. The Gnat earned a sobriquet of "The Sabre Killer" in '71, primarily because it could turn inside the F - 86.
However, let Gusty fill you in on the finer details............................
Vikalp, my dear, Wing Commander Augustine is a veteran fighter pilot who has headed MOFTU (MiG Operational Flying Training Unit) and has just relinquished the post of Commanding Officer of OCU (Operational Conversion Unit) Kalaikunda Air Base.
Not only that, he has seen service during Operation Vijay (Kargil)
He is not just a Fighter Pilot, he is THE Fighter Pilot!!!
Gusty. correct me if I got the technicalities lopsided.

Govind Nihlani's Vijeta, my all time favourite ...
Yes Augustine Sir, Vijeta is one of my favorite, and also Border, made on a real war theater instance. And who can forget Grave yard of Tanks created by Brave gallant Pilots of IAF.
Another one of my favorite is "Behind Enemy lines" mentioned by Ujjwaana above.

Oh boy....such a great person betwenn us!!
SALUTE SIR
Gnat was a subsonic fighter with a limited ROA. for it's time it was good, mig could go higher faster had missiles , gnat didn't have missiles
Firefox (1982)-A pilot is sent into the Soviet Union on a mission to steal a prototype jet fighter that can be partially controlled by a neuralink
Gusty please explain ROA.
Radius of action, ROA, name says it all
The Right Stuff (partially on space program but depict early supersonic aviation)
October Sky (its on DIY rockets but still holds good for aircraft genrie)
Stealth (aircraft design that i idolize)
October Sky is one of my favorites
VC - not comparing gnats and mig 21's at all. I just vaguely remembered that they were more or less from the same era - although the mig was clearly superior. Both were used in the 1965 war, although according to wikipedia the migs were inducted in IAF 1964 and due to limited numbers and limited pilot training did not play a dominant role 1965. But were very effective in 71. Hadnt seen Vijeta in a while so couldnt remember what they were flying ...
Btw its not a movie but I try not to miss "Aircrash Investigation" on Nat-geo
+1 Flatspin!
"Vijeta" and "The Rescue" is my heart touching movie in which professionalism covers personal feelings and devotion for family is main. Some may say that less acting during propose to supriya pathak, but I must say "excluding over reacting of filmy and full of reality."
Of course "The rescue" have very little (last) part of flying a large plane by a non-pilot and may be with some facinating part of pyrotechnology, but I prefer when the lad opens his coat to show his national flag on tea-shirt to introduce them-self so that fighters not hurt them.
bumped an old thread..... just for a new comming up but in 2013... should be awesome... :salute:

Looks like a sequel to Tuskegee Airmen. Same actors too. Can't wait for it to be released.

Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Actors- Tom Hanks (My favorite), Matt Damon ,Vin Diesel and Tom Sizemore.
Also based on World War II. Not based on aircrafts but includes a great scene of P51 Mustang bombing the German tank at the end.
Great Movie. Must watch if you like War/History based movies.
Has 8.5/10 rating on IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120815/).

Downloaded a few more:
Red Tails ( More like Tuskegee Airmen - Part 2 - predictable plot but Great CG / flying sequences, Dark Blue World (Highly recommended - IMHO at par with Battle of Britain), The Bomber (A French movie) and Hells Angels ( The original 1930 Classic produced by Howard Hughes).
For the hard hearted - I recommend that you do a torrent search for Idi i Smotri (Come and See - a Russian 1985 film) But then that is only if you are a die hard researcher/collector of WW2 films. Not recommended for the casual collector looking for 'Bang Bang and Glory' films.
VC
Thanks for Dark blue world, +1 to highly reccommended
No one mentioned "The Blue Max" A true classic, but I guess under 50's would not have heard of it :)
Oops, sorry. VC has! Praises to the BW watchers
U missed one
Beyond Enemy Lines
The Dam Busters.
Fascinating info on the ultra simple technique used to fly at a very specific height at the time of bomb release.
This height was extremely critical for the bombs to be effective
Can elaborate if anyone is really interested.
Yes, great B/W movie, The Dam Busters. Who was the designer? Some Wallis something?
http://www.businessinsider.com/david-cenciotti-top-gun-maverick-51-today-aviation-experience-2013-7
Blue Max and Aces High for WWI. Tora Tora Tora and Battle of Britain for WWII.
Wings Over Everest, the Academy Award winning documentary.
Then there's the French comedy Le Grand Vadrouille about RAF bomber pilots show down in France WWII.
TV show I remember fondly Tales of The Golden Monkey which featured a Grumman Widgeon, if I remember correctly.
Speaking of MiGs, don't remember the model but small film about Iranian pilot who defects with his MiG to Israel, true story. I met Victor Belenko at an airshow aeons ago when he was peddling Bedes as well as his autobiography. Would have been a nice MiG-25 centric film.
Flight of the phoenix. A movie not only based on a aircraft but also RC modellers.
A modeller actually redesigns a crashed plane and get it back to the airport ;D
anyone has an idea when in disney's planes going to come to India..?? its launched on 6th august worldwide haven't seen any thing about it being launched in india..

Why?
I will pat your back if you give the right answer ;D
The word aircraft has no plural?
i agree with iamhuman sir :),
"Aircraft" is a collective word, like "sheep" and "deer", and so it is both singular and plural. Words such as "aeroplane" and "jetliner" are singular and so the plural form involves the addition of the "s".
nope... it is a representative of both forms ie: I have AN aircraft and I have MANY aircraft.
it isn't I have many AIRCRAFTS... :P

For all and sundry,
The word 'aircraft' is used with the same plural form as singular. Meaning plural for aircraft is aircraft not aircrafts
Just watched-
Les chevaliers du ciel (2005)
French
Sky fighters.
;D
Reach for the Sky
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049665/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049665/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1)
Looking forward to this one.

@anwar sir,
Can we correct the heading please.
There's nothing called aircrafts.
The plural of aircraft is AIRCRAFT. No S.
Even Gusty has clarified this. Once recently and once long ago.
I realise that i'm a nit picker, raising issues on things that probably no one cares about.
But on this forum, maybe my inputs have helped
In changing the form of addressing others from 'Hey' to 'Sir'
Even though hardly anyone adds 'regards' at the end...

Great thread
looking forward to 'sully'

There is one aspect that, i am sure would be missing in the movie.
post recession, some of the pilots, sully inclusive had to donate blood to make ends meet. not a lot of people who are aware of this fact. Of course it is out there on the web, if one looks close enough
